[Bug 1244899] [NEW] the format, it does nothing!

2013-10-26 Thread Nick Moffitt
Public bug reported:

I recently bought a new USB thumb drive, and popped it in to my computer
to LUKS it up. I clicked the little eject sigil next to its name in
nautilus, and then right-clicked on its sidebar entry and chose
format. I get asked all the relevant information, and I click format.
Then I confirm.

  The rest is silence.

I'm not sure why nothing happens, exactly, but I can't find any new
icons on my unity dock thingy, can't find any mkfs processes running,
and in fact basically the request to format seems to have actually been
completely ignored.

Same thing happens when I choose pure ext4 without the LUKS crypto.

[Bug 1244900] [NEW] [trusty] The permissions of .gvfs could not be determined

2013-10-26 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

Fresh Trusty i386 installation made from the trusty iso image; so it
follows the ubuntu-desktop choices.

Inside /home/user/, .gvfs is unreadable.
I suppose that's related to gvfs-fuse : note that its a single destop system
(not linked to a network here).

oem@dev32:~$ ls -l ~/.gvfs
ls: cannot access /home/oem/.gvfs: Permission denied
oem@dev32:~$ sudo ls -l ~/.gvfs
[sudo] password for oem:
total 0
oem@dev32:~$

So maybe gvfs-fuse should not be installed by default when a network is
not detected first ?

2013-10-26 Thread Michael Utz
Same problem here. My USB wireles LAN adapter worked fine with Xubuntu
13.04.

Now after upgrading to Xubuntu version 13.10, my network does not work
any more after resuming from hibernation. I can see the device in
Network Settings, but the task bar symbol is disappeared and I cannot
get any connection. This problem disappears only after rebooting the
system.

I've also added two lines to protect the killing part, which I did not
mention above. Don't know whether it's useful or not.

By the end of pre-start:
initctl set-env --global

By the beginning of post-stop:
[ $SSH_AGENT_LAUNCHER = /usr/share/upstart/sessions/ssh-agent.conf ] ||

That's incredible!
Using my iPhone 5 iOS 7.0.2 with ubuntu 12.10 64bit by desktop computer I don't
have this problem.
Instead, using my iPhone with ubuntu 13.10 32bit by TOSHIBA NB100 I have this
problem exactly like in Bug Description.
I'm afraid of install or update 12.10 to 13.10 (on my 64bit desktop computer)
because internet by iPhone is my unique possibility to have internet!

[Bug 1244827] Re: Ghost screen

2013-10-26 Thread Sami Jaktholm
This is most likely a caused by a problem in the XOrg display detection.
Could you attach the output of the following command when you see that
display in gnome control center the next time?

xrandr --verbose

That command lists the displays X server has detected and helps
developers narrow down the cause of this bug. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1244581] Re: Internal error occured dialog often after some reboot.

2013-10-26 Thread Sami Jaktholm
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing required
information to address this issue. Please follow these instructions to
have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by
the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and
open the crash report you wish to submit with Report a problem...
application.

If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get
an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to
file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 1243993] Re: Ubuntu global menu and top bar not working sometimes

2013-10-26 Thread Sami Jaktholm
This report contains multiple bugs which makes it difficult to track the
issues. Please create a separate bug for each issue mentioned in this report.
You should at least
1) Open a bug against activity-log-manager about the images in dash issue.
2) Open a bug about the empty Software Center window against software-center
package (if you see these often with different applications, I'm not really
sure which package to report it against)
3) Open a bug against unity package for the global menubar issues

If you open a new bug about each of the issues you mentioned, you should
invalidate this bug by changing the status to Invalid. However, if you
reuse this report, please change the status back to New.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 882307] Re: [list-view] After copying text from a rename entry, file copy menus items are broken

2013-10-26 Thread shadowwraith
I am having the same issue on Ubuntustudio 13:10 saucy

uname -a

Linux shadowwraith-Aspire-5552 3.11.0-11-lowlatency #4-Ubuntu SMP
PREEMPT Wed Oct 2 22:48:21 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

nautilus --version
GNOME nautilus 3.8.2

I don't know the precise trigger for this, but it does seem to occur after long
periods of opening and closing new tabs, renaming files etc. I have to restart
nautilus in order to get full functionality again.

