[Bug 1758512] Re: No virtual terminals (CTRL+ALT+F?) when no user logged in; erratic behaviour when user logged in.

2020-01-28 Thread Fredrik Öhrström
Reproducible on 18.04.3 LTS on a t460s Thinkpad. (Yes, enable function-
lock, or remember to press Fn + ctrl + alt + f3)

Do a normal login and press CTRL-ALT-F1. Now it switches to a virtual
console showing the boot log. Alas there is no way to switch back
to any other virtual console!! Reboot here is the only option.

Do a normal login and press CTRL-ALT-F1. Now it switches to a virtual
console with a login prompt. Nice. Do not press ALT-F1 or you will end up
in the boot log again...reboot. Press ALT-F2 to get back to the graphical
console.

Then I removed the comments for the two lines:
NAutoVTs=6
ReserveVT=6
in the file /etc/systemd/logind.conf
and rebooted.

Then it started to work better. F1 seems to be the gdm graphical login prompt.
F2 has the graphical desktop. F3 is the first virtual console terminal. I do
not know where to boot log went...

However wait after pressing the CTRL-ALT-Fx and ALT-Fx keys when switching
consoles.
If I switch between the consoles too fast,
them the X-process sometimes crashes and you get
the login screen again.

Typo above, the second CTRL-ALT-F1 in the text above should be CTRL-

2019-12-08 Thread Fredrik Jacobsson
So I still see this bug on several machines here that runs Ubuntu 20.04
with Gnome Flashback. And I suspects this bug causes Updatemanager to
fail sometimes when the system autostarts it while the screensaver is
activated. (The program is running minimized, but unable to unminimize.
You have to close/kill it and manually start it)

[Bug 1799266] Re: gnome-shell uses 44% cpu when simply moving windows

2018-10-23 Thread Fredrik Öhrström
Thank you! After reading through the reference bugs, it seems like you
have a bit of a handful here.

I have temporarily switch back to unity since the stuttering of movies
and general slugginesh due to gnome-shell is not bearable. But let me
know if you need testing and I will switch back and test any solutions
you have created.

[Bug 1732474] Re: Closing lid with external monitor plugged in sends system to sleep

2017-11-29 Thread Fredrik Blomqvist
I have this exact same issue. If I turn off suspend on lid close in the
Gnome Tweak Tool I have sometimes been able to close the lid without
issues (as in, the laptop monitor turns off and the external one blinks
black for a second, cursor still visible). Since a couple of days back,
that stopped working as well (it worked for at least a few weeks before
then). If I close my lid now, the laptop locks and my external monitor
turns off. The only way to get out of the state is to open the lid, upon
which I am presented by the login screen.

I am using my onboard Intel graphics (combined with bumblebee and the
dedicated Nvidia card, but clearly Intel is the active one when this
happens).

Has there been any progress on this?

[Bug 871133] Re: Volume Step not changeable in Unity and GNOME desktops

2017-11-13 Thread Fredrik Blomqvist
How does one use this new feature? Tried to find instructions for it but
found nothing. Is it still a dconf setting? If so, where is it located?
The same one that Nathan's patch used does not yield any difference in
volume steps.

[Bug 1537983] [NEW] gnome-screensaver loses screen control when desktop is Flashback + Compiz on single screen computers

2016-01-25 Thread Fredrik Jacobsson
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

Description:Ubuntu Xenial Xerus (development branch)
Release:16.04

I use gnome-flashback with compiz on my machines. I have four (2 single
screen and 2 dual screen) and the problem only occur on the single
screen machines.

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

gnome-screensaver:
  Installed: 3.6.1-7ubuntu4
  Candidate: 3.6.1-7ubuntu4
  Version table:
 *** 3.6.1-7ubuntu4 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen

Get back to the desktop when I touch the mouse or keyboard.

4) What happened instead

Screen is on and black except the clock line and locked (Why? I do not lock my
screens) user name at the top, plus the mouse pointer.
The only keyboard input available is switch to virtual terminals.
There is no way to get back to the desktop. I just kill the session by "sudo
killall lightdm" and log in again.

Same problem for me.
Trying to copy 45Gb (aprox. 12.000 files) from QNAP NAS to my newly installed
12.10 and it will hang randomly.
I have tried this with Mint and Fedora and it works (don't know id Fedora uses
gvfs or not).

