[Bug 1970921] Re: Drag and drop does not work

2023-11-21 Thread Raphael Reumayr
After resizing the windows "drag-n-drop file to web-browser" randomly
works. But ux is a pain in a production environment.

[Bug 1857893] [NEW] Evolution looping using 100% cpu

2019-12-30 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

Possibly one bug, possibly two. At any rate there are two symptoms.

1. Evolution is constantly hogging the whole of one CPU. See attached
screenshot.

2. Evolution is stuck opening a folder. If I try to cancel the open it
just gets stuck in the close. It has been like this for a couple of
weeks now. See attached screenshot.

Neither coondition is cleared by killing and restarting the process.

[Bug 1809443] [NEW] Lock-screen does not enable one to switch keyboard layouts

2018-12-21 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

First, I am not quite sure where the problem lies: in the power manager,
gnome-screensaver or xfce-screensaver.

I use keyboard layouts in more than one alphabet. If the screen-lock
happens when I am using a non-latin alphabet the unlock screen gives me
no way of switching keyboard layouts. I have to use a tty login to kill
the session, or reboot.

Yes, as I discovered later there is a problem in a bad interaction
between lightdm and xscreensaver.

I removed lightlocker a long time back and replaced it with
xscreensaver because lightlocker caused too many problems (don't now
remember what). Replacing lightdm with gdm has eliminated the latest
problem I was having with secondary logins.

So in summary: lightdm+(lightlocker|xscreensaver) - bad;
gdm+xscreensaver - good,  or at least fewer problems.

[Bug 1748748] Re: Evolutiion fails to start. Cannot connect /tmp/dbus-*

2018-02-11 Thread Raphael Mankin
Yet another follow-up:

I did a 'pkill -9 evolution' after which I could start evolution.

After a logout/login evolution would not start. After a pkill it did.
Removing the evolution background servers from the session startup cleared the
problem.

I could then also start evolution automatically at session startup.

[Bug 1660289] [NEW] On waking from sleep laptop does not re-connect to wifi

2017-01-30 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

After waking from a suspend my laptop (Lenovo X1 Carbon) does not always
re-connect to the wifi network. It seems to be consistent in which
networks (access points) it will connect to and which it won't.

I cannot force it to reconnect using the applet to 'connect to hidden
network'. It says that the connection is invalid, and the 'connect'
button is greyed out.

Logout/login does not clear the condition.

After a reboot the machine connects with no problems.

There is a similar problem with *some* new wifi networks in that after
configuring the new connection I have to reboot in order to use it.

[Bug 1569223] Re: Evolution hangs or crashes when deleting an LDAP email address

The contact is deleted, though the 'edit contact' window does not show

[Bug 1569223] [NEW] Evolution hangs or crashes when deleting an LDAP email address

2016-04-12 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

A contact has changed his email address. I added the new address and
then tried to delete the old one. Evolution hung, several times. On
restarting evolution I found that the new address had been inserted, but
that the old one had not been deleted.

After a while I tried again and this time I got crashes rather than
hangs, but still no deletion.

This is using an LDAP address book.

Running evolution in foreground gives:

[Bug 1532138] [NEW] Evolution cannot have two contacts with same email address

2016-01-08 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

If I have to contacts with the same email address evolution crashes when
I add the second one.

Specifically: LDAP address book

The situation is that these are business contacts where a manager uses
his assistant's email address and does not have one of his own. I wish
to have the same email address recorded for both people.

[Bug 1488076] [NEW] Copying/moving an entry from local to ldap addressbook fails

2015-08-24 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

When I try to move or copy an addressbook entry from a local to an LDAP
addressbok I get an 'object class violation' error.

I quite understand why this happens; I suppose that the copy/move has to
be done field by field and not as an object. It means that I have to
manually copy each and every field from the old objects into new ones.

[Bug 1485678] [NEW] Changing full name causes evolution to crash

2015-08-17 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

I am trying to edit a contact's surname. Specifically, I am changing it
from the form 'abcdefg' to 'abc defg' i.e. inserting a space. Evolution
crashes when I try to save the modified record.

It makes no difference whether I edit the 'full name' field or the 'file
under' field.

Repeatable.

A nuisance, but not the end of the world.

[Bug 1103549] Re: Quadrapassel misfunction

2015-06-26 Thread Raphael Treccani-Chinelli
Hello, This is my first time editing here, so I'm unfamiliar with the
ettiquette. i just discovered the bug during a tragic round of tetris. I
downloaded the source code , and read it through, and i believe this is
actually supposed to be a feature. if you go to the preferences menu,
and disable 'Choose difficult blocks' , it appears to have a much more
random block selection. I recognise that it isnt a fix, and i could
probably learn how to compile it and recompile with the option disabled
by default if anyone wants.

