Official support for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx (desktop version), Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat and Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot has ended. I can confirm that this is still an issue on Maverick. Tested with an MKV with embedded subtitles -- I get the italics tag instead of text displayed in italics.
