Resurfacing ancient bug? I've been getting this behaviour occasioanally in 13.04 (whatever was the latest and official version of nautilus in it) and now in 13.10 too with nautilus 1:3.8.2-0ubuntu2. Also exactly same symptoms to post #4, when files are being created from an external program and whether or not Nautilus is running while that happens. Restarting with 'nautilus -q' solves the problem until it reappears again. I encounter a similar bug. For me, Nautilus often requires a refresh before new files/folders show up. This appears to happen only if the files/folders are created by an external program (creating a file/folder in Nautilus correctly triggers a refresh of the view). Same architecture.
