Dang, I've just tested with a 8.04 (fresh installation). Seems it's
something wrong just with me, since this machine has been updated since
6.06 (before it was a Debian 4.0 -- Etch, that I ripped off leaving only
backup of /etc directory).

Marked as invalid. Thanks for your reply.

Public bug reported:

I already posted a question in the forum about the topic that ripping
and playing music didn't seem to go together and my wondering about
that.

well, I know in the meantime why the music stops. As I tried in my I-tunes
reflex to run some music while ripping a CD the next tracks started appearing
in the import errors folder with the tag : empty file
The first error line had as extra info problem occured without error being
set This is a bug in Rhythmbox or GST.

What I expected is that in a multi-tasking system you can (as the name suggest)
perform multiple tasks.
what happend is that it doesn't work
what puzzles me is, why I-tunes windows does do this and Rhytmbox doesn't

[Bug 272707] [NEW] Wrong background color if automatic login is enabled

2008-09-21 Thread MadsRH
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When I enable automatic the login (in the 'Login window preferences' menu) the
GDM background color should change to match the desktop background color. This
would help make a more slick boot experience.

changed in the Login window preferences), most desktop background colors are
not.

[Bug 272706] [NEW] Mouse loose acceleration settings when using another X Window

2008-09-21 Thread Stéphane Marguet
Public bug reported:

When using another X window (like Xnest or launching gdmthemetester), the new
Window will not use your mouse gnome settings (which is normal) but when you
close it, your mouse acceleration is not brought back.
You'll have to run gnome-mouse-properties and click on acceleration to bring it
back.

Test case:
In gnome set acceleration to (very) slow so you could see a difference.
Open an Xnest :1 window.
Your mouse will have the «normal» acceleration.
Close your Xnest window and the mouse will still have the «normal» settings.

[Bug 81960] Re: gnome-power-manager says that HAL was unable to hibernate right after hibernation

2008-09-21 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
I reported two different bugs: one is that the popup appears wrongly,
after a correct hibernation cycle, the other one is that the popup is
uninformative. I forgot about that. It's better to mark one a dupe of
the other, because the solution is the same in both cases (I think):
provide more informative error messages. Then, it will be possible to
know why the system thinks hibernation failed when it succeded.

[Bug 272742] [NEW] eog won't ask to mount a volume

2008-09-21 Thread MurDoK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Intrepid Alpha6 fully updated.
When you have just installed ubuntu, you don't usually have the rights to mount
volumes.

Eog does nothing when you want to open a folder, in this case a volume,
that is not mounted and which you don't have rights to mount (yet).

The expected behaviour should be running policykit.
It's similar to when you want to access to a volume from computer:///... :
has rights? - open
hasn't rights? - ask password

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10

2008-09-21 Thread MurDoK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Bug #272742 may be related to this one.

Steps to reproduce:
1-Make sure you don't have rights to mount any volume.
2-Run eog; File-Open.
3-Choose any volume (Don't worry if it's not opened due to bug #272742) and
close the window.
4-Mount ANY volume from Places-volume (should ask for password).
5-Crash! (If it hasn't crashed then umount the volume and it should also crash).

[Bug 272758] [NEW] gedit does not allow to paste a text copied from Epiphany

2008-09-21 Thread Nxx
Public bug reported:

I have copied a text from a webpage from Epiphany, and created a new
text file on the desktop and opened it with gedit. I tried to insert the
text, but 'insert' item in the menu was inactive, Ctrl+v also did
nothing. Then I opened OOo writer and inserted the text there - all
worked well. I also opened new session of gedit, and also all
successfully inserted the text. Then I again opened the newly created

it.

I repeated with another text from another webpage - all worked the same

[Bug 272756] Re: crash

2008-09-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 272780] [NEW] GNOME file chooser slow to respond

[Bug 272779] [NEW] evolution's documentation should be split in locale packages to save space

2008-09-21 Thread Jean-François Fortin Tam
Public bug reported:

Here is a discussion that happened on the ubuntu-desktop mailing list on
Sat, 19 Apr 2008 01:28:31 -0400:

The evolution-common package in ubuntu weights 93.4 MiB. After
openoffice.org-core, this is the heaviest package installed in ubuntu by
default. I personally like evolution, and I'd like it to be kept part of
the default installation, I was just wondering: what on earth can be so
heavy in evolution-common? They certainly don't have over 8 million
lines of codes like openoffice, no?

==
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -L evolution-common | grep '\.png' | wc -l
1370

That's mostly the images for the documentation. It ships the images for a lot of
locales, as some of them are localized.
==
And why aren't those in an evolution-doc package? Why not split this into
evolution-doc-$locale packages, and have them only installed by the good old
language-support-$locale?

[Bug 272759] Re: Epiphany cannot post Russian comments in LiveJournal

2008-09-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
you can report any ubuntu bug on launchpad, the ubuntu team doesn't have
the ressources to work on all those issues in a distribution specific
way and the launchpad bug triager mostly copy good bug descriptions to
the upstream bug tracker, you can do that directly too to reduce the
workload on the ubuntu bugsquad and have the bug read by the software
hackers
