[Bug 1758512] Re: No virtual terminals (CTRL+ALT+F?) when no user logged in; erratic behaviour when user logged in.
Reproducible on 18.04.3 LTS on a t460s Thinkpad. (Yes, enable function- lock, or remember to press Fn + ctrl + alt + f3) Do a normal login and press CTRL-ALT-F1. Now it switches to a virtual console showing the boot log. Alas there is no way to switch back to any other virtual console!! Reboot here is the only option. Do a normal login and press CTRL-ALT-F1. Now it switches to a virtual console with a login prompt. Nice. Do not press ALT-F1 or you will end up in the boot log again...reboot. Press ALT-F2 to get back to the graphical console. Then I removed the comments for the two lines: NAutoVTs=6 ReserveVT=6 in the file /etc/systemd/logind.conf and rebooted. Then it started to work better. F1 seems to be the gdm graphical login prompt. F2 has the graphical desktop. F3 is the first virtual console terminal. I do not know where to boot log went... However wait after pressing the CTRL-ALT-Fx and ALT-Fx keys when switching consoles. If I switch between the consoles too fast, them the X-process sometimes crashes and you get the login screen again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1758512 Title: No virtual terminals (CTRL+ALT+F?) when no user logged in; erratic behaviour when user logged in. [Bug 1732474] Re: Closing lid with external monitor plugged in sends system to sleep
I have this exact same issue. If I turn off suspend on lid close in the Gnome Tweak Tool I have sometimes been able to close the lid without issues (as in, the laptop monitor turns off and the external one blinks black for a second, cursor still visible). Since a couple of days back, that stopped working as well (it worked for at least a few weeks before then). If I close my lid now, the laptop locks and my external monitor turns off. The only way to get out of the state is to open the lid, upon which I am presented by the login screen. I am using my onboard Intel graphics (combined with bumblebee and the dedicated Nvidia card, but clearly Intel is the active one when this happens). [Bug 17962] Re: newly opened gnome-terminal windows don't have .bash_profile sourced
This is not a bug; newly started terminal emulators should not start login shells, since they are already part of a login session. They are correct in running sh/bash as a non-login shell, which is the same behavior as would be observed when, for example, starting an escape shell from the ftp/telnet program or similar. Rather, ~/.bash_profile (or probably, rather, ~/.profile) should be sourced when logging in via GDM, so that all environmental changes it causes also affects all X programs (including, but not limited to, xterm and gnome-terminal themselves). -- newly opened gnome-terminal windows don't have .bash_profile sourced https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/17962 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

It may very well be so, I just marked them both to make some with the permissions to merge bugs to take note of this and combine them. If upstream means the f-spot team, they seem to be convinced that this is a bug in the ubuntu patches, not in the original source code. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-menus My suggestion is to have each program belong to a sub-category. For instance, Sudoku could be in the Puzzle sub-category. Should perhaps be coordinated with FreeDesktop.org? But when a normal category reaches a certain number of entries, like 15, then an additional entry, named something like Sort into Sub-categories or Enable Sub-categories, could be added at the top inside that category. Or gnome could just sort the entries automatically. ** Affects: gnome-menus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Menu Sub-Categories https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200958 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 149192] choosing Launch firefox action causes firefox to segfault

Had to quit to reproduce the strace but discovered that every second time I try to launch firefox I get segmentation faults. See the attached strace. This has nothing to do with deskbar-applet. [Bug 146901] Not specified (ugly and very small) font in Gutsy
Public bug reported: I have all fonts in my system specified to Sans och size 8. The deskbar applet windows disregard this and use a smaller font - which I never have specified. Is it so that the application automatically use a smaller size of a font i have specified? If so, that is really stupid and should be removed. I have marked the text in the screenshot. [Bug 132678] Re: printing in landscape mode clips to portrait
OK, I tried this: 1. Check rotate 90 degrees and landscape in page setup. Preview is OK. 2. Go to print dialog. Orientation then defaults to portrait in this dialog, which is reflected in preview and the actual printout. (This is another known bug.) So one has to select landscape there as well. I think I tried all combinations of the three settings rotate 90 degrees and landscape in the page setup dialog and landscape in the print dialog, without success. BUT: I just found out that if the preview is right, clicking on the printer icon at the top of the preview window prints correctly!!! At least this makes it possible to print in landscape. This doesn't involve the print dialog at all, which has the drawback that it isn't possible to choose printer or sheets. -- printing in landscape mode clips to portrait https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132678 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for libgnomeprint in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 132678] printing in landscape mode clips to portrait
Public bug reported: I cannot print in landscape from any gnome apps. I can get the orientation and placement of the printout right but the text is then clipped to portrait width, leaving the right side of the landscape paper blank. 1. Open a wide spreadsheet in gnumeric for example. 2. Set landscape and rotate 90 degrees in the page setup dialog. Preview displays the page correctly. 3. Select print and select landscape again there as well. Preview still displays the page correctly. 4. Click print (either to a printer or to a pdf file). The result is that the text is clipped to a portrait format, even though the orientation and location on the page is right. I'm using libgnomeprint2.2 2.18.0-0ubuntu1 under Feisty. It was annoying enough under Ubuntu Dapper, where I had to check both landscape and rotate 90 degrees in the page setup dialog, and landscape in the print dialog, or it would not print correctly. That was probably related to some of the other bugs reported here, #24785 for example. But at least there _was_ a way to print in landscape. This is a rather serious issue to me since I print out lots of stuff in landscape every day, especially from gnumeric. ** Affects: libgnomeprint (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- printing in landscape mode clips to portrait https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132678 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for libgnomeprint in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
