[Bug 53452] Re: Nautilus generates missfont.log while generating PDF thumbnails in opened folder

2006-07-21 Thread istoyanov
It turned out that *not* .pdf, but .dvi files cause the missfont.log
file to appear in the user's home folder while (? evince-thumbnailer)
was trying to create a thumbnail. In search for more example .dvi files
I downloaded the AUCTeX manual[1] that also generates the mentioned .log
file and (to my suprise) couldn't[2] be opened by evince.

[Bug 53498] Mounted drives are missing in the iso save dialogue

2006-07-21 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Public bug reported:

Using Dapper - fully updated.

Steps:
1) Insert CD
2) Right-click and select Copy Disc
3) Choose file image and click ok
4) In the save dialogue, the Places (e.g. other partitions) are missing.

One can still save to the partitions by going through Filesystem to
the /media directory, but it is inconsistent with all other save

[Bug 53568] Re: [Bug 53568] Re: [Edgy] python-distutils class assumes pycentral if DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM not defined

2006-07-21 Thread Sami Haahtinen
Jérémie Corbier wrote:
Therefore if you try to build a package following the new python policy
 (e.g. if there's a debian/pycompat file) and without defining
DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM the build will fail. If cdbs can't find a clue about
whether the package follows the new or the old policy and if
DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM is not defined then the package will be built
following the old policy (and it will display a big fat warning ;))

Actually, this is wrong.

It will display a big fat warning (as it should) and it attempts to
build without the new system, but even still it will call dh_pycentral.
if you take a look at the patch, it will become quite obvious why this
happens. The cdbs makefile only tests if DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM matches
pysupport and assumes that pycentral is the only other logical choice
without taking in to account that there might be cases where this if
clauses are hit without DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM being defined.

So, even if cdbs is supposed to fall back to building with the old
system, it will build with an uninitialized pycentral support instead.

[Bug 38574] Re: [Bug 38574] Re: Pb syncing treo 650 on dapper drake

2006-07-21 Thread Robert W. Brewer
Thanks for the helpful responses. My first 2.6.17.6 kernel did have some
config issues which prevented me from seeing the normal boot messages.
I went through almost every option now and think I have something decent.
I also did more experiments with gpilotd and pilot-link.

gpilotd now does a full sync reliably. But only if I start it by manually from
the command line. After the sync is completed, it seems to hang, and
I cannot perform another sync. If I then kill gpilotd and start it again
manually, I can then perform another sync. Perhaps related to this,
/dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1 still exist long after my palm device
has disconnected from the bus as long as gpilotd is running. As
soon as I kill gpilotd, those entries disappear. I have setup udev
to create a /dev/pilot symlink to /dev/ttyUSB1. I reconfigured gpilotd
to use /dev/pilot instead of /dev/ttyUSB1 directly and saw the same
behavior.

I also tried using pilot-link. pilot-link will not talk to my
palm device at all. It hangs at the message please press the hotsync
button now
when I've already pressed the hotsync button before starting pilot-link.
If I wait until starting pilot-link to press the hotsync button, it complains
that /dev/pilot does not exist. That's the human timing issue I was talking
about. I hadn't ever used gnome-pilot under Debian so I couldn't comment
on anything there.

I also tried jpilot and got a similar result as pilot-link. I pressed
the hotsync
button on the cradle, then pressed a sync button on its GUI and it said press
the hotsync button. Here are some messages:
J-Pilot: sync PID = 8469
J-Pilot: press the hotsync button on the cradle or kill 8469
pi_accept: Connection timed out
pi_accept Illegal seek
Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_PI_ACCEPT
Finished
J-Pilot: sync PID = 8497
J-Pilot: press the hotsync button on the cradle or kill 8497
J-Pilot: sync PID = 8497
J-Pilot: press the hotsync button on the cradle or kill 8497
J-Pilot: sync PID = 8497
J-Pilot: press the hotsync button on the cradle or kill 8497
J-Pilot: sync PID = 8497
J-Pilot: press the hotsync button on the cradle or kill 8497
J-Pilot: sync PID = 8497
J-Pilot: press the hotsync button on the cradle or kill 8497
dlp_ReadSysInfo error
Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT
Finished

So at this point I have a usable workaround by running gpilotd manually with
kernel 2.6.17.6. I'm not sure what to make of the fact that palm syncing
app seems to be broken in different ways. Maybe something subtle
has changed in the USB subsystem that is causing them to flake out?

[Bug 38198] Re: Garbled using open source Radeon driver

2006-07-21 Thread Roman Kennke
One more thing. I'm developing Cairo based AWT peers for GNU Classpath.
There I'm seeing similar problems, more specifically when drawing
textures and gradients using the corresponding Cairo functions. I
suppose the problems with the Ubuntu theme might also come from Cairo?
Of course, the real problem still seems the Xorg driver, as switching to
Vesa helps somewhat.

[Bug 38198] Re: Garbled using open source Radeon driver

2006-07-21 Thread Javier Ruiz
I also think this is somewhat Cairo related. After trying the XGL server
(using unofficial dapper packages from xgl.compiz.info) I can not see
the grabled problems anymore... I've went back to normal XORG and now
this bug seems to be gone.