Venting out frustrations will not help in getting the bug fixed.
Let us try to be more factual.
You came up with a test case.
Please give your feedback in an orderly way so Canonical and the community
can help.
What version of Ubuntu were you testing.
Which sw did you test and what was the pass/fail status is each one.

rollback exactly the same behavior we had in old versions of Ubuntu, and
the same behavior we have in all other systems: OpenBSD, Windows, Mac

Re: [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-04-03 Thread Raphael das Neves Calvo
Gunnar,

My guess here is based on history but maybe I am wrong
The reason we Brazilians use the US international keyboard so much is
because in the '70s and '80s we didn't have a national industry to cope
with our internal demands for products related to computers. Almost every
single computer we had was imported (leggaly or illegally) from USA or it
was a clone made by our industry based on an US computer model.

Portugal may have had a similar issue (I am especulating here) because they
were also under a dictatorship for some time, but in their case if a
similar situation occurred than they would probably had access to some
design made in Europe instead of something from US. Again, I am
especulating... It is just a theory but Leandro pointed out that he made a
brief research about this issue being relevant to Portuguese people and he
found some links to substantiate the claim that Portugueses would be
benefited from this fix.

As long as we consider setting LC_CTYPE, in any of the ways mentioned in

irrespective of which keyboard layout you use. In other words, the
changed behavior is not conditioned by the use of an English US
international keyboard layout, as Raphael suggested in comment #98. I
assume that this was considered a reasonable behavior for Brazilian
users, considering which physical keyboards are typically used in
 Brazil.

We could propose a change to the libx11 package which adds a
 /usr/share/X11/locale/pt_PT.UTF-8/Compose file. But before proposing
such a change I would like to ask if it would make as much sense for
users living in Portugal as the corresponding Brazilian file makes for
 users living in Brazil.

 * Do users who live in Portugal use an English US international
keyboard layout as often as Brazilian users do, or do they typically
   use some Portuguese keyboard layout?

 * Since the behavior may make typing certain other European languages
more difficult, is that drawback possibly of greater importance for
   users living in Portugal (Europe)?

The only Portuguese locales which are supported in Ubuntu are pt_PT and
 pt_BR.

Re: [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-04-03 Thread Raphael das Neves Calvo
We can find some evidence of what I am saying here about the Latin Code
page for MS-DOS.

http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/KEYB

Here follows a screenshot of the MS-DOS character set setup a.k.a.
codepage).

Note that in the keyboard code in Brazil is Empty... That is because on
that time in history we did not have a keyboard. Only in the 90's that we
standardized a Brazilian keyboard (ABNT2).

You can also note that for EVERY Latin country the carachter set was code
page 437 which in modern versions of MS-DOS (I believe since MS-DOS 5.0)
was superseded by code page 850.

The only thing that changes is the keyboard layout (for countries that had
their own layouts) but the combination of symbols and letters to represent
a new one such as ç was the same independent of the keyboard chosen.

Since in Brazil we did not have a specific keyboard we used the US
International (code 103) with the code page set to 850.

Portugal had their own keyboard layout but if they were using the US
international keyboard layout the behavior was the same as here in Brazil.

... Maybe this help...

Portugal may have had a similar issue (I am especulating here) because
they were also under a dictatorship for some time, but in their case if a
similar situation occurred than they would probably had access to some
design made in Europe instead of something from US. Again, I am
especulating... It is just a theory but Leandro pointed out that he made a
brief research about this issue being relevant to Portuguese people and he
found some links to substantiate the claim that Portugueses would be
 benefited from this fix.

 Kind Regards

Thanks for your comments re pt_PT, Leandro.

As long as we consider setting LC_CTYPE, in any of the ways mentioned in
comment #96, a fix, it should be noted that '+c results in ç
irrespective of which keyboard layout you use.

The only Portuguese locales which are supported in Ubuntu are pt_PT and
 pt_BR.

1) Windows - US International + Br.PT - '+c = ç
2) Windows - US International + EN.US - '+c = 'c
3) Ubuntu - US International + Br.PT - '+c = ć
4) Ubuntu - US International + EN.US - '+c = 'c
My expectation would be to have the behavior #1 == #3 across the whole
environment, i.e., terminal, gedit, libreoffice...

Previous versions and flavors don't need to be fixed, IMHO.
Focus on the next release because we already have workarounds for the
previous releases.

To clarify: As you know, I figured out how to add an alternative
keyboard layout. What I don't know is how you would fix it in xkeyboard-
config so the same dead key behaves differently depending on the letter.