[Bug 1093325] [NEW] Lowest brightness setting renders screen black

2012-12-23 Thread Fredrik Ekelund
Public bug reported:

I see the logic in that the lowest brightness would be 0. But in
reality, it seems a very impractical solution. Dragging the slider to 0
and then not being able to turn it up again (my hotkeys don't work --
kernel related issue.) I would propose that the lowest setting indeed is
very dark, but not completely black.

This problem appears on an Asus UX32VD, running Ubuntu 12.10.

[Bug 1017750] Re: Rhythmbox freezes on Media Player context menu Properties with Samsung Galaxy S3 connected

2012-08-16 Thread Nils Fredrik Gjerull
Got this message from rhythmbox when trying to sync with my Galaxy s3:

assertion `instance != NULL  instance-g_class != NULL' failed

I think Geoffrey Pursell is right in thinking it is related to bug
1015010. This assertion error might be caused by rhytmbox not getting
the infomation it needs from libmtp?

This is wrong! This bug has nothing to do with being behind a proxy.

The error is:

WOCKY_CONNECTOR_ERROR_TLS_SESSION_FAILED (#7): SSL handshake error: -12:

Apparently the problem has occured for others as well, but in different
contexts.

This issue has been reported independently to gnome bugzilla.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=637219

There's even a comment that has identified it as a race condition and
has offered a simplistic workaround to prove that.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=637219#c6

I experience this issue almost every time I log in on natty with gnome

Removing the account and recreating it does not work.

When restarting evolution without an account a setup wizard is
displayed. In this wizard text is randomly removed from the gui (labels

2011-04-07 Thread Fredrik Ekelund
I'm having what I would assume is the same issue, and if it is, I can
confirm that it has nothing to do with closing/opening the laptop lid.
When my battery is fully charged, the icon displays its most discharged

Although after having discharged just somewhat (10 minutes, perhaps),
the icon reverts to the fully charged version.

I don't know if this is the consequence of Firefox killing the xsession

[Bug 17962] Re: newly opened gnome-terminal windows don't have .bash_profile sourced

2009-06-19 Thread Fredrik Tolf
This is not a bug; newly started terminal emulators should not start
login shells, since they are already part of a login session. They are
correct in running sh/bash as a non-login shell, which is the same
behavior as would be observed when, for example, starting an escape
shell from the ftp/telnet program or similar.

Rather, ~/.bash_profile (or probably, rather, ~/.profile) should be
sourced when logging in via GDM, so that all environmental changes it
causes also affects all X programs (including, but not limited to, xterm
and gnome-terminal themselves).

2009-05-02 Thread Fredrik Persson
It may very well be so, I just marked them both to make some with the
permissions to merge bugs to take note of this and combine them.

If upstream means the f-spot team, they seem to be convinced that this
is a bug in the ubuntu patches, not in the original source code.
Therefore, the maintainer of the ubuntu patches need to look into them.

[Bug 216738] [NEW] gnome share folder gui seriously flawed

2008-04-13 Thread Fredrik Stagling
Public bug reported:

Right-click a folder in nautilus - Share folder. The tool that pops up
is seriously flawed. Trying to use it during only one minut I discovered
three bugs...

- When I deleted the share name and wrote something else in there, it marked
the input box red and showed a message on the bottom saying the name couldn't
be empty. Because I deleted the name first? ...
- When the tool popped up it asked me if I wanted to install the necessary
utilities to use the tool. I pressed install, but even though it failed (I have
no internet connection at the time) it unlocked all of the window's
functionality, which would probably lead to several new bugs seeing how
undeveloped this program is...
- When I had installed the necessary utilities I couldn't create the share
anyway. It displayed the following message on the bottom of the window:
net usershare returnerade fel 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare
directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error Åtkomst nekas
You do not have permission to create a usershare. Ask your administrator to
grant you permissions to create a share. Åtkomst nekas = Access denied. I
tried to share a folder in my /home folder, so this was kind of unexpected...

Why shouldn't Evolution honor my BCC-settings just because it is started

[Bug 200955] [NEW] Gnome Panel Applets Moves Randomly

2008-03-11 Thread Fredrik Stagling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Description:
The gnome panel's applets sometimes reposition themselves randomly,
disregarding whether they are locked or not. A few times this has happened for
me when I logged in and I noticed they were not where I placed them. But this
time, after I played a fullscreen game at a resolution lower than my desktop
resolution, it was completely messed up. Take a look at it:
http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/9909/skrmbilded2.png

Steps to reproduce:
1. Have lots of icons and applets in the panel, some locked, some not locked
2. Open a fullscreen game, set its resolution lower than desktop resolution
3. Exit the game/crash the game

Does this happen every time?
For me, yes. To be honest, it didn't look this bad when I first exited the
fullscreen game. When I restarted the computer, however, it became completely
messed up.

