I am affected with 11.10. I just discovered that my Rhythmbox used 1.8 GB of memory. I then killed it and started it again. I notice that skipping to or playing a new song eats up memory. If I skip to a next song, about 25 MB of memory are consumed and not properly released anymore. So if I click on --| fast for four times in a row, around 100 MB are consumed without one of the skipped songs is actually played. I will take a look with another system, which has 12.04 installed. According to Jonathan Matthew, the current main developer of Rhythmbox, GNOME git commits '3dec1ff, fc1e8ca, 7ea940f and 7cdf4cd fix even more leaks'. See gnome bug #677738 for the full list. Can Ubuntu 12.04 LTS users expect these very important patches for the *default* media player to reach their systems in the nearest future? It is claimed in the upstream report that a number of recent commits (4 in total since 2.97 so far) fix even more of 'huge leaks.' I would like to kindly ask you to consider backporting them to Precise. I don't think the memory leak is related to the GStreamer backend. It could be related to in-memory album art caching. I am experiencing the same problem. I opened up system monitor one day to find Rhythmbox was using 1.8 GB of RAM. Yup. This is with all plugins and crossfading backend disabled, too. It *looks like* its caching the song in memory, and never releasing it - memory usage goes up every time there is a song change, be it natural or prompted (ff/rewind buttons).
