[Bug 998281] [NEW] Brasero in Precise burns coasters for data projects

2012-05-11 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

Brasero in precise 3.4.1-0ubuntu1 burns coasters on data dvd projects. It goes
through the burn process but once the CD is ejected and reinserted , the CD
fails to mount.
The CD also fails to mount on 10.10.

Burning the same files in Ubuntu 10.10 using Brasero (2.32) was
successful.

2010-08-30 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox opens in minimized mode when plugging in an Mp3 player device,

This is undesirable when considering the device is selected as open

either system has ignored the request or it has crashed.

[Bug 388904] Re: Nautilus 'Computer' displays redundant labels

2009-12-30 Thread pt123
Is there anyway of removing the eyesore 500 GB Hardisk: in front of the
drives. It is rather unnecessary and takes the focus from most info the
Name/Label/MountPoint of the partition.
Or it should be shown in a smaller and lighter text below the
Name/Label/MountPoint.

Do I really need to see 500GB so many times, I bought the hard disk I know it
is 500GB, I don't need to be reminded of it every day.

When one has given a label for a partition there is no need to mention how
large the drive the partition sits on, after all it is limited by the partition
size.

[Bug 275495] Re: nautilus search, when several places are choosen only the latest is searched

2009-08-29 Thread pt123
Kompute's proposals are cluttered and not pleasing on the eye.

Nautilus' current search is great for most of your searches. When you
have a folder with many files, you press ctrl + F and you are presented
with the cursor already in the search textbox and all you need to enter
a portion of the name and press enter. Simple and quick.

Unlike Windows XP where you have to answer so many questions before you
are even allowed to enter your search text.

Please avoid cluttering the basic search window.

[Bug 409219] [NEW] Computer location incorrectly displays custom icons for the partition once a removable drive is attached

2009-08-05 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

One of the useful features in Nautilus is to select your own icon for
directory items.

In the Computer:/// location this is very useful as you can assign
meaningful icons to your partitions.

But when you plug an external hard disk and new partitions populate the
computer:/// location, and when you have removed the drive , on your
next reboot all the custom icons you assigned get jumbled and they are
incorrectly given to the wrong partitions.

I am guessing the issue is how these icons are stored to which
partition. Doesn't happen with folders.

[Bug 204434] Re: Thumbnails for 200% zoom are regenerated each time a folder is opened.

2009-04-09 Thread pt123
I am using this version in Jaunty
1:2.26.1-0ubuntu1 and this bugs seems to be there.

It might not be regenerating the higher quality thumbnails but it still
appears to be.

If I reopen the folder (which was set to 200% earlier) the thumbnails it shows
are the low quality ones (i.e. they are blurry) then after a while it starts
showing the better quality thumbnails. It does it in such a slow manner that it
appears to be recreating those thumbnails again.
The only difference I have seen is that lack of a white border that appears
when a zoom level is increased.

I have attached a screenshot comparison, the first is the high quality
thumb, the second is the thumb after reopening the folder (i.e. the low
quality.)

What is the deal with all these new remote desktop applications even

[Bug 237990] [NEW] Appearance preferances background doesn't respond to mouse clicks

2008-06-06 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

Not sure if it is Nautilus but I couldn't select gnome-appearance-
properties as a package.

I am unable to choose the background in the gnome-appearance-properties
using a mouse , but can with the keyboard's arrow keys. Also the CPU
usage shot to 95% for gnome-appearance-properties and I had to kill it.

I noticed this only after an update to Nautilus yesterday (1:2.22.3-0ubuntu2).
Firstly after the update no background image was displayed.
For some reason the draw_background value in Gconf editor was turned off.
Turning it back on draws the WP.

However changing the WP in the gnome-appearance-properties becomes extremely
slow and non-responsive to the mouse, you can select the wallpaper using the
keyboard. Though the CPU usage shoots to 95% for gnome-appearance-properties
till you close the applet.
This never happened before the update but there were other gnome packages that
were updated at this time.

More discussion about it here

[Bug 217196] Re: Totem-gstreamer produces artifacts during encoding

2008-04-14 Thread pt123
I can confirm it too

When playing xvid files there isn't a smooth play back in the video.
Parts of the picture will get blurry every so often.

It has more do with decoding because if you play back around the
position where this occurred, the picture is fine.

I don't get this problem in Smplayer.

[Bug 208467] Re: Camera Device button Open F-spot Photo Manager doesn't work

2008-04-13 Thread pt123
The problem seems to be fixed now.

GThumb picks up the camera when it is plugged into the computer
using this command in
gnome-volume-manager-gthumb %h

The camera doesn't get mounted in the Computer section. Even when
ignore is selected when Gthumb asks if you want to import the photos.

When you open Fspot and choose import photos, it is able to access the
camera.

Thanks for the fix.

[Bug 208467] [NEW] Camera Device button Open F-spot Photo Manager doesn't work

2008-03-28 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release:8.04
Fspot : 0.4.2-1ubuntu (hardy)
GThumb: 2.10.6
--
When you attach a camera, it gets placed in the Computer area in Nautilus
eg. Canon, Inc. PowerShot A400 / PowerShot A400 (PTP mode)
Then when you open it in Nautilus, that on top of the files window appears:
This media contains digital photos and a button Open F-spot Photo Manager
See Attached screenshot.