As others have stated the shortcut actions still work but selecting them
from the rightclick menu or the Locations Options menu does not.

It seems to effect copy, paste, select all, move to rubbish bin etc.

[Bug 854833] Re: NM asks for Wi-Fi password every time I log in, or every minute, if Available to all users not checked; forgets password too

2013-10-26 Thread Martin
I ran into the exact same problem after updating my Kubuntu 12.04 laptop
to 13.10. The password is there in the connection settings, but KDE
Daemon pops up asking for the password over and over. Connection drops
all the time with that, too. I ended up having to remove network-manager
and replacing it with wicd (which also has a serious bug preventing you
from starting the daemon: https://bugs.launchpad.net/wicd/+bug/1193856).
It's a holy mess, rendering the laptop next to unusable for days.

[Bug 1232454] Re: Often automatic suspend dialog when I unlock

2013-10-26 Thread Mike Lee
I agree - this is painful behavior. Every time I resume I need to click
Cancel or OK over and over, then escape out of the the Dash (odd). Also
I had turn of Require password when waking ... in order to avoid
multiple logins (see comment #8) and make this less painful. But that
leads to a less secure configuration which makes this a bit more serious
problem for the broader community who might decide to take that route.

[Bug 1244999] Crash report cannot be processed

2013-10-26 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for libudev1: package version 204-0ubuntu19
dbgsym version 204-0ubuntu18
outdated debug symbol package for libsystemd-login0: package version
204-0ubuntu19 dbgsym version 204-0ubuntu18

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 1245064] [NEW] Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard

2013-10-26 Thread Norbert
Public bug reported:

In next six month 14.04 will be prepared and arrived. It's LTS. So users
of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS may want to update to it.

What they have now (in Ubuntu 12.04.3)?
They have very wide choose of available hotkeys for layout change. Let's see.
In Ubuntu 12.04.3, under gnome-control-center keyboard we have (select tab
Typing, click on link Layout Settings in left bottom corner of window,
press the Options button in the bottom right corner of window, window
Keyboard Layout Options is opened).

This window allows user to set many options.
It allows to set the following:
Adding currency signs to certain keys
 Adding Esperanto circumflexes (supersigno)
 Alt/Win key behavior
 Caps Lock key behavior
 Compose key position
 Ctrl key position
 Japanese keyboard options
Key sequence to kill the X server
 Key(s) to change layout
 Key to choose 3rd level
 Key to choose 5th level
 Miscellaneous compatibility options
 Numeric keypad delete key behavior
 Numeric keypad layout selection
Use keyboard LED to show alternative layout
Using space key to input non-breakable space character

In Ubuntu 13.10 this setup window is missing.
So user will be unable to adjust many layout switching parameters.

For example, under Key(s) to change layout this window has:
Alt+Caps Lock
Alt+Ctrl
Alt+Shift
Alt+Space
Any Win key (while pressed)
Both Alt keys together
Both Ctrl keys together
Both Shift keys together
Caps Lock
Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout)
Caps Lock (while pressed), Alt+Caps Lock does the original capslock action
Ctrl+Shift
Left Alt
Left Alt+Left Shift
Left Alt (while pressed)
Left Ctrl
Left Ctrl+Left Shift
Left Ctrl+LeftWin (to first layout), RightCtrl+Menu (to second layout)
Left Ctrl (to first layout), Right Ctrl (to last layout)
Left Shift
Left Win
Left Win (to first layout), Right Win/Menu (to last layout)
Left Win (while pressed)
Menu
Right Alt
Rigth Alt (while pressed)
Right Ctrl
Right Ctrl+Right Shift
Right Ctrl (while pressed)
Right Shift
Right Win
Right Win (while pressed)
Scroll Lock
Shift+Caps Lock
This list is very long but universal. Defined hotkeys are full-functional. For
example if I set Ctrl+Shift for layout changing I can copy and paste in
gnome-terminal with Ctrl+Shift+C / V.
I do not want to post other Keyboard Layout Options features, that missed in
13.10. But they are of course missed.
What we have now in 13.10 (ppa or proposed)?
We have simple shortcuts (for example Alt+Shift and Ctrl+Shift) and do not have
other.

