[Bug 2011251] Re: When focus-mode=mouse is set, gnome-shell gets into state where clicking on window title bars doesn't raise them

[Bug 2075983] Re: Strange behaviors with external displays over Displaylink
In the round of testing I did before writing comment #4, I tried both with the dock and without the dock attached. I also tested with nothing plugged in at all aside from the direct HDMI connection. If I can find a mini-DisplayPort cable I have some other hardware I can test as well to see if maybe it's HDMI or display specific. Is this the sort of thing we might be able to open a conversation to implement upstream? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2075983 Title: Strange behaviors with external displays over Displaylink To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2075983/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 2075983] Re: Strange behaviors with external displays over Displaylink
I'll test the scaling issue again, as I'm now unable to replicate the same scenario I had last week when opening this report. To focus on the suspend issue, I would echo the case that was made to me: when it comes to what many users will define as expected behavior they're going to be looking at Windows and macOS as well. On Windows the default behavior for lid close is to put the laptop into suspend, even if it is connected to external displays. This behavior has to be manually overridden. Similarly, on macOS the default behavior on lid close is also to enter suspend as well. The one notable change is that for a brief window of time, keyboard and mouse movements will wake the laptop on the connected displays. All of that said, I think if we just exposed that setting in the GUI somewhere as you mentioned, that would be a perfect compromise. Unfortunately in my case changing that setting has not changed the behavior I'm seeing. I still get the behavior of the internal display shutting off but the laptop remaining active. This is happening with the laptop directly connected via on-board HDMI as well, so my assumption that it was DisplayLink related may be a red herring.
[Bug 2075983] [NEW] Strange behaviors with external displays over Displaylink
Public bug reported: Release: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS gnome-shell: Installed: 46.0-0ubuntu6~24.04.1 Expected behavior (As seen on Windows/macOS): * When plugging in external displays, they should be able to scale independently of the internal display * When external displays are active through a display link dock, closing the laptop lid should invoke suspend The above behavior would match the behavior seen when displays are connected directly to the laptop. Actual behavior: * External displays connected through a DisplayLink dock are forced to the same scaling ratio * Closing the laptop lid when external displays are connected through a display link dock results in the internal display turning off but no sleep behavior * This happens regardless of config changes with dconf, upower, or logind This is primarily a usability issue for laptops with limited ports for IO and extremely high resolution internal panels. ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2075983 Title: Strange behaviors with external displays over Displaylink To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2075983/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This one really affects my productivity. It's not only terminal it's also slack and some other apps. Looking forward to @Daniel's PPA. This also raises a question of testing upstream packages by Ubuntu team, as clearly this wasn't tested in all possible usage cases. [Bug 2040453] Re: Gnome 45 crash on restart in X11 session [Window manager error: Another compositing manager is already running on screen 0 on display “:0”]
I tested this with the very small patch indicated in #1 and it worked. I did "apt-src install mutter" applied the patch.txt file with "patch -p1 < patch.txt" "apt-src build mutter" it fails all the tests but apparently this is expected, so i just went into the obj directory and did "sudo ninja install" and it replaced all the versions from the original .deb package. I logged out and back in, and then I was able to restart gnome-shell (alt+f2 and r) while I still had windows open. Their discussions about this issue seem to have gotten bogged down in minutiae of what other bugs are related, does some other bigger patch fix those bugs, no one tested it, etc. So I think it might be a good idea to carry this small patch for now, and hopefully by the time it starts conflicting it will no longer be necessary because it will be fixed some other way. :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2040453 Title: Gnome 45 crash on restart in X11 session [Window manager error: Another compositing manager is already running on screen 0 on display “:0”] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/2040453/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 2040453] Re: Gnome 45 crash on restart in X11 session [Window manager error: Another compositing manager is already running on screen 0 on display “:0”]
This bug is definitely important to me, being able to restart GNOME Shell after it locks up, crashes, or updating an extension, _without_ losing any of my work or having to restart a large amount of open programs, is one of the main reasons I still run it on X11. Luckily I was testing 23.10 in a VM while working on porting an extension and so haven't updated my main machine yet. But I won't be doing that until this is fixed. I can confirm this bug. In my case Nautilus automatically freezes if I use the search in Nautilus or if I search for files in overview. I haven’t been able to catch the output or why it freezes. I still tried disabling the rounded window corners even though you said it was probably another problem, and yeah it didn't work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1989067 Title: gnome-control-center Segmentation fault (core dumped) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1989067/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thanks for the directions... It's not that hard to reproduce here, I just have to move between places (or I could bring my other monitor closer, for more intense troubleshooting if need be). [Bug 1987076] [NEW] Mouse cannot control windows after suspend and display change
Public bug reported: My setup is this: Ubuntu: 22.04.1 LTS (Vanilla Gnome session on Wayland) Laptop: Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 2a (AMD). Display: Lenovo T34w-20, connected via USB-C The problem started with upgrade to 22.04 I have had the same exact problem with my previous laptop, a ThinkPad T14s. Both of these are AMD laptops, but I had no problem on 21.10. Way I can usually reproduce (always?) 1. Suspend my laptop by yanking out the USB-C cable. 2. Resume the laptop by connecting a different monitor (same make and model, but not the same physical one) and hit the keyboard a few times. Note: Resuming on the same physical display does not seem to result in the same problem. After this, I can no longer control the Windows on my desktop. The mouse cursor is active, but moves behind the open windows, and mouse click is not registered (at least not in a way that is useful). I can navigate the windows and use the applications, using the keyboard. Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get to GDM, the mouse works fine. Going back the the real session, mouse is still "broken". Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get to a TTY, and going back to the original session, mouse is still "broken". Only way I have found to reliably restore functionality is a reboot (which I have been doing a lot of the last few months). Please let me know what else I can provide you with, in order to get this fixed. :) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: mutter 42.2-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.15.0-46.49-generic 5.15.39 Uname: Linux 5.15.0-46-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu82.1 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Fri Aug 19 10:32:48 2022 InstallationDate: Installed on 2022-05-20 (91 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish" - Release amd64 (20220419) SourcePackage: mutter UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug jammy wayland-session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1987076 Title: Mouse cannot control windows after suspend and display change To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1987076/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1899206] Re: Tweaktool Keyboard “Additional Layout Options” not persisting on USB keyboard unplug/reconnect
@westonhunter: I use gnome tweasks to swap the left Win with left Ctrl on my Apple keyboard. To clarify, that setting is lost even after I type in my password and get back into the desktop. As a temporary solution, I set "blank screen delay" to never and disabled "automatic screen lock", so I don't have to reset the gnome session everytime my screen goes blank. Do you use Apple Keyboard? I am not sure if this behaviour have something to do with that. I should also mention that I use Apple Magic Mouse II and noticed that "Natural Scrolling" does not work when the mouse is reconnected or the system is restarted. So I would have to reset the gnome session for the "Natural Scrolling" to work. Hello, Sorry for my late information update on the problem. Distros where i experience the bug: zorin 15.2, ubuntu 20.04 lates nautilus (written on 15.05.2020). Sorry, this is so old that I've forgotten what it was about and the circumstances. Also, I never understood the issues. I have since upgraded to 18.04 and then to 18.04.1. I've also gotten out of the habit of reporting such things. I will start reporting them again.
