[Bug 607708] Re: Nautilus is generally slow
The bug is old and Ubuntu changed quite a lot since, there has also been no activity here nor similar reports. Closing since we believe the issue as described is deprecated but feel free to file a new report if you still have problems in recent Ubuntu versions. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607708 Title: Nautilus is generally slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/607708/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 607708] Re: Nautilus is generally slow
I reopened the bug report because this is still an issue and has not changed over the last three Ubuntu releases (Karmic to Maverick). I am currently running Ubuntu Maverick on a Intel i5 quad core CPU and Nautilus is still extremely slow to open. The first time Nautilus opens a folder it takes about 2-3 seconds until the window finally shows up. Also, as Mohamed pointed out above, folders that contain a large number of files are very slow to load, and take at least 5 seconds, even on this machine. I have tested this on a wide variety of systems, from high end desktop PCs (= quad core) to laptops (= dual core 1.6 mhz) to netbooks (single core atom cpus), in various Linux distributions (Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.10, Fedora 12 and SUSE 11.2) and in 32 as well as 64 bit architectures, and I can confirm that this is not hardware related as Nautlius is very slow in all these configurations. Nautilus is typically slower by a ratio of 2:1 to 3:1 when compared to Windows Explorer (Windows 7) on dual boot systems. This is very much an issue considering that there are many fine Linux file managers out there that outperform Nautilus by far. Please let me know if I can provide any more information. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Expired = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607708 Title: Nautilus is generally slow -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 607708] Re: Nautilus is generally slow
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions: 1. Is this reproducible? 2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as detailed as possible. This will help us to find and resolve the problem. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Nautilus is generally slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

do you have the issue without appmenu-gtk installed or in use? -- Nautilus is generally slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 607708] Re: Nautilus is generally slow
1. Is this reproducible? Yes, it is. 2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as detailed as possible. Like I said, this occurs with every folder I open, with the exception of *very* tiny folders (like folders with one file only). If this can help: I tested both the nvidia and nouveau drivers without noticeable changes. Therefore, it is not related to X. -- Nautilus is generally slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Uninstalling appmenu-gtk didn't help. (btw, I'm not using unity - just wanted to test it and forgot to remove it) On Tue, Jul 20, 2010 at 3:59 PM, Sebastien Bacher seb...@ubuntu.com wrote: do you have the issue without appmenu-gtk installed or in use? -- Nautilus is generally slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607708 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- Nautilus is generally slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
