My Gnome terminal also has a solid background on launch, and only by either tweaking settings or using the Help -> About workaround will bring the transparency back. Bug not properly fixed Running ubuntu gnome (15.04 up to date) using numix gnome theme and enabled dark theme in prferences. The transparency is not active. I have the same problem. I read that the developers had removed transparency, but I imagine ubuntu team search a workaround to see transparency on terminal. When I select about from the menú help I will see transparency. It's strange. I hope to solve this problem, becouse I working with transparency. In Terminal if you select Help and About you will see Transpancy working as expected.
