I am still not sure if suspend has just gotten much more unreliable on my laptop in 11.10 or if it is an artifact of the missing lid close option/functionality. I did find this script http://fedora.rasmil.dk/blog/?p=208 that adds gsettings for lid close actions. This seems to effect gnome-power-managers actions on lid close, but suspend still seems less reliable than 11.10.
