It may be difficult to fix because it must be approached form each-and- every-project, but I'd like to point out that it might not be that hard to do a quick and dirty workaround...just have some recursive check system that ensures that entires in the menu don't have the same name. I work around this very easily by deleting references in /home//.local/share/applications that are associated with the duplicate entries. I have to do this EVERY TIME I install a new program in wine, and while yes it may be a wine issue Ubuntu can issue a temporary fix for it. Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue , in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install , that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of the project. this is a complex issue and connot be fixed easily. I'm not sure that original change was ever intended to fix this issue. g_app_info_should_show() returns TRUE or FALSE based on the combinations of the OnlyShowIn and NotShowIn keys in the desktop file, and the current desktop environment.
