to me this whole extra address book for syncing seems like a totally broken system. but maybe I'm not getting the concept. I too got the issues with duplicate entries and entries missing in my google account. But besides that there is something I'm still not able to fully understand. When I started using Evolutions I've created e.g. some address books e.g. work, suppliers, friends, family ... where I stored my contacts. Changing the DNS servers to google DNS did also solve this problem for me. I'm in Canada and was alternating between Rogers' Cable DNS servers and OpenDNS, neither of which work properly. Good news: I was able to identify the root cause of, and therefore solve, this problem. As mentioned in an earlier post, we were having this problem with only one of our PCs running 9.10, but not with the others. After a bit of poking around, we noticed that the Internet connection on the PC having this problem was using Comcast's DNS servers, whereas the others were using various other DNS servers. Not expecting much, we changed the DNS servers on that PC to Google's public DNS servers (http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns), and, voilà, problem solved. We can reproduce the problem by changing the DNS servers back to Comcast's, so there appears to be something wrong with Comcast's DNS servers. Specifically, it appears that some HTTP requests to google's service are not being correctly directed. Or perhaps it's something worse: it's entirely possible that Comcast's DNS servers may have been hijacked by a third party which is intercepting requests to google...? I don't know, but for safety's sake, we've decided to avoid Comcast's DNS servers here. If you are experiencing this problem, try changing your DNS servers. We're having the same problem with one of our PCs running 9.10, but not on others. Thanks for the tips Sebastien, After upstream discussion, I am beginning to believe that something in the upgrade process is causing this issue: I have a laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 32-bit) and a desktop (9.10 64-bit), both having been upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04--8.10--9.04--9.10, and both exhibit this same problem. On both the desktop and laptop, I tried several users, including a brand new clean user just to test this problem. This clean new user exhibits the problems I described in the original bug report. However, on the desktop computer, I have a clean partition that I installed Ubuntu 9.10 beta onto. This problem is not exhibited in Evolution on the fresh install of ubuntu 9.10 beta on that separate partition. I'm therefore led to the conclusion that something in the upgrade history is preventing proper google sync.
