[Bug 488244] Re: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong
I also can confirm that this is still an issue in natty. Besides the fact that several settings dialogs are too high to fit on the screen - making it rather hard to hit the buttons on the bottom (requires maximizing and even then the dialogs behave strangly, scrolling up or down on any click inside so that you have to use tab and enter to press the buttons) - the main screen also behaves utterly strange; I can not resize the window splitting (grabbing the splitter has no effect) and quite often simple actions like changing the folder might result in misplacement of groups of UI elemnts. Screen resolution is 1024x600 using Unity. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488244 Title: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 488244] Re: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong
This seems as a close resemblence to a problem occuring in Natty-release as well. Cannot check tick-boxes or type in in the different fields because of automatic re-alignment on the screen. Seems as a new feature in Natty to accomodate bigger resolution apps on smaller screen resolutions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488244 Title: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 488244] Re: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong
This bug affects me to. On two computers. The first computer is a netbook with 1024x600 resolution. In Ubuntu 10.10 desktop this gets so bad I can't use evolution at all. If I maximize the window, every time I try to click on something the entire window jumps a big step. And if I unmaximize it a large portion of the application can't be seen, and the window can't be resized any smaller. The same computer on Ubuntu 10.04 desktop has the same behavior, but the jump is much smaller. And in unmaximized mode it's just a little bit of the window that can't be seen, and I can still use evolution. The second computer is a 15 laptop with 1366x768 resolution (very common nowadays). In Ubuntu 10.04 desktop it works perfectly, but in Ubuntu 10.10 desktop I have some problems. The main windows works well, but the settings-window jumps quite much. And if I unmaximize it I can't see the Close-button. I find this bug quite annoying, and I'm guessing it affects a lot of laptop and netbook users. I can't understand why the importance of this bug is set to low, when I'm guessing that every single netbook user can't use evolution at all in Ubuntu 10.10 desktop, and is forced to either downgrade to Ubuntu 10.04, or uninstall evolution and install Thunderbird instead (Thunderbird works perfectly). -- Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 488244] Re: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong
I also encountered this bug with Maverick using Evolution 2.30.3 (English version). Also on an Acer Aspire One, mine has an 8.9 inch screen using 1024x600 resolution. Kaizer's workaround to disable the buttons did the trick for me, thanks. -- Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 488244] Re: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong
I think this is due to the switcher buttons. I am using 10.10/Maverick on Acer AspireOne and found this workaround - Click on View - Switcher Appearance. Disable Show Buttons. The window will stop jumping :) You can use the Alt-V, S, B, B Enter combination if your window is already jumping and you don't feel like restarting Evolution. -- Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 488244] Re: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong
I'm having this problem on a Maverick install in English. It seems to occur whenever a window stretches past the available space on the netbook. [Bug 488244] Re: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong
I did some experiment by using different translations for the Calendar Toolbar, in particular for the long Work week that turns into Semaine de travail in French and it solves the issue. So my conclusion is that it is the fact that the toolbar extends beyond the displayable area that causes the problem. All we can expect is tighter translations, I guess! Alternatively, we can get wider screens... Mine is 1024x600 and one could think the reduced height could be causing trouble, but not so here! In practice, I don't know how to suggest a change in translation to the appropriate team. I would propose using Semainier instead of Semaine de travail in French and that would do the trick. Anyone knows who deals with translations of Evolution into French? -- Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 488244] Re: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong
It's probably worth noting that I also use the Toobar and in French it doesn't fit and extends beyond the displayable area. If I could, I would make some changes to the French version, to cut down the Work Week from Semaine de travail to something smaller and check if it still does it. I wouldn't mind doing some local experiment, if someone could point me in the right direction. -- Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Problem still exists in 10.4 Lucid. I just tried to reproduce the problem in Spanish but it works fine in that language too. i cannot reproduce that here, may you give some easy steps in order to ? btw is that reproducible on a normal ubuntu desktop? [Bug 488244] Re: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong
Hi Pedro, As I tried to reproduce the issue in running an English session to make sure I use terms that you recognize, I found out it doesn't occur! I only have the problem running a French session. So I suspect the translation has an impact. Here are the steps to reproduce anyways: 1) Start evolution on the Mail page. OK 2) Click on the Calendars button in the switcher to go to the Calendars page. OK 3) Click on the Mail button in the switcher to go to the Mail page. NOK or 1) Start evolution on the Mail page. OK 2) Ctrl+3 to switch to Calendars. OK 3) Ctrl+ to switch back to Mail. NOK The window in no longer maximized as it was initially, but the right border extends outside of the display panel and the top of the window area has moved down by the size of the menu bar as shown in attached image Evolution-Mail-2.png BTW, if you start evolution from the panel (indicator-applet) it starts on the mail page, while if you use the evolution icon on the menu/launcher it restarts where you left off the last time. In any case, it looks like it is the Calendars page that corrupts the windows sizing. I hope this all makes sense! Would you like me to try this in another language, like Spanish? Otherwise I do not have the problem on my desktop. -- Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