[Bug 200958] [NEW] Menu Sub-Categories

2008-03-11 Thread Fredrik Stagling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-menus

My suggestion is to have each program belong to a sub-category. For instance,
Sudoku could be in the Puzzle sub-category. Should perhaps be coordinated
with FreeDesktop.org?

The sub-categories aren't really that necessary when you only have five
applications of one type, so the sub-categories could be hidden at first just
like now. But when a normal category reaches a certain number of entries, like
15, then an additional entry, named something like Sort into Sub-categories or
Enable Sub-categories, could be added at the top inside that category. Or gnome
could just sort the entries automatically.

[Bug 132678] Re: printing in landscape mode clips to portrait

2007-08-16 Thread Fredrik Ståhl
OK, I tried this:

1. Check rotate 90 degrees and landscape in page setup. Preview is OK.
2. Go to print dialog. Orientation then defaults to portrait in this dialog,
which is reflected in preview and the actual printout. (This is another known
bug.) So one has to select landscape there as well.

I think I tried all combinations of the three settings rotate 90
degrees and landscape in the page setup dialog and landscape in the
print dialog, without success.

BUT: I just found out that if the preview is right, clicking on the
printer icon at the top of the preview window prints correctly!!! At
least this makes it possible to print in landscape. This doesn't involve
the print dialog at all, which has the drawback that it isn't possible
to choose printer or sheets.

[Bug 132678] printing in landscape mode clips to portrait

2007-08-15 Thread Fredrik Ståhl
Public bug reported:

I cannot print in landscape from any gnome apps. I can get the
orientation and placement of the printout right but the text is then
clipped to portrait width, leaving the right side of the landscape paper
blank.

1. Open a wide spreadsheet in gnumeric for example.
2. Set landscape and rotate 90 degrees in the page setup dialog. Preview
displays the page correctly.
3. Select print and select landscape again there as well. Preview still
displays the page correctly.
4. Click print (either to a printer or to a pdf file).

The result is that the text is clipped to a portrait format, even though
the orientation and location on the page is right.

I'm using libgnomeprint2.2 2.18.0-0ubuntu1 under Feisty.

It was annoying enough under Ubuntu Dapper, where I had to check both
landscape and rotate 90 degrees in the page setup dialog, and
landscape in the print dialog, or it would not print correctly. That
was probably related to some of the other bugs reported here, #24785 for
example. But at least there _was_ a way to print in landscape.

This is a rather serious issue to me since I print out lots of stuff in
landscape every day, especially from gnumeric.

[Bug 39050] Re: gstreamer crashes due to BadAlloc response from xv

2007-06-07 Thread Fredrik Wendt
Adding the LinearAlloc option to xorg.conf did it for me (after turning desktop
effects off - that still produces a blank black surface in the window where the
movie should to be (anyone have a bug number for this one?)).
lspci tells me I'm using an Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03).
The command run was totem --sync --debug leaftag-gimmie.avi and it's only
output ** Message: Couldn't initialize lirc. which is perfectly ok.

It's the same error with no .theme and there are no errors reported in
that file.

[Bug 114647] Re: Gnome-theme-manager remain in processlist after closing using 100% CPU

2007-05-27 Thread Fredrik Sjögren
This happens all the time!

I tried to do like you said but it ended up with a X crash. After that
my user account was totally broken so I had to remove .gconf directory.

I do not dare to open gnome-theme-manager anymore

[Bug 114647] Re: Gnome-theme-manager remain in processlist after closing using 100% CPU

2007-05-27 Thread Fredrik Sjögren
I *think* this bug is related to the fact that I have copied my /home from an
earlier installation (Edgy).
There are themes without screenshot in the list. Is there any way to clean up
the themes list?

[Bug 114647] Gnome-theme-manager remain in processlist after closing using 100% CPU

2007-05-14 Thread Fredrik Sjögren
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When closing the process is still there (looked with top) and using 100%
CPU time on one of my cores.

I think this is related to the crashes that corrupts gconf and makes it
impossible to start gnome. I just had to wipe my .gconf directory.

[Bug 69977] Re: Unable to login after gnome-theme-manager crash

2007-05-13 Thread Fredrik Sjögren
I have the same problem. Can't login right now.

I did also save the /home partiion when upgrading.

THAT uncommon isn't that so this should be fixed.

At least around me I often hear Gonme has bad file selectors.