One possibility which we haven't discussed is to use some *other* key
for dead_cedilla, and leave the behavior of the dead_acute key as is. I
see two problems with that, though:

 1. No obvious dispensable key which could be used for the purpose.

 2. It would be a brand new behavior for the users, and different from
how it works on Windows.

2015-01-24 Thread Raphael das Neves Calvo
The UIM workaround works perfectly.

The article brought my attention to the possibility of iBus to be the
culprit.

I downloaded part of the source code from

https://code.google.com/p/ibus/downloads/detail?name=ibus-table-
others-1.2.0.20100512.tar.gzcan=2q=

decompressing theibus-table-others-1.2.0.20100512.tar.gz
I found the compose.txt file.
This file has a conversion table for several sequences of two characters,
including '+c ...

Could someone verify if changing that file in the source would fix the
issue?

Please enhance Rhythmbox to be able to save lyrics to the music file

other audio players (software hardware; such as Exaile, iTunes, iPod,

[Bug 247113]

2011-11-24 Thread Raphael Frey
I know that this comment is not really useful, but I'd like to point out
that, unfortunately, this bug is still not fixed in the newest version
of Poppler (FC15: 0.16.7-1.fc15). I would really appreciate if someone
could try to fix this bug (unfortunately I'm not able to do so) because
due to this bug I cannot use Evince/Okular to print sheet music created
with Lilypond.

[Bug 878614] Re: Nautilus w. nvidia dual monitor (separate x screens) desktop crash.

2011-10-30 Thread Raphael Gradenwitz
I have the same behavior with precise (x64). Twin-View works but with separate
X-screen setup, nautilus crashes when right-clicking on the white background in
the second (hdmi-)screen (:0.1).
Only possible option to use that :0.1 -screen: moving the mouse in that screen
(to move focus to it), open a terminal with Ctrl-Alt-t. Now one can open any
application but nautilus from within that terminal in the second screen.
Nautilus does always open in the first screen (:0.0), even when invoked from
that terminal. Other applications I've tested did open in screen :0.1

[Bug 877735] Re: gnome-panel mix with unity after upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10

2011-10-24 Thread Raphael Camus
Hi,

1-I confirm the bug still exist, but it may be only a configuration issue on my
side.
2-After several tries, I have isolated the config folder that is causing the
problem: ~/.local/share/applications . Means that if I put back all my config
files, I get the bug back. If then I delete that specific folder, the problem
disapears (after logout/login). I can see that on this specific folder I have
some .desktop files. Note that I have re-arranged alacarte menu entries for
that user prior upgrade. Other users on the same box, and another user on
another box for which I did not rearange alacarte do not have the issue.
3-I have upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 (and not from 10.04). Sorry for the
confusion.
4-After my inputs, do you still need me to run apport-collect 877735 ? If so,
I'll do that tomorrow. It is late now in France, I need to sleep

window should tell about what the crash was caused by. Better yet, the
other (default?) crash dialog could be used, the one with the don't
show for this program anymore option. Seeing as it appears so
frequently and seems to affect quite a lot of testers, I don't think
it's invalid...

I opened the sidepane (F9), navigated to the filebrowser and file I
wanted open, and double-clicked it. Then it crashed. Upon trying again
it worked. I've mainly decided to hit the report button since this
happens every couple of minutes in Natty with all sorts of applications,
but always with messages similar to the above. So it seems like it's
more a problem with an underlying library than with GEdit actually.

[Bug 692178] [NEW] Changing status from offline to available is not integrated well to notification area

2010-12-19 Thread Raphael Jolivet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

This is an ergonomic problem.

It is not possible to change the status from offline to available directly
from the notification area menu.
You have to select Instant messaging first in the messages menu (envelope
icon ) : By the way, this is already counter intuitive, as everything about
instant messaging should be in the instant messaging menu (speach bubble
icon).. right ?.

So this shows empathy itself, then you can set the status to available
from there.

In all other cases, You don't need to show empathy itself.
You can just change your status from the quick menu.

I think this should become consistent.

I also think this bug should receive a higher priority. After suspend I
usually have the Time has expired message. Normally this isn't a
problem but recently I had a complete freeze of the system and I
couldn't enter my password at all. I couldn't reproduce this on a
subsequent test though. Even if this bug is unrelated to my freeze up, I
think the Time has expired message is something that many Ubuntu users
have encountered and gives a bad impression

[Bug 686566] [NEW] GTK tooltips appear only after the mouse is moved

Public bug reported:

Hello,

On all GTK tooltips, if the mouse goes to a place on the widget in a
single movement, the tooltip won't show until it is moved again.