Installing XGL packages upgraded libcairo2 to version 1.2.0 so my guess
is that helped

[Bug 53619] In nautilus, ubuntu partition should have a better name than filesystem

2006-07-21 Thread Joseph Garvin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

1. Click Places-Computer

The Ubuntu partition is just named filesystem. It would be nice if it
made more of an effort to help users distinguish between say, their
ubuntu partition, and their windows partition. Simply naming it Ubuntu
would be more helpful, but it'd also be nice to give it an altered HD
icon that has the ubuntu logo on the top of the disk.

And of course it'd be uber cool if the same was done for other OSes
(windows logo for ntfs partitions, mac os logo for HFS, etc.) but that
takes this from a usability bug report to a wishlist ;P

I have the same experience with Evolution connected to GroupWise via

produce the desired result.

I submitted the attached report via bugbuddy yesterday - perhaps it
would be useful in pinpointing the problem.

[Bug 53651] Aplying filters with hotkey (Ctrl+Y) deletes filters definitions.

2006-07-21 Thread Gabriel Patiño
Public bug reported:

There's two ways to apply filters to selected messages:

1. From the menu Message/Apply Filters
2. Pressing the asigned hot key (Ctrl+Y)

If you select some messages and use the first option, the messages are
filtered ok.

If you select some messages and use the hot key, the messages are not
filtered, and the filters definition list is cleared, resulting in the
loss of all defined filters.

[Bug 53651] Re: Aplying filters with hotkey (Ctrl+Y) deletes filters definitions.

2006-07-21 Thread Gabriel Patiño
Well, the problems doesn't seems to be related to hot key.

The file filters.xml was corrupted, and bringing a backup solved the
problem.

How did it get corrupted?... that's the question.

Before getting this odd behavior, I deleted a folder that was used in one of
the filters.
After deleting the folder, evolution showed a message saying that it has
updated the related filters.
Maybe there's the problem, and when it tries to update filters, it corrupts the
filters.xml file.

PS: When I say corrupted xml file, I mean that the file is not correctly
endend, but don't know how to express it right. Attached is the
'corrupted' file.

[Bug 53619] Re: In nautilus, ubuntu partition should have a better name than filesystem

I like the idea of assigning a default ubuntu logo to the Computer/root
filesystem, but allow the logo to also be customised through the

I think the appropriate name would be the machine's name.

This could also generalise, having other icons for other machines, and
also having icons for groups of networks.

[Bug 53673] Wrong package version

2006-07-21 Thread Ewald Geschwinde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libglib2.0-dev

I wanted to compile gnash0.7.1
some dev packages are needed - had some problems about dependencies

I have installed the package libglib2.0-0 Version 2.10.3

but the dev package has 2.10.2
No problem for me but :

libglib2.0-dev:
Hängt ab: »libglib2.0-0 (=2.10.2-1ubuntu3)«, aber es wird »2.10.3-0ubuntu1«
installiert.

German warning of synaptic try to install libglib2.0-dev 2.10.2 but it
needs libglib2.0-0 (version 2.10.2) instaed of 2.10.3

Thanks for your bug. That's not a package bug, you probably have your apt
sources misconfigured, could you run and copy to a comment?:
- apt-cache policy
- apt-cache policy libglib2.0-dev
- apt-cache policy libglib2.0-0

[Bug 53684] recurring events not displayed correctly

2006-07-21 Thread Simon Hepburn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Dapper with Evo 2.6.1-0ubuntu7

I created a recurring event starting on Mon 24/07/06 using this rule:

appointment recurs every 1 week on mon, tue, wed, thur, fri for 4
occurrences.

This should give me a total of 20 events. Only the first 4 are displayed
by Evo. Evo knows there are 20 events - if I publish the calendar to
Icalx.com all 20 are visible, it just cannot display them correctly
itself.

Will attach screenshots:

RecurrenceRules.png - view of the recurrence dialog
EvoJuly.png showing 4 events, should be 5 visible
EvoAugust.png showing 0 events, should be 15 visible
IcalxJuly.png showing 5 events
IcalxAugust.png showing 15 events

[Bug 50079] Re: CD Burner needs file based temporary directory

2006-07-21 Thread frogzoo
The default install won't even create /tmp, leaving it as a subdirectory
of /, ext3 normally. So for noobs, this isn't an issue.

What you say suggests that if you do a manual install, the installer
creates /tmp as tmpfs.

Seems to me people tweaking their filesystem layout should be able to
figure out that you need enough swap/tmp to burn a cd/dvd, and the
_logical_ place to find a temporary image would be /tmp.

Moving the temporary file will create endless confusion. If you don't
have enough space, the solution is increase swap/the size of /tmp, not
move the directory. Moving the temporary file to /var will result in the
same issues when it fills up, but be harder to figure out what's wrong.
It's also easier to increase the size of /tmp as it's based on swap,
than /var, which may be on its own fixed size partition.
