[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape
Hello Matt, or anyone else affected, Accepted mutter into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed- focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification- failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. ** Tags removed: verification-done verification-done-focal ** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874567 Title: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1874567/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape
I installed the mutter libraries from focal proposed as described in #15 and the issue seems to be fixed. Also copied my ~/.config/monitors.xml to /var/lib/gdm/.config/monitors.xml and was able to get the same monitor configuration working at the login screen. Regarding bug mentioned in Side note 2 of #20 Comment (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1874567/comments/20) I face the same issue, and am able to fix it via the fractional scaling method. [Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape
Thank you for fixing this bug. Installing mutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 and libmutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 from focal-proposed has resolved this issue for me. Note: The updated libmutter from focal-proposed also had to be explicitly installed by me, as it was not automatically pulled in when updating mutter. Steps: 1) Enabled focal-proposed 2) apt update 3) apt install mutter libmutter 4) Disabled focal-proposed 5) Removed ~/.config/monitors.xml and ~gdm/config/monitors.xml 6) Rebooted 7) After login, I successfully applied my desired monitor configuration (changing the primary monitor and setting other monitor to portrait orientation). Side notes: 1) I still had to copy ~/.config/monitors.xml to ~gdm/.config/monitors.xml for the correct primary monitor and orientation to be set on the login screen. 2) After applying the display configuration, the icons in the top-right of the gnome panel appeared blured (network/bluetooth). This was resolved by applying 150% fractional scaling and then applying 100% scaling again in the gnome display settings. I haven't had time to reproduce this to know if it's a one-off or ongoing bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874567 Title: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1874567/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape
Found in a post on Reddit, a workaround that worked for me via GUI. Even though this is still a bug I wanted to help this workaround get more exposure. ``` Just installed 20.04. Same issue. But i have a workaround that doesn't involve manual settings with xrandr. If i set them so that all monitors align at the bottom, it works as expected. This makes for a bit of wonky cursor movement screen-to- screen, but it's usable for now until it gets fixed. Something about the nvdidia driver seems to not be able to map the position to any other configuration. It does not work if for me if I align them all at the top, only with them all aligned at the bottom. [Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape
I also logged https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics- drivers-340/+bug/1876551 about nvidia-340 drivers having the same problem (won't remember the config). My workaround is a .desktop file that calls xrandr with my desired parameters I configured with nvidia tool and then dumped out with xrandr. ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-340 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874567 Title: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1874567/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape
Hello folks. I experience this issue with my three monitor setup (two of which are vertical) using NVIDIA Drivers 440.82 on PopOS 20.04. Monitor layout works with xrandr/arandr and if I hand craft manitors.xml, configuration is preserved. I have posted my details here https://github.com/pop-os/pop/issues/933#issuecomment-643681670 But GUI doesn't work. Also after recovering from suspend layout explodes again. I would be glad to help with investigation, collecting logs, traces, etc (feel free to DM me). ** Bug watch added: github.com/pop-os/pop/issues #933 https://github.com/pop-os/pop/issues/933 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874567 Title: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1874567/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
