[Bug 1758314] [NEW] Open new windows in the middle of the screen
Public bug reported: When opening a new new window in gnome-shell it comes up in the top left corner. This is not desireable since it creates a lot of "black" there in dark themes and it has some pixels of a bright background theme shining through due to window headerbar being rounded. Gnome solved the "pixels shining through thing" upstream by having that corner rounded in a gnome-session. But this is not feasible in the Ubuntu session because the Ubuntu dock is there and the corner cannot be rounded. Having new windows come up in the middle of the screen would be more pleasing visually: It doesn't look crammed (dark headerbar + dark top bar) by default and the background pixels shine only "through" if you choose to drag the window to that corner. [Bug 1754169] Re: [Bionic] [wayland] Nautilus crashes when a file is opened
Even opening archives with File Roller makes Nautilus 3.26.2 crash. So it cannot be a gedit problem. I edited the title to reflect that. So all gnome apps make Nautilus crash (in fact opening the file makes Nautilus and the other program crash) while LibreOffice obviously doensn't. What makes opening a file with LibreOffice different. I wonder if reverting to 3.26.0 would be a good idea? It potentially resolves the problem and the stable branch doesn't add anything too interesting to Nautilus 3.26. If the problem persists another package update probably causes the problem. [Bug 1740743] [NEW] Hide Imagemagick's Display app from GNOME software
Public bug reported: In bug #1717951 Imagemagick was already removed from being displayed in GNOME-Shell. It is still listed in GNOME-Software which causes some (potential) usability issues: Users can still test the "imagemagick" app from within Ubuntu Software and decide to remove it from there. Because that app looks dated, ugly and out of place in a modern desktop environment. Removing Imagemagick has the bad side-effect of removing printing support while user won't even realize that Imagemagick was printing related at all. Thus I propose to remove the app from being listed as installed in Ubuntu Software at all. Or to be moved to the "System Apps" section to prevent users from removing it manually (and unvoluntarily CUPS with it). ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740743 Title: Hide Imagemagick's Display app from GNOME software To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1740743/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 684800] [NEW] gdm bar is on the bottom, not on the top
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm With the default Unity desktop for Ubuntu 11.4 there will only be one system bar which is placed on the top of the screen. The bar on the bottom will vanish (and remain available just for the users of the Classic Gnome interface). The GDM bar (with the list of the different sessions and the shutdown button) should therefore be moved to the top of the screen to offer a coherent boot experience. And it should be turned into a black bar to match the Unity one. Again for the sake of coherence between the standard desktop look and the standard GDM look. The same samples in ogg format. Those should play flawlessly gapless on Audacious and all Gstreamer players already. Just for comparison with the broken gstreamer plugins. [Bug 290150] Re: does not support lame mp3 gapless tag
Since all GStreamer based applications seem affected this is rather a problem of the current GStreamer decoder plugins and/or within the GStreamer pipeline. In the repos the following packages offer Gstreamer decoding support *Both fluendo MP3 packages (why are there two of them?) *gstreamer0.10-plugins ugly *gstreamer-ffmpeg The fluendo plugins seem to be based on the frauenhoffer reference implementation of MP3, the other plugins seem to be compiled against the libmad library. None decoder is compiled against the mpg123 decoder which proves within the mpg123 command line tool that it is actually able to handle the LAME info tag correctly. Links: *http://www.mpg123.de/ *http://gst.homeunix.net/?by-user=t An attempt by Stefan Kost to get the mpg123 decoder into gstreamer obviously came to nothing in March 2009: http://gstreamer- devel.966125.n4.nabble.com/mpg123-GStreamer-plugin-td971440.html Probably forgotten since there was no further communication. -- does not support lame mp3 gapless tag https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290150 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

http://noraisin.net/~jan/diary/?p=90 Maybe some of Jan Schmitdt's recent fixes to Totem, gst-plugins-base and gst-plugins-bad could be backported. They fix multiangle support and playback in playbin2 and ABOVE all would hook up the DVD menu items in the totem UI. It is good to see at least some movement here. This would be great, if it could be included for Gutsy. Since it just adds a protocol, regressions don't seem to be probable.
