[Bug 351429] Re: file-roller associates itself with windows executables that it can't handle

2012-02-20 Thread turbolad
Does this same bug result in the Minecraft java (.jar) file being opened
with the Archive Manager, instead of OpenJDK, when the .jar file is
double left-clicked?

[Bug 935019] [NEW] Quadrapassel: pause and resume option bug

2012-02-18 Thread turbolad
Public bug reported:

The Resume option is sometimes labelled as Pause when you wish to
resume a paused game; it should be labelled Resume when the game is
paused, and labelled Pause when you are playing the game and wish to
pause it.

This occurs when you click out of its window and the game pauses - which it's
meant to do.
When you go in the Game menu to Resume the game, you have to click on
Pause to do so.

[Bug 846035] [NEW] Evolution: clicking on a mailto link and clicking Send leaves the message in the Outbox instead of sending it

2011-09-09 Thread turbolad
Public bug reported:

When Evolution is the default e-mail program, it will be invoked when
you click on a mailto link in a website. When you compose a message
and click Send, Evolution just closes and leaves the message in the
Outbox. The only way to send the message is to open Evolution, click
on the Outbox and then click on Send / Receive.

I can definitely confirm this is a bug because this was originally
posted on the Ubuntu Brainstorm website and was rejected as it's a bug
in Evolution.

[Bug 839433] [NEW] MIDI files don't play properly: sound is different to what it should be

2011-09-02 Thread turbolad
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit.
Totem version 2.32.0

When playing MIDI files in Ubuntu, they play totally different compared
to playing the same MIDI files in Windows. The MIDI files are playing
wrong. The media player then carries on running forever after the MIDI
sound has been played from start to finish, but you can close Totem
afterwards as it does not freeze in any way.

If you don't have any MIDI files to test this bug, the vgmusic site has
many MIDI recordings of video game tunes and you can try playing them in
Windows and Ubuntu. I dual-boot both Windows 7 and Ubuntu - that's how
I discovered this problem.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 783130] Re: Missing users on Ubuntu login screen

I've tried the file edit recommended by LordFarquaad and it has NOT solved the
problem.
Users are missing on the login screen - except the first user created during
Ubuntu installation.

[Bug 783130] Re: Missing users on Ubuntu login screen

2011-08-16 Thread turbolad
Thanks for the information. I've managed to move the file into /etc/gdm
with the IncludeAll=true in the [greeter] section. I had to search
online to see how to move a file using the terminal, but I've done it
now and I'll see if this fixes the problem.

Thanks for your help.

I've noticed that if Ubuntu boots up a little slower, then all the users
appear on the login screen. If Ubuntu boots up faster, there's only the
one user on the login screen i.e. the user account created first during
Ubuntu installation.

I will try the suggestion posted by LordFarquaad now.

2011-08-06 Thread turbolad
@Jonathan A. Marshall

I installed Ubuntu onto my new PC back in April and the hardware has not
changed at all. I still have this problem with the login screen. There
are 3 user accounts and I regularly see the other names are missing,
just my name is showing. Then other times all 3 usernames are on the
login screen.

It's an intermittent problem.

[Bug 815817] [NEW] Evolution does not show password dialogue when clicking on a mailto link

2011-07-25 Thread turbolad
Public bug reported:

If you have setup evolution and forgot to put the password in the SMTP

This problem affects me and others. It's annoying when I have to share

I do get the feeling that Ubuntu are not fixing bugs as quickly as is
claimed with open source software, such as security flaws being fixed
within hours of being discovered.

Same problem here. Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. The workaround is to hold

[Bug 578339] Re: 2nd hard drive never powers down

I changed a value in the hdparm.conf file a long time ago to fix the
problem. I don't know if this bug is fixed in Maverick. You would need
to test it in a computer with 2 hard drives and make sure the second one
switches off.

[Bug 515139] Re: Icons from gnome panel are missing at random on startup

2010-07-28 Thread turbolad
I'm having these same problems on Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. Sometimes when
you boot up, icons go missing or don't fit properly, other times
everything is there.

Sometimes the power button disappears and I have to go into a terminal
and type sudo poweroff just to switch off my computer.

Until we wait for a bugfix from the updater, is there a way of going
into the terminal and re-loading the Gnome Panel so the icons re-appear
properly?

THIS IS DEFINITELY A BUG and it's been around since I first started
using Ubuntu just under a year ago. This problem still happens quite
often.

I've not had time to read the 65 posts above, but I've experienced this

I hope someone can fix it for all Ubuntu/Linux users. It seems weird
that numlock sometimes moves the mouse instead of being a number pad.
I've not knowingly pressed SHIFT and num lock at the same time neither
have I changed the keyboard settings to affect this.

[Bug 578339] [NEW] 2nd hard drive never powers down

2010-05-10 Thread turbolad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Hi

My second hard disk no longer powers down. In the Power Management
options, I have ticked the box Spin down hard disks when possible.
Until recently, it would switch off my second hard drive. Now it
doesn't switch it off! I know power management works on Ubuntu because
I have my display switch off after 10 minutes of no activity - this part
works.

How can I fix this problem? Please help.

[Bug 525284] Re: Brasero freezes the whole system when blanking a CDRW.

2010-04-06 Thread turbolad
I've been told this is similar to another bug: CD/DVD not recognised
after being blanked.

As I don't have any more blank discs, I cannot provide you with any more
information at the moment.

Please try using Brasero on as many Ubuntu systems as possible,
especially 64-bit ones (I'm using 64-bit Ubuntu), hopefully you will
find out more.

Cheers.

[Bug 525284] [NEW] Brasero freezes the whole system when blanking a CDRW.

2010-02-21 Thread turbolad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Tried fully blanking (un-ticked Fast blanking) a CDRW. Ubuntu 9.10
(64-bit) seemed to freeze - the screen went blank, the mouse was
working, but nothing else would happen.

I have reported problems in the past about DVDRW and CDRW type discs not
being recognised after being blanked - maybe this problem is related to
that?

How do you kill a non-responding program in Linux? I was able to press
the CTRL ALT and F1 keys and get a command screen, but couldn't
kill Brasero as I don't know how to. In the end, I had to hit the reset
button on my PC.

Yes, the hardware in my computer is working fine, no problems of any
kind.

[Bug 497232] [NEW] Does not recognise DVDRW after being blanked

2009-12-15 Thread turbolad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Once I blank a DVDRW using Brasero, the DVD drive is no longer
recognised. Blank discs are just not recognised or usable by any CD/DVD
writing tool in Ubuntu. I also suspect blank discs are being formatted
at the wrong capacity. I know the DVD drive works properly in Windows.