This bug report will be a table of contents of all issues, that are
called from this window and are broken/missed in Ubuntu 13.10. For
example, we can detect and report separate bugreports for each hotkey
which does not work correctly in 13.10.

Keyboard layout switching is most important and most essential
functionality.

IMHO. I do not agree with GNOME simpilicity/stupidity modern style and I hope
that 14.04 will be polished and full-functional as Precise Pangolin. I
understand that some of the keyboard layout switch options are available in
gnome-tweak-tool, but it is not right place for them. Layout switching is a
common feature, there is no reason to hide it under not-preinstalled tool.
Let's make Trusty Tahr the greatest Ubuntu LTS release!

[Bug 1245067] [NEW] applicaton language support in evolution / gnome fails

2013-10-26 Thread Körner
Public bug reported:

Some days ago I changed to ubuntu 13.10. Since then the language support
for the german indication of e.g. the menus in evoution doesn't work any
more. All settings regarding the use of german in gnome in the
preferences menu referring to programs are set correctly. Other
aplications I tried still have the german locales. The command 'locale
-a' gives out

C
C.UTF-8
de_AT.utf8
de_BE.utf8
de_CH.utf8
de_DE.utf8
de_LI.utf8
de_LU.utf8
en_US.utf8
POSIX

The version of evolution according to...
apt-cache policy evolution
evolution:
  Installiert: 3.8.4-0ubuntu1
  Installationskandidat: 3.8.4-0ubuntu1
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 3.8.4-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Since I supposed some missing entry in the locale default, after consulting a
forum for internet advice I tried to add a second line with POSIX to the
file. But afterwards even the normal gnome desktop would show up in english. So
I restored the file and removed the respective line. Since gnome at this point
still refused to use the german locale, I deleted the english locales to force
the use of german and succeded. But this will for sure cause problems if any
program wil ask for the english locale to work. I would appreciate very much if
the language support for gnome and evolution would again work as it did in my
elder versions of ubuntu.

[Bug 1238266] Re: Error setting owner: Operation not permitted when extracting Eclipse in saucy

2013-10-26 Thread Clay Ferguson
Mark-Andre, even when you unzip using command line 'tar' the eclipse
distro is corrupted. When you run eclipse the main menu of the eclipse
app is unable to show any content. When you click a menu item, the menu
doesn't appear. The eclipse menu 'bar' shows up but is totally
unusable. The other indication of a corruption is that the splashscreen
has a bad appearance (hard to explain) but definiately indicates
something has gone wrong with eclipse. This 'could' possibly be an
eclipse bug, but at this point i'm willing to blame it on the ubuntu
unzipping code.

[Bug 1243993] Re: Ubuntu global menu and top bar not working sometimes

2013-10-26 Thread florin
You are right, there probably are more bugs there (different causes),
but I had no way of knowing which packages to report as being buggy. You
can imagine 99.% of users do not need to know package names or even
ubuntu-bug terminal command :)

I will report the first two soon, but the 3rd one is reported for months and it
still is there: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1199877

Having an unstable computer with no solution for months is not the best
way to keep people here. Unfortunately, many users will get discouraged
to report bugs if older ones are not addressed.

[Bug 1245097] [NEW] Internal data flow error playing dvds

2013-10-26 Thread Jon-o Addleman
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to saucy salamander, with totem 3.8.2-0ubuntu1, I have
errors playing DVDs. They start playing, but after a little while, I get
the Internal data flow error and playback stops. This didn't happen

expect that would change things. The same files play without problem in
