[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2011-06-26 Thread felix.rommel
It seems the problem is gone in Natty Gnome Classic mode:

In Natty the Indicator Applet Complete is used. It says An applet to
hold all of the system indicators.

This applet is a container which holds other applets. The good thing is,
that the individual applets _cannot_ be moved but only the whole applet
container! With this applet container it seems that this applet solves
the problem with moving applets apparently around!

This nice Indicator Applet Complete is avalaible in Lucid LTS, too.
But I haven't tested it there.

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2008-10-04 Thread felix.rommel
Is there any chance that the fix from Gnome 2.24 is backported to Hardy?

The moving icons on panel is the only reason why I instsall beginners
Kubuntu at the moment... In my point of view this is a major bug because
the panel is the most visible thing on a beginner desktop and if that
doesn't work they ask themselves if the system is broken...

[Bug 124536] Re: GDM login doesn't respect/stick the chosen locale

2007-09-21 Thread felix.rommel
As far as I understand the bug, I can confirm it:

I have german for GDM LOGIN screen. German is also the default for
user sessions.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Type your username and press Enter
2. Type your password
3. Now choose a language in GDM menu: Options Select language, for example
in this case English USA
4. There pops up a dialog which asks you if GDM LOGIN screen shall be restarted
with new language setting.
5. Click on No because I want to keep german for my GDM LOGIN screen.
6. Then there pops up another dialog which asks you if you want to make the new
language setting the default for your GNOME SESSION
7. Click on Make default because I want to have my GNOME SESSION in english
8. Log out of your Gnome session
9. GDM LOGIN screen still has german as language what's correct
10. Now login to your Gnome session with same user from step 1

Results:

After logging in Gnome again, german is the language for the GNOME
SESSION which is WRONG, because I want to have ghe GNOME SESSION in
english!

Exptected behavior:

It must be possible to have GDM LOGIN screen for example in german but
your GNOME SESSIONS in english for example!

[Bug 126719] Re: GDM does not kill resistant user processes after logout

2007-09-21 Thread felix.rommel
For me this is not a whishlist but a BUG. GDM 2.20 is out and nothing
happened upstream.

Please add an entry to GDM script that kills user processes. It's very
annoying to have many resistant processes running around after logging
out or killing X server. I'm not sure but they maybe interfere with each
other, if same user logs in again!?

I think Gnome session manager for example can collide if there is
already a running Gnome session manager. In my point of view this
session manager is not very reliable and if there is another one still
running there might be problems. Here sometimes session manager even
does not start correctly after a FRESH system startup.

What about computers where lots of people logout and login again many
times a day?

There you have lots of resistant processes staying in memory which is
not a good thing in my point of view. They are also using memory and in
case of Tracker staying in memory, it maybe even still use CPU.

[Bug 85570] Re: Evolution doesn't apply filters to IMAP account automatically

2007-09-19 Thread felix.rommel
Same problems here: filters aren't applied to e-mails in my imap
accounts automatically. If I apply them with ctrly they are moved to
correct target folders.

I think this bug is related to bug #70891 in Launchpad where other
people have that problem, too. Have posted a comment in

comment a bug - that was what someone told me there, so please post a

Yes it still happens with Gutsy Tribe3 + current updates. When I have no

klipper's icon so that I can not move forward and backward any more.

[Bug 125626] Re: Missing advanced tab in most printing dialogs

2007-07-26 Thread felix.rommel
In the advance tab of Gimp I can choose printout mode which is very
handy because printout mode differs for me very often:

- print a text file in in draft grayscale mode
- print a picture in in photo color quality
- print a web page in default color mode
- print a document in normal grayscale mode

This allows me to save color from color cartridge or gives me more speed
for simple text printouts. And it's VERY ANNOYING if I always have to
go to:

System Settings Printer Edit Printer Settings Set printout mode

For setting right printout mode for the task.

[Bug 127504] Window list applet size does not maximize

2007-07-22 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Gutsy Tribe-2 + current updates:

Please describe the problem:
Window list applet size does not maximize, even if there is free room on the
panel which could be used for maximizing window list (see attached screenshot).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Add window list applet to your panel
2. Add for example drivemount applet right beside it
3. Add system notification area right beside drivemount applet
4. Open about 10 different (!) applications so that you have many shown in
window list applet
5. Open for example banshee and rhythmbox that there are two more icons in
notification area and drivemount applet is automatically moved a bit to the
left
6. Close banshee and rhythmbox so that notification area applet is resized a
bit to the right

Actual results:
Window list applet does not maximize automatically so that drivemount applet is
NOT moved a bit to the right. That means there will remain empty unused space
which should be used by window list applet. This happens whether drivemount
applet is located left from notification area or the other way round.

