[Bug 40872] Re: Desktop icons are allowed to overlap horribly

2009-06-11 Thread Wladston Viana
for me this is as simple as

1. place the draged icon where it was dropped
2. if there is already one or more icons that ocupy the space that will be
required by the dragged icon, make space on the surrounding of the final
dragged file (moving all the icons on the area if required) to acomodate the
overlaping icons on the surrounding of the dragged icon.

done!

[Bug 231816] [NEW] heisenbug : Totem randonly does a full system freeze

2008-05-18 Thread Wladston Viana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 from a Toshiba R20 tablet pc.

Sometimes, when opening a video or music, totem will play it for about 2
seconds, and then the system will come to a full freeze. No keyboard
shortcut works, the only way to make it reboot is to hold the power
button. The mouse will still move, thought.

It's not related to a particular music/movie, it happens in a real
random fashion.

Please, help me debug it. Nothing new gets litsted on /var/crash.

I don't agree with Sebastien's position.

If it were like that, the Empty trash button would not work, because it could
also lead user do delete datas.

The thing is - if the button is labeled DELETE - it should do what it
says. At least, the text of the button could bt changed to Remove from
the list, if you guys decide you won't let the user delete the images
from the walpaper panel.

Please, take a look at my ideas, and give me a reply.

[Bug 139806] Re: Rhythmbox should allow you to sync part of the library with an SD card

2007-10-04 Thread Wladston Viana
Pedro,

Ok, I'll try to make my point. Try to imagine the situation :

John is a music listener. He is constantly getting new music, while
purging the ones he dislike, and also hearing some music from his
library that he enjoys. He notices that he could listen music while on
commute, and then buys a portable music player. So, he copies some of
his music by hand to the device, and goes on listening to it.

About a month or two after it, John has downloaded new music, deleted
some more, and also would like to copy different music from his library,
he is tired of the ones he has been listening for over a month. So he
does all that by hand - he finds the music he deleted on his pc, and
deletes it on his music player - he finds his new music - and then
copies it to the device - and finally delete some of his archive
music, and gathers some other ones from the archive to replace them.

In order to keep his portable music player with new and fresh music,
John has to do this EVERY so and so, and by hand. John could be helped
by a computer system that lets him synchronize his library to his
portable music player, that can follow advanced definitions such as :

1. Delete all the musics that were deleted on the local library
2. Copy [all] the musics that are [1 month] old on the library to the device
3. Copy a random selection of musics from the library to the device, and
limiting disk usage to [90%]

Since John can set the commands, he has lots of flexibility, and always
has updated, new, and fresh music to listen to, and he doesn't have to
worry about manually handling with files - Ubuntu's Rythmbox does it all
every time he plugs in the device and press Sync.

Another idea is, when the user tries to write to protected folders, it
says something like :

This(these) is(are) system folder(s or files), and it(they) has(have)
been protected to ensure that your computer will operate safely. Do you
wish to write to this folder anyways ?

[Cancel]
[Yes (field for administration password)]

Another option would be do you wish to temporarily disable this protection ?

[Bug 12893] Re: Shouldn't put .Trash-$USER on removable devices

2007-08-03 Thread Wladston Viana
Joel,

That is true. But when the disk is full because of the trash, and the
user wants to put something on it, looks like Windows Vista
automatically empties or transfer the trash, so the user don't notice
that the trash was there taking some space.

In Ubuntu, it will only say that the drive is full, even if there is
nothing in it but trash (that is not visible to the average user). So
it's really weird, the drive appears as clean, but there is no space on
it. This is the real bug on the way Ubuntu manages trash, imo.

accessible, but are only writable by authenticated users.

On a windows box, it shows a prompt asking for the password - if it is
provided, the access is authenticated. If it isn't provided, it falls to
the guest access.

But, on a Ubuntu box, using nautilus to browse to network, it doesn't
ask for the password, and there are no options on Gnome GUI to set the
user/password to use when connecting to the share. The only way to
access the shares with the proper permission is editing the /etc/fstab
file, as said on the guide :

[Bug 104960] Re: [apport] gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-04-09 Thread Wladston Viana
Sebastien,

It was a completely random issue I guess, happened when I was doing
ordinary things. I'm trying to make the same thing I was doing but I
can't get the bug anymore!

If the bug needs more info to go on, I'm afraid you might better close
it, since I can't reproduce it

[Bug 18780] Re: Browser: tree view rendering problem

2007-04-09 Thread Wladston Viana
Sebastian,

I have read the discussion.

I think this issue DO matter. It's not that it can be confusing - it
just could be made better and more good looking

Why not simply don't render the little triangle on the folders that
doesn't contain any subfolder ?

It's more natural, and the user doesn't need to click the arrow to find
out that a folder has no subfolders - just the lack of the triangle
would tell it.

If the objective is to signal to the user that the folder is empty, one
could just write next to it (empty folder) in italics, or place a
special open-and-empty folder.

Please, tell me what you think.

[Bug 60336] Can't set special key to run a terminal function

2006-10-11 Thread Wladston Viana
Public bug reported:

System-preferences-keyboard shortcut

This application fails to assing the run a terminal command for any
special key on my keyboard.

Steps to reproduze :

1. Set the run a terminal for a special key. In this case, I'm using the 0xe8
key.
2. Set the others special keys (0xe6, 0xe5, 0xec 0xb2 0xe7, etc...)
3. Note that pressing the 0xe8 key does nothing, while the other keys work

I've also done this, to ensure the bug is really a bug:
1. assing 0xe8 key to another function
2. assing another key, that was working, to the run a terminal function
3. now, the 0xe8 works, while the other key assigned to run a terminal does
nothing.

I've also tried to assing a shotcut like alt+t to launch the terminal,
and it worked.

dmesg says nothing related to keyboard.

[Bug 64617] Crash when seeking/playing .mpg file + seeking

2006-10-07 Thread Wladston Viana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

When I open an .mpg file of about 80MB, play it, and start to
intensively use the seeking features, Totem exits silently.

I'm using Ubuntu dapper 6.06

[Bug 63861] Re: Font doesn't install properly.

2006-10-07 Thread Wladston Viana
I had already installed all the fonts manually. I've removed one of
them, and ran sudo fc-cache, and the font disappeared from the system.

Them, I've tried to drag and drop it to the fonts:/// folders. After I
drop the font there, nothing happens. I've refreshed the fonts:///
folder(F5), but the font is not there.

I even closed nautilus and opened it again, but no luck.

I would post the font here, (Candara.ttf), but it's copyrighted... :(
I'm having this issue with some of the new Microsoft fonts (the ones
I've tried to install)

I'm using Ubuntu dapper 6.06

[Bug 63861] Font doesn't install properly.

2006-10-04 Thread Wladston Viana
Public bug reported:

Installation of the Consolas font (truetype font), the font does not
work properly.

I could not install the font via drag-and-drop to fonts:///, had to
paste it on the /usr/share/fonts/truetype. Even thought, It did not
render correctly (I got overlapping characters).

For It to work, I had to place on the ~/.fonts directory.

I'm sure this is not a problem of the font, as it works on windows and
previews nicely when you double click it.

2006-09-29 Thread Wladston Viana
After aplying the changes required, the tool now works correctly, tested
with my two pendrives, and it now works with both of them.

Probably someone have already fixed it

[Bug 12893] Re: Shouldn't put .Trash-$USER on removable devices

2006-09-29 Thread Wladston Viana
I confirm this bug here. Something that shall really be looked.

One thought : to make the system delete (or copy to another trash
folder) the oldest files of .trash-username folder, as more free space
is requested by the user.
