I experience this bug sometimes when I leave my computer on over the
night. For the first time I open the calendar applet it still highlights
the previous day. Closing and opening the applet again updates the
highlight.

Also, I don't use evolution. I've removed it with:

sudo apt-get purge evolution

Running
dpkg -l|grep -i evolution
shows some evolution packages: evolution-common evolution-data-server 
evolution-data-server-common evolution-plugins evolution-webcal