Expected results:
Window list applet should ALWAYS maximize its size automatically. That means it
should move not locked applets beside so that window list applet can maximize
its size! Ohterwise there will be unused space on the panel!

Does this happen every time?

[Bug 126719] GDM does not kill resistant user processes after logout

2007-07-18 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Description:

The bug is described in Gnome's bugzilla:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152907

I don't know if they will fix it upstream, so please provide a patch
that kills resistant user processes after logging out of Gnome session.
Even if user did a CtrlAltBackspace to kill the X server it's
unacceptable that there will be resistant user processes in memory!

Following bug in Launchpad deals with a similar problem:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/49594

Expected behavior:

If Gnome devs are not interested in killing processes after
CtrlAltBackspace was hit by a user, GDM should have a patch that
kills ALL user processes which are still running. Thanks.

[Bug 125626] Missing advanced tab in most printing dialogs

2007-07-12 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:

Description:

In most Gnome applications, the Advanced tab is missing. In Gimp it's
there!

How to reproduce:

1. Open for example gedit
2. Open print dialog

Expected behavior:

Advanced tab should be available in ALL Gnome applications! This is
important because people often want to print a web map, text or sth.
like that only in Draft grayscale and NOT in color mode - It's not
user friendly if you have to go do

System Settings Printer Edit Printer Settings Set printout mode

ESSENTIAL tab in printing dialog. So please ADD the Advanced tab as

[Bug 94496] Re: [apport] gnome-theme-manager crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-03-21 Thread felix.rommel
I compiled QtCurve under 6.10 Edgy and generated deb with Checkinstall.
I had never problems with these packages under Edgy.

Then I freshly installed Feisty Herd 5 and installed my created QtCurve
deb packages. But they killed everything when starting a Gnome session:
gnome-settings-manager and no KDE application started.

Seems that with Edgy gcc compiled apps do not work under Feisty?? Have
never seen sth. like that a compiled theme makes that much truble.

I recompiled QtCurve packages under Feisty and everything is fine.

You can delete this bug or maybe just delete the attached files cause
they have a big size.

I only use one panel on top now. I added a second panel to test if it

Seems this problem is fixed.

But there is another problem with panel - if it hangs and I do a Ctrl-
Alt-Backspace to kill the X server many Gnome apps stay in background
and won't go away until I kill them in a shell. I have had this problem
in Ubuntu, Debian, SUSE with Gnome desktop. I think I will post another

[Bug 21791] Re: Trekstore USB storage: Hoary mount OK, Breezy mount NOT OK

2006-05-10 Thread felix.rommel
With Dapper it works:

/dev/sda2 on /media/Backup type ext3 (rw,nosuid,nodev)
/dev/sda3 on /media/Swap type ext2 (rw,nosuid,nodev)
/dev/sda1 on /media/usbdisk type vfat
(rw,nosuid,nodev,quiet,shortname=mixed,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=077,iocharset=utf8)

They are mounted with the right access permissions.

I have removed the labels to test if Dapper still mounts the partitions correct
and this is what I get:

/dev/sda3 on /media/usbdisk type ext2 (rw,nosuid,nodev)
/dev/sda2 on /media/usbdisk-1 type ext3 (rw,nosuid,nodev)
/dev/sda1 on /media/usbdisk-2 type vfat
(rw,nosuid,nodev,quiet,shortname=mixed,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=077,iocharset=utf8)

That means Dapper also mounts the partitions without Labels to the right
directories and with correct access permissions.

Only thing is that it mounts sda{1,2,3} the other way round usbdisk{-2,-1, }
instead of usbdisk{ ,-1,-2} but I can live with that ;) Bug is fixed from my
point of view.

[Bug 40340] Re: Drivemount applet shows my root and boot partition

2006-05-01 Thread felix.rommel
Had a closer look which partitions are mounted under /boot and /1 - these are
/dev/hda1 and /dev/hda8 which are not the Dapper / and /boot partitions.

This means that the Dapper / and /boot Partitions are NOT shown in the
Drivemount applet - so I was wrong with that.

But as I wrote in my initial post the behaviour of how Dapper shows mounted
partitions changed between Flight versions. As far as I remember older Dapper
Flights did not show partitions like other root filesystem partitions in the
drivemount applet...

That made me wonder since they appeared in the applet and that's why I posted
this report.

