Could I suggest that you add some configuration setting somewhere since I agree with teh privacy issue, but also think this is useful for folks who don't mind having some notifications? Just a thought to make it easier for some folks that may not remember to make the suggestion you posted. Enabling of lock screen notifications requires gnome-control-center 3.6, which is not shipped with quantal. yeh, I believe its just rhythmbox for now.
