[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus
I tried to get Beryl working, changed Gnome theme, switched back to a Gnome session and I can't get focus. The same problem with Alt+Tab and all that. I'll reinstall metacity to see what would happen. -- Window don't get focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/59068 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus
I add this: I installed qemu and kqemu following this guide: http://tech.tolero.org/blog/en/linux/qemu-9-and-kqemu-for-ubuntu-dapper- edgy-feisty Reinstalling metacity and metacity-common didn't solve the problem. :-( I had this bug when this started to fail: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419801 I hope this info could be usefull. -- Window don't get focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/59068 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus
Please ignore all my past comments... this is a xmodmap issue. I erased this line from my session startup programs: xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.la And I've got focus as normal. I hope this info could be useful. :-D I had added this line to get my keyboard working under Beryl. -- Window don't get focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/59068 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus
The solution does not work anymore. The problem came back after I switched my session to enlightenment and then back to gnome. Removing .gnome2 folders doesn't solve the issue anymore. To summarize the situation : - Alt+tab from Window A to Window B doesn't put focus on window B - to get the focus, I have to click on the window title bar. - Ctrl+Alt+tab to switch virtual desktop doesn't work anymore. - recreating the shortcut in system preferences keyboard shortcuts doesn't resolve anything The links provided here seems to describe somehow a similar problem : - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=287880 - https://blueprints.launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bug/58010 -- Window don't get focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/59068 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus
I forgot to tell that I work with Xinerama and a Dual Screen Config and 4 virtual screens and a NVIDIA gfx card. Maybe this will give hints as you'll see later. So after several tests I found a way to get rid of the problem. As I previously explained, closing and opening a gnome session make the problem come back. - So I open a new gnome session. - I open any application and then a terminal window on my left screen. - I try Alt+tab but it doesn't work yet. - I drag my windows to my right screen - I retry Alt-tab but it still doesn't work. - I open an ssh or mysql DISTANT connection in my terminal window. - I drag my terminal window from right screen to left screen and then... both my screens blink, as if refreshing themselves and that's it : Alt-tab works again. - By the way Ctrl+Alt+tab work again. I can make more tests, or provide with any conf file if needed. I can tell you that Alt+tab not working is a real productivity killer when you're used to work with the keyboard at 99% (I switch from vim to firefox a thousand times a day to develop my apps, so this is quite annoying ). I think this bug importance should have been listed as medium at least. -- Window don't get focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/59068 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus
The same problem rose after I upgraded to Ubuntu Edgy. And I had another problem linked to this issue : my alt+tab and ctrl+alt+tab didn't work. I solved this issue by renaming all my .gnome and .gnome2 pref folders thus forcing gnome to recreate them. -- Window don't get focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/59068 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

could you describe some steps to get the issue? -- Window don't get focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/59068 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus
Opening it on gnome-menus seems to have been a launchpad bug. Actually I did choose gnome. I have this problem on edgy - the window preferences are default. -- Window don't get focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/59068 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus
Thanks for your bug. You opened it on gnome-menus, do you have that issue with the panel menu? What version of Ubuntu do you use? What focus settings do you use (System, Preferences, Windows)? ** Changed in: gnome-menus (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: gnome-menus = metacity Importance: Untriaged = Low Assignee: (unassigned) = Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info -- Window don't get focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/59068 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus
I have the same problem. I realized that while using the glade-software which has many single windows and edit boxes. the cursor is blinking in the edit box but you can't type something. when you left the cursor in the edit box and click the header of the window, the edit box gets editable. but it's not a problem of glade cause I had this problem in other gnome apps and with other content elements too. -- Window don't get focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/59068 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