When you click on this button it opens F-spot manager.
Then when you click on import in F-spot you get the error:
Error Connecting to the Camera
Received could not lock the device while connecting to the camera

The problem is that soon as you open camera (as mention earlier) it gets
mounted and for some reason it looks other applications including fspot
from gthumb from accessing it.

But if you right click on the camera in nautilus and unmount it fspot
gthumb can access the camera fine.

So soon as one clicks the Open F-spot manager it needs to unmount the
camera either that or remove that button completely.

[Bug 207566] [NEW] NTFS Trash Problem

2008-03-27 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Now in Hardy when you delete a file on the NTFS partition it says it can
not move to trash and that you can only immediately delete it. This
permanently deletes the file.

In Gutsy it would move the file into the .Trash-username folder.
This setting in Hardy is very dangerous. esp. for new users that trying out
Ubuntu.

The Gutsy method was a lot safer, because when you accidentally delete
something a standard ubuntu user would know to check the .Trash-username folder.
As for a new ubuntu user, they might have a panic attack and end up searching
the internet for a solution. Finding that it is in the .Trash-username folder
is re-assuring, compared to it is gone forever.
Even the warning message is not clear enough too. Do want to delete
immediately it should have in it will be permanently lost/deleted.

Then you have to ponder how useful is a warning message that comes
immediately after the user has requested to delete a file. It is usually
after minutes or hours when one recognises they have incorrectly deleted
a file.

A lot of these new users trying out Ubuntu will have NTFS drives holding
their valuable data. This is going to give them an awful experience.

[Bug 207593] [NEW] This media contains digital photos is problematic

2008-03-27 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hardy problem.

When I connect the USB connection of my camera.
The f-spot-import command is not being run when the Camera is plugged in.

But the camera gets mounted on Computer://
As Canon, Inc. PowerShot A400 / PowerShot A400 (PTP mode)
Then when you open in Nautilus , that on top of the files window appears:
This media contains digital photos and a button Open Fspot Manager

When you click on this button it opens F-spot manager, the F-spot import
dialog doesn't open up.
Then when you click on import in F-spot, it doesn't even default to the camera,
you have to manually select the camera.

Then you get another hurdle Error Connecting to the Camera
Received could not lock the device while connecting to the camera

So what you end up having to do is re-plugging the camera, and then you
shouldn't not opening the camera in Nautilus as that locks the camera.
Open F-spot and go from there.

I am guessing the heart of the problem is that it is not being
recognised as a camera.

[Bug 204434] [NEW] Thumbnails for 200% zoom are regenerated each time a folder is opened.

2008-03-20 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I open a folder with images (around 20 wallpaper sizes), and
change the zoom level to 200%. It resizes the thumbnail image, so
obviously it becomes blurry. Note this process is completed quickly.

Then it seems to create a new thumbnail from the original image with the
larger thumbnail dimensions, providing sharper and aesthetically
pleasing thumbnails. This process is slow but understandable.

If I close Nautilus and open the same folder (it remembers the zoom
level), it's using the smaller thumbnails, than the larger sharper ones
it created earlier. Then it goes around re-creating the larger
thumbnails. Slows the systems down in the process.

This it deters you from setting the zoom level up in a folder, it isn't
caching/saving thumbnails at a higher zoom.

This also occurs if you navigate back and forth to the folder.

This only affects the Hardy Alphas.

I tried this on Gutsy, it doesn't have a problem as it never tries to
get a better thumbnail when you increase the zoom level.

When you are testing make sure the images are of wallpaper sizes then
you can really see Nautilus upgrading the original thumbnail.

Then it seems to create a new thumbnail from the original image with the

[Bug 203782] [NEW] Vinagre unusable because of the slowness

[Bug 150379] Re: Nautilus built-in search doesn't work if tracker is disabled

2008-03-10 Thread pt123
If anything it should only be given as a non default option to use a
third party application.

As mentioned above Tracker it is not practical to have Tracker index remote
folders, (in a work environment you will get in serious trouble if pull this
stunt) or your / folder..
Nautilus is a not a simple file manager like Thunar, it can open Network

[Bug 148701] Re: Search function in File browser does not function

2008-02-02 Thread pt123
I don't know if many of the developers have worked in a non IT work environment.
Because in these environments the Project folder and filenames are often used
to differentiate files, not the contents as most companies use templates.

It would also be silly to expect one to index the data from all the
company's projects, as the number of files is so vast.

The old Nautilus (6.10) used to do this beautifully and better than
Windows XP.

The lack of feedback from the developers is very discouraging, and a big
deterrent in reporting future bugs.

How could this be rated as low priority.

It is using Tracker's results when it shouldn't be.
There needs to be an option to let Nautilus not use tracker

If I navigate to a folder and then do a search all I want is results
within the folder.

This is annoying before you could navigate to the /usr/share/icons
folder

and search for contact-new.png and you will get all the varieties of
it in thumbnails.

With this Tracker search you can't expect us to index our root folder.

Also if you search for a general term like you .jpg you will get a
zillion results. While with the old search it was specific to a folder.

This used to be on feature that Ubuntu excelled over XP now its worse,
and useless.

An application called nautilus-search-tool

That lets your right click on folder and search in it. It brings the

But still an option should let you choose what Nautilus search should