This is very noticable when trying to view XKCD's alt-text on Chrome

[Bug 664330] [NEW] Don't hide the option for removing the ubuntu one ribbon

2010-10-21 Thread Noam Yorav-Raphael
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hello,

I upgraded to Maverick, to see a big red band on top of some of my
folders saying that they are not synchronized with Ubuntu One. They look
alarming, and take up a lot of rare vertical space. I tried clicking on
them, but they give no hint on how to make them go away (except for
synchronizing with Ubuntu one, I guess...) I looked through the view
menu, and found no mention of this ribbon. I had to search forums in
order to find that File-Ubuntu One-Hide Ribbon does it.

Really, add a button on the ribbon to hide it. It doesn't smell well
when a commercial product grabs so much attention and doesn't let me
remove it.

Also, there's no point in suggesting to synchronize the downloads
folder, even if I were using Ubuntu One.

Thanks,
Noam

[Bug 624992] [NEW] Changes on editable list items get lost when another widget gets the focus

2010-08-26 Thread Raphael
Public bug reported:

This is a problem i encountered in several applications, e.g. Network
Manager or the gtk file dialog.

How to reproduce:
1. Edit an item in a list view, e.g. ip-adress etc. in the network manager
(without pressing enter)
2. Click into another widget (e.g. test field)

Your changes in the list item are gone.

See the attached screenshots for details.

This problem occurs in many other use cases with editable list items,
e.g. creation of a new folder in the gtk file dialog.

Especially users switching from windows will be irritated, since the
behavior is different there.

Found in 10.04.

[Bug 508890] Re: Nautilus crashes when there are multiple XScreens

2010-08-16 Thread Raphael Gradenwitz
OK. I can confirm that in build 1:2.31.6-0ubuntu3.2 this bug is solved.
Thanks!

Another Issue which is new with dual screen:

Invoking a Nautilus session from a launcher in the start menu or in the
launchbar (panel) on Screen1 (the second screen) opens a window in Screen0 (the
first screen). That looks definitively like a bug since all other applications
are behaving normal (they open in the screen where the menu/panel resides).
When I create a launcher file on the desktop on screen1 (the second screen) and
open it, the window apears on that screen as expected.
Do I have to open another bugreport for that?

[Bug 508890] Re: Nautilus crashes when there are multiple XScreens

2010-08-15 Thread Raphael Gradenwitz
This bug affects me too on a Sony Vayo VGN-Z:

G98 [GeForce 9300M GS]

Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick)
Gnome Release: 2.31.6 2010-08-05 (Ubuntu)
nvidia-current (from ppa) 256.44-0ubuntu1

After login nautilus tries to start but always crashes.

I have to
  $ killall nautilus
by hand

If that does not work, I run it this way:
$ while true; do killall nautilus; done
for some seconds. That works.

The 'bug-buddy' was not able to trace the crash back.

/var/log/messages reports:
Aug 15 14:13:47 vgn-z21mn nautilus: [N-A] Nautilus-Actions Tracker 2.30.2
initializing...
Aug 15 14:13:47 vgn-z21mn nautilus: [N-A] Nautilus-Actions Menu Extender 2.30.2

was attempted by: gdb (pid 8169)

(here the 'kernel' (third) line reports the failing of bug-buddy)

Then I startet a 'sudo nautilus /' it crashed as well and I became the
attached bugreport.

I hope this helps tracing back the problem. I am not sure if this crash of
'sudo nautilus /' has the same reason as the crash of the
'Nautilus Desktop' after login..

[Bug 508890] Re: Nautilus crashes when there are multiple XScreens

2010-08-15 Thread Raphael Gradenwitz
I switch between 1 and 2 Xscreens with a special key on my vaio VGN-Z
wich causes an acpi event. That event links the /etc/X11/xorg.conf to
the one needed for one- or for two X-Screens and restarts the gdm.

I made a workaround to bypass the trouble this bug effects:

I created the file /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default as follows:

--
#!/bin/sh
#
# workaround for bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/nautilus/+bug/508890

show_desktop='true'
grep Screen1 /etc/X11/xorg.conf show_desktop='false'
eval su $USER -c \'gconftool-2 -s /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop
-t bool $show_desktop\'
--

.. and made it executable.

This detects if 1 or two X-screens are driven and activates or
deactivates the /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop option as
required.

hasty.

Sorry for mixing up package names. Of course the bug cannot be in
‘gnome-panel’ because I cannot use the keyboard shortcut [Ctrl] + [Alt]

‘metacity’ resp. in its the default settings. If you use Compiz but want

typing ‘metacity --replace ’ in a console or by turning off desktop
