I don't think getting around the issue is the solution. Evince is the official pdf viewing application for Gnome and should be able to work out of the box. Also, acroread does not work straightforwardly for amd64. Plus it is a software one has to add manually, just like xpdf. My printer is a network HP color laserjet printer (HP Color LaserJet 4600 v3010.107 Postscript) Running Feisty I didn't had such problems, but now: I've got large differences between the on-screen evince display of files (which is correct) and the way evince prints it (wether using the preview function or printing the stuff already) which is incorrect.
