No, as of gdm version 2.20.0-0ubuntu2 the theme changing is fixed. Here is the content of /etc/gdm, output of ls -la /etc/gdm and the dpkg --set-selections list of the install where the theme change is completly ignored. Here are the outputs of strace gdmsetup 21 | tee gdm-debug.log from both machines. Symptoms on desktop-install machine: gdm-theme is set to 'Happy-GNOME' /with/ face browser, although face browser is disabled and 'Happy-Gnome' /without/ face browser is selected. Background colour is default milky brown from 'Human', although light grey is set. I have this issue on 2 different systems. Both are fresh installs and up-to-date. One system is a server-install and ubuntu-desktop on top, the other is a plain Deskop CD install. On the desktop install machine the theme change worked, but the background colour is not correct (although set to black, it still shows that milky brown from the Human theme). The server install insist on using he Human theme, no matter what i set in the gdmsetup-applet.