But if this is your preferred way how Dapper shall show other mounted
partitions everything is OK and this bug report is invalid.

[Bug 42391] Wish: Start items in drawer applet with one click

2006-05-01 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
The behaviour of the drawer panel applet needs 2 clicks at the moment to
start items in it. This is one click too much.

In earlier versions you could click on the drawer panel icon, move the
mouse over the item you wanna start and release the mouse button. This
was much faster and more a Unix/Linux feeling when working.

The current behaviour of having to click the drawer icon, release the
mouse button, wait until the drawer opens and click again on an item to
start it reminds me too much on another operating system...

[Bug 40274] Re: Feature wish: Adjust volume with mouse scroll wheel

2006-04-22 Thread felix.rommel

But the volume slider isn't synced with gnome-volume-applet. If I scroll down

And the volume change lags a little behind. If I move the slider volume changes

[Bug 29809] Re: Window size (mayby placement) is not saved on logoff.

Dapper Flight 5 + Updates 2006-04-20:

Here Gaim doesn't remember the window position.

Everytime I open it I move the contact list window to the right edge of the

the contact list window pops up on the left side of the screen.

My gaim config directory .gaim is from earlier versions - I think I also used

Yes, it's a 120 GByte external hard disk.

[Bug 34159] Keyboard focus get lost in Gnome panel

Comment:
Yes, with cursor I mean this black dotted rectangle which is appears
around an icon if you have icons on your panel. See my screenshot where
I highlighted the black dotted rectangle with a red rectangle.

Right - what I mean is that you CAN navigate with cursor left/right
through your panel. But if you press for example 20 times cursor right,
this small black rectangle gets lost and you're not able to navigate
through the panel any more.

I'm not disabled but sometimes it's faster to navigate with the keyboard
than with your mouse. I think it is also important for disabled persons
but I haven't talked with one, though.

[Bug 34156] Gnome panel systray - unefficient application icons arrangement

If you size the panel for example to 75 pixels the application list gets 3 rows

3. Log out so that GDM appears again
4. Now log in your Gnome session again

[Bug 32825] Complete computer lock when configuring Wireless PCMCIA card

2006-02-25 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32825

Affects: gnome-netstatus gnome-netstatus-applet (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Flight4:

I have a Trendnet TEW-441PC AR5212 802.11abg NIC capable card. I had no
problems configuring it for the wireless network in university.

I use a Cisco vpn client for accessing the internet. I compiled it with
kernel source for i386 from Flight4.

I was surfing the internet without problems.

But then I openend the gnome-netstatus-applet again because I wanted to
change an option and my notebook had a total lock. My keyboard was dead
and also the system cause the clock didn't function any more.

So this bug does not always happen.

I will attach some log files.

[Bug 32286] Gnome panel is gone - GConf problem?

2006-02-25 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32286

Comment:
There where no users logged in - only on VT when I did the ps.

Strange thing now is:

If I start Gnome now as my test user everything starts without any
problems. The 2 panels are now in the correct order on the top of the
screen.

I do not remember exactly if I killed the panel on VT when I did ps
ax... But I don't think that this is the reason and I wonder why it
works now!?

But that mustn't happen that there is a panel error the first time after
putting 2 panels on the top and logging out and in again.

[Bug 32731] Wish: Easy installation of ONE deb package in Nautilus

2006-02-24 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32731

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Wish for Dapper:

If I download a single deb package from internet for example opera, and
I click on it in Nautilus there will pop up file roller instead of an
installation dialog.

It would be great if it would be possible to click on a single deb
package in Nautilus and get an installation dialog asking the user if
he/she wants to install the package.

In Kubuntu they have integrated sth. like that in Konqueror which
installs a deb package if you click on it.

I think this is very important for users who want to install an package
from the internet which is not in Ubuntu repository like Opera, Skype,
...

[Bug 32286] Gnome panel is gone - GConf problem?

2006-02-21 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32286

Affects: gconf2 (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Dapper Flight4:

I have set up 2 panels one upon the other on top of the screen. One has
my desktop and window switcher and the other has application menu, icons
etc.

After logging out and logging in again the panels are gone and there
pops up an error message with sth. like:

There is already running one panel...

I can press only the OK button and will be left with a blank desktop
without any panels.

My guess is that it is GConf related cause there all settings are
stored!?

And this is not the first time that I have troubles with Gnome loading
my settings. Seems GConf is VERY vulnerable to getting screwed up...

I'd like to attach my zipped .gconf2 directory but I can't find an
option here in Malone to attach sth. to a bug report...
