[Bug 1055766] Re: grep -R doesn't automatically search amazon
I was thinking of making a new report for this but I feel it is somewhat related. I just had a brain wave and felt that another way of supporting Canonical would be to give product suggestions whilst the user is idle at the terminal for a certain period of time. Clearly if someone is idle they're just bored and the helpful suggestions provided by Canonical would aid them in freeing themselves from bored despair. I've had a look at the Amazon RSS API and have found that this would be rather easy to implement. Periodically bash should call this Python script that I've made (and will attach) which would randomly select out of 20 suggestions. It'll provide a title and URL so the user can buy. I'd love to implement a mechanism where it can be purchased by just clicking on the URL however it is not possible to implement via RSS. All Canonical needs to do is substitute the current example user ID with their own. Feedparser is not included in Ubuntu by default but is part of the repo with the package name: python-feedparser - Universal Feed Parser for Python for 2.7 and python3-feedparser - Universal Feed Parser for Python for 3.2 ** Attachment added: Python script to parse Amazon RSS and provide helpful suggestions https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1055766/+attachment/3428573/+files/amazon.py -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1055766 Title: grep -R doesn't automatically search amazon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/1055766/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 884041] Re: Screen brightness not adjusted when switching from AC to battery
Judging by upstream design documents[1], this feature has been changed by the GNOME folks to only dim the screen when idle on battery power. The tickbox for Dim screen to save power in the Brightness and Lock capplet in Gnome Control Center toggles the idle-dim-battery GSettings key, and on battery power your screen should dim after (by default) 30 seconds of idle time. I'm going to talk with upstream about clarifying the tickbox label, but otherwise I don't think this feature will be coming back as it was. [Bug 884041] Re: Screen brightness not adjusted when switching from AC to battery
What is irritating about this is the backlight on laptops is usually the highest power item. So on battery I want it to always be low power to maximise the battery life, I don't want it to continuously go bright when I touch my laptop as this consumes excess battery. As I can't have that my display is always dim at the moment, so even on AC I am having a dim display and not utilising the screens ability. It makes sense to have two power modes, on battery, and on AC. It makes absolutely no sense to use virtually the same settings on both. The GNOME guys are consistently going to far to reduce configuration. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884041 Title: Screen brightness not adjusted when switching from AC to battery To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-nexus7/+bug/884041/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1076880] Re: network speed incorrectly reported in System Monitor using VPN
Hi Robert The axis labels seem appropriate to the speed value apparently seen by system monitor. It is th eapparent speed value seen by system monitor which is too large. To keep th einitial report simple, I did not mention the similar apparent inaccuracy in system monitor indication of upload speed also, in fact it was the upload speed being (incorrectly far too large that brought my attention to this - I am using VPN for the first time and running (Ubuntu, floss) torrents in Transmission. With VPN the upload speed is shown as say, 90 (ish) but I have set the global up speed to be limited to 45. It was my concern that I had either lost control of the upload speed, or thatsomehow VPN was throwing a very fast upload capability. My ISP doe not traffic shape at all, and also I could not can not see why a VPN should cause a large increase in what should be a controlled speed of upload. My expected max upload speed should be just over 100, say 120 (ISP says currently - Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:1.072 / 7.407) My conclusion fwiw is that Transmission seems to report correct (upload ) speeds (set to say 50) when VPN is used, but System Monitor seems to give incorrectly high indications, and also not steady values either. [Bug 1038573] Re: Unreadable messages displayed during Lucid - Precise upgrade
TodayI performed an in-place update from 10.04 to 12.04. During the course of the install i noted the appearance of several dialogs (presumably errors) as described by the original report. I am still unsure about what to do in a lot of cases, so I clicked on the default (highlighted) button to continue. (I am new with Linux, but my overall computer experience goes back to the dark ages of TRS-DOS, CP/M, and integer BASIC on a teletype machine.) AFTER this installation fully completed I noticed that the issue also affect a number of text-type items. I observed the effect (characters replaced by empty rectangles) in text email messages in Evolution, and in text files on the desktop. I had to try a number of workarounds. the results are illustrated in the attachments. Screenshot-01-application: Text email message as viewed in Evolution, gedit and writer. (It is readable only in writer.) Screenshot-02-application: Another text email bessage as viewed in Evolution and writer. Screenshot-03-application: A text (html) file stored on the desktop as viewed there, in gedit, and with notebook in wine. (It is only readable in notebook.) Now it says: ~$ emesene Exception in thread Thread-3: Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/lib/python2.7/threading.py, line 552, in __bootstrap_inner self.run() File /usr/share/emesene/emesene/e3/base/Logger.py, line 881, in run self.logger = Logger(self.path, self.db_name) File /usr/share/emesene/emesene/e3/base/Logger.py, line 363, in __init__ self._load_events() File /usr/share/emesene/emesene/e3/base/Logger.py, line 395, in _load_events self.execute(Logger.SELECT_EVENTS) File /usr/share/emesene/emesene/e3/base/Logger.py, line 597, in execute self.cursor.execute(query, args) OperationalError: no such table: d_event Segmentation fault (core dumped) Hope that helps, if only to establish that the two reports are or are not related! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to pygobject in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1050358 Title: emesene crashed with SIGSEGV in tupledealloc.24592() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emesene/+bug/1050358/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1077289] [NEW] Lubuntu 12.04 missing libpam-gnome-keyring
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Lubuntu 12.04 is missing the gnome keyring pam module libpam-gnome- keyring as part of its default install. This makes it impossible to link the default keyring to the login keyring, thus requiring users to unlock the default keyring as a separate action after login. It's an annoyance with effects disproportionate to its cause due to the fact that users are advising each other to delete their keyring altogether as a workaround to get rid of the annoying pop-up. Needless to say, this creates serious security holes. ** Affects: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public Security -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-keyring in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077289 Title: Lubuntu 12.04 missing libpam-gnome-keyring To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/1077289/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
