[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working
Redirecting focus to the actual bug filed here: There is a file called 'libcanberra-logout-sound.sh' in /usr/share/gnome/shutdown that is meant to be run on shutdown. The reason the file is not played is that the piece of code that is meant to be in gnome-session to run all files in the /usr/share/gnome/shutdown directory is not there (it was forgot). Upstream is a patch someone made to fix it and the nautilus developers suggested some changes to the patch. [Bug 62529] Re: Drag and drop of Bookmarks from Places menu copies entire directory instead of creating a link
The reason a folder is being copied is because the DND action is set to copy. Normal launchers work find because the .desktop file is copied. However the Places menu items don't work as they are not .desktop files. [Bug 127315] Re: F-Spot puts photos in Photos folder not Pictures folder
Okay attached is the debdiff that solves this bug. What the patch does if when F-Spot finds that the 'f-spot/import/storage_path' gconf string has not been set yet (basically the first time the user uses the application) it will check: Does the directory 'XDG_PICTURES_DIR/Photos' exist? (this all translates, so in Spanish this would be Imágenes/Fotos) If it does not, then F-Spot will create the directory, if it does, then it continues. Finally F-Spot will set the default storage path for the users Photos to be: 'XDG_PICTURES_DIR/Photos' I have tested this patch thoroughly and it builds + works perfectly on Karmic. The patch also fixes a few debian packaging things. [Bug 127315] Re: F-Spot puts photos in Photos folder not Pictures folder
On the upstream bug report, many of the people were saying they wanted it in Pictures/Photos as users may want to keep backgrounds etc. separate, in all the patches at that upstream bug, the directory was Pictures/Photos They also said the Pictures/F-Spot was definitely not what they wanted. Another reason to do it Pictures/Photos is that F-Spot starts putting folders like 2009 etc. in the folder, which would not mix well with things such as backgrounds that cannot have a date. Also if you look at F-Spot's tag line, 'photo management software' you can see what it is designed for. I appreciate the concern you have, however this definitely seems the way upstream also wants to go. -- F-Spot puts photos in Photos folder not Pictures folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127315 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I think the bets way to go forward is to by default have the 'Collection' button in the toolbar, this way it is very easy to activate. The reason I say this is because at the moment, eog is used as a quick image viewer. For this purpose it does not need the collection pane as eog is typically used for viewing one image, and then closed. Any comments? [Bug 388303] Re: Eye of Gnome should have Image Collection enabled by default
Attached is a debdiff that adds the Collection button to the toolbar by default Reasoning: The 'Collection' feature (as seen here : http://pokornypavel.cz/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/eye-of-gnome.png) is a very useful feature. Not only is it additional eyecandy, but it allows a user to see a lot more easily the pictures in a directory. The person filing the bug report suggested having the view enable by default however I don't think this is the best way forward. Ubuntu typically uses EOG as a quick picture viewer (you can see this by how it is hidden in the Applications menu), not for showing slideshows or a number of pictures (this is what F-Spot is for). If we set the collection view as default this would be adding bloat not needed for it's purpose, however because the collection view is so good, I feel that we should make the user more aware of it's existence. The patch puts the button on the toolbar by default, allowing the user to see the collection view. This patch simplifies the step of looking at the collection view from 4 clicks a drag to one click. ** Attachment added: eog_2.27.90-0ubuntu2.debdiff http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30425553/eog_2.27.90-0ubuntu2.debdiff ** Changed in: eog (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = In Progress -- Eye of Gnome should have Image Collection enabled by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/388303 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 204567] Re: downloads should go to $HOME/Downloads : XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR should be set to $HOME/Downloads
@Conn, sorry made a mistake, set the wrong status. The Status is now set correctly. As regards to the debate, the user WILL knw where their downloads are, Firefox by default will go to the Downloads folder, but the user can also select another location in the file chooser if they wish. They can therefore see that the folder will be the Downloads folder, and so I don't even feel it is neccessary to make a Bookmark for it. Also with another papercut being fixed, the xdg folders will now have icons, so it is even more obvious to the user where the download folder is. This method of not saving everything to their desktop also gets the user in a better habit of not clogging up their Desktop, but also getting used the ne concept of the 'Home Folder' if coming from another OS, I know this is one concept that I had to work out and so having a different folder for Downloads encourages the user to browse around a look at the file/folder structure of their home directory. Conn is also right when he says *Just to illustrate the current lack of cohesion, the default image management application (F-Spot) doesn't even use the Pictures folder by default, it tries to save to a non-existent Photos folder... This was a papercut which has now been fixed and so we should do the same wioth this bug. It is a non-standard place to save downloads and we should correct it. -- downloads should go to $HOME/Downloads : XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR should be set to $HOME/Downloads https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204567 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 204567] Re: downloads should go to $HOME/Downloads : XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR should be set to $HOME/Downloads
I believe setting ~/Downloads as the Downloads directory is the best option. Desktop is for shortcuts/important files. It just gets cluttered (the opposite of what the default Ubuntu install does). [Bug 389117] [NEW] gedit - not standard redo keybinding
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit All the GTK apps I have ever used have used the standard keybinding Ctrl+Y to execute a redo function. This is also true for any user coming form Windows. For some odd reason, gedit decides to use Ctrl+Shift+Z. Not only is this non-standard, but for a fairly well used function, why does the user need to awkwardly select three keys? This is just confusing and should be fixed ** Affects: hundredpapercuts Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gedit - All the GTK apps I have ever used have used the stanrd keybinding Ctrl+Y - to execute a redo function. [Bug 326258] Re: gconf-editor - Ugly Key Type Icons
I don't think the way I patched it was correct, and so I think if you want to use it for Hundered Papercuts, you should Use the icons here (not mine but GPLv2): http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=104021 -- gconf-editor - Ugly Key Type Icons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326258 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gconf-editor in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 326258] Re: gconf-editor - Ugly Key Type Icons
This does most certainly *does* have a win. When a new user uses the LiveCD, most often they look through all the menus first, when they see an ugly icon like the one on gnome-pilot, it makes Ubuntu itself look lagging behind, like things haven't been updated. Also it makes it look unprofessional, have really out of the place icons. The patch that I have given, makes the menu icon use the generic scanner icon from the current gtk icon theme or fall back on the gnome-icon- theme. This has the advantage of given the 'PDA Devices' menu entry looking in place (ie. tango icon styled) and not look outdated. Also, if the user then changes the icon theme, this changes accordingly, if the icon theme has a scanner icon. Although ideally, we should also change the application icons (ie. the ones that the software uses for about dialog etc.), this is a first step towards replacing them. -- gconf-editor - Ugly Key Type Icons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326258 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gconf-editor in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Therefore I shall subscribe the ubuntu-main-sponsors again, and would ask that either my patch is added into the package or the new upstream version is packaged (if that becomes stable and get's released in time) -- gconf-editor - Ugly Key Type Icons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326258 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gconf-editor in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 326258] Re: gconf-editor - Ugly Key Type Icons
Ignore all above!!! I am going to have to disagree with you there Sebastian. I feel as though these icons should not be packaged in the icon theme. gconf-editor is the only application to use these icons, and so unnecessary ones should not be included in the icon theme. I believe that is why gconf-editor did this in the past, and why it still does it, therefore I have replaced them with tango-style icons, just as all gnome programs are trying to do with their icons. I shall try and speak to you and then resolve whether this should be subscribed. -- gconf-editor - Ugly Key Type Icons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326258 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gconf-editor in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
