That's unfortunate that this terminal uses F1 key binding for function
that its less advanced users will invoke from appropriate menu anyway.

[Bug 1486695] [NEW] copy dialog gone ninja

2015-08-19 Thread anatoly techtonik
Public bug reported:

This is almost the same as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1399077 - during
long copy I closed all other nautilus windows, except the copy dialog.
Now I can't switch back to it. Icon shows that there is some progress,
alt-tab shows an icon, but alt-tabbing doesn't work. Clicking on panel
just bring up nautilus with Home folder, Show Copy Dialog does nothing.

wmctrl does nothing.

$ wmctrl -l

0x026a 0 PCO Desktop
...
$ wmctrl -R File Operations -v

There were several mistakes during copy, so my bet is that the progress

[Bug 1413283] [NEW] Set as default is absent from Open with.. context menu

2015-01-21 Thread anatoly techtonik
Public bug reported:

Question http://askubuntu.com/questions/90214/how-to-set-default-program
gets 35k+ views. I suspect much of it is because there is no intuitive
way to set a file association. See the comment under accepted answer:

Right-click - open with - other application DOES NOT show Set as
default...
Right-click - Properties - Open With DOES show Set as default

I was looking for Set as default in Open with.. menu myself .

[Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2013-01-24 Thread anatoly techtonik
Just my 0.02 cents. Why not to introduce transaction concept for key
presses?

1. Transaction is finished when the last key is released
2. The returned result from the transaction is the sequence of keys pressed

This should solve all [Alt, Shift] problems.

Example:
  user presses Alt key
user presses Shift key and releases it
  user presses Shift key
  user releases Alt key
  user releases Shift key

The returned sequence is [Alt, Shift, Shift]

[Bug 704821] [NEW] launchers don't expand environment variables

2011-01-19 Thread anatoly techtonik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I had quite a bad user experience today. I've tried to create a simple
launcher for Chromium with a command line that included $HOME
environment variable [1] and it was not expanded. To my surprise I've
found the '$HOME' directory instead spelled with the $ inside.

Now I have to use bash -c command $HOME command line, but it is not
consistent with how would you _as a user_ expect the launcher to behave.

As a side note I'd also like to see the flag in launcher properties for
executing program in terminal to control console messages.

[Bug 275340] Re: Remote Desktop - only accept from localhost option does not work

2009-08-30 Thread anatoly techtonik
Without an option to listen to localhost only it is impossible to
securely connect to vino server through SSH tunnel. I would say Ubuntu
is insecure with such kind of default client. It usually a matter of
hours before you get scanned by some roaming droid that will try to
break the pass next try. I do not know what is the normal rate of
password probing for vino, but there are always ways to sniff you
traffic, so I would raise the status to rather critical security issue.

[Bug 397734] Re: can't eject unmounted cdrom with hardware button

Pretty much reproducible. Nothing specific is required - just insert the
disk, unmount it from computer location and push eject button to see
that nothing happens. Additional annoyance is that unmount requires
authorization. Anything else I can turn on to debug this misbehaviour?

[Bug 397734] [NEW] can't eject unmounted cdrom with hardware button

2009-07-10 Thread anatoly techtonik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When logged in I can't use hardware eject button to eject CD tray if
there is a disk in drive. It doesn't work even if I unmount. With empty
cdrom or from login screen hardware eject button works as expected.

After unmount lsof shows that /dev/sr0 is still being opened by
nautilus.

$ lsof /dev/cdrom
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
nautilus 3479 techtonik 26w BLK 11,0 0t0 2464 /dev/sr0

2009-07-08 Thread anatoly techtonik

Nautilus doesn't display long filenames for mounted cdrom. ISO image
made from this CD that mounted with archive mounter shows long filenames
correctly.

[Bug 382618] [NEW] Can't extract files from iso mounted with archive mounter

2009-06-01 Thread anatoly techtonik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

It is impossible to read md5sum.txt from ubuntu-9.04-dvd-i386.iso when
mounted with Archive mounter. Size is correctly reported to be 300+kB,
but editors open it as zero-sized content. Archive manager and 7zip
extract md5sum.txt without any problems.
