[Bug 1244899] [NEW] the format, it does nothing!
Public bug reported: I recently bought a new USB thumb drive, and popped it in to my computer to LUKS it up. I clicked the little eject sigil next to its name in nautilus, and then right-clicked on its sidebar entry and chose format. I get asked all the relevant information, and I click format. Then I confirm. The rest is silence. I'm not sure why nothing happens, exactly, but I can't find any new icons on my unity dock thingy, can't find any mkfs processes running, and in fact basically the request to format seems to have actually been completely ignored. Same thing happens when I choose pure ext4 without the LUKS crypto. [Bug 1244581] Re: Internal error occured dialog often after some reboot.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing required information to address this issue. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit with Report a problem... application. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 1232454] Re: Often automatic suspend dialog when I unlock
I agree - this is painful behavior. Every time I resume I need to click Cancel or OK over and over, then escape out of the the Dash (odd). Also I had turn of Require password when waking ... in order to avoid multiple logins (see comment #8) and make this less painful. But that leads to a less secure configuration which makes this a bit more serious problem for the broader community who might decide to take that route. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1232454 Title: Often automatic suspend dialog when I unlock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1232454/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1245064] [NEW] Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard
Public bug reported: In next six month 14.04 will be prepared and arrived. It's LTS. So users of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS may want to update to it. What they have now (in Ubuntu 12.04.3)? They have very wide choose of available hotkeys for layout change. Let's see. In Ubuntu 12.04.3, under gnome-control-center keyboard we have (select tab Typing, click on link Layout Settings in left bottom corner of window, press the Options button in the bottom right corner of window, window Keyboard Layout Options is opened). This window allows user to set many options. It allows to set the following: Adding currency signs to certain keys Adding Esperanto circumflexes (supersigno) Alt/Win key behavior Caps Lock key behavior Compose key position Ctrl key position Japanese keyboard options Key sequence to kill the X server Key(s) to change layout Key to choose 3rd level Key to choose 5th level Miscellaneous compatibility options Numeric keypad delete key behavior Numeric keypad layout selection Use keyboard LED to show alternative layout Using space key to input non-breakable space character In Ubuntu 13.10 this setup window is missing. So user will be unable to adjust many layout switching parameters. For example, under Key(s) to change layout this window has: Alt+Caps Lock Alt+Ctrl Alt+Shift Alt+Space Any Win key (while pressed) Both Alt keys together Both Ctrl keys together Both Shift keys together Caps Lock Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout) Caps Lock (while pressed), Alt+Caps Lock does the original capslock action Ctrl+Shift Left Alt Left Alt+Left Shift Left Alt (while pressed) Left Ctrl Left Ctrl+Left Shift Left Ctrl+LeftWin (to first layout), RightCtrl+Menu (to second layout) Left Ctrl (to first layout), Right Ctrl (to last layout) Left Shift Left Win Left Win (to first layout), Right Win/Menu (to last layout) Left Win (while pressed) Menu Right Alt Rigth Alt (while pressed) Right Ctrl Right Ctrl+Right Shift Right Ctrl (while pressed) Right Shift Right Win Right Win (while pressed) Scroll Lock Shift+Caps Lock This list is very long but universal. Defined hotkeys are full-functional. For example if I set Ctrl+Shift for layout changing I can copy and paste in gnome-terminal with Ctrl+Shift+C / V. I do not want to post other Keyboard Layout Options features, that missed in 13.10. But they are of course missed. What we have now in 13.10 (ppa or proposed)? We have simple shortcuts (for example Alt+Shift and Ctrl+Shift) and do not have other. This bug report will be a table of contents of all issues, that are called from this window and are broken/missed in Ubuntu 13.10. For example, we can detect and report separate bugreports for each hotkey which does not work correctly in 13.10. Keyboard layout switching is most important and most essential functionality. IMHO. I do not agree with GNOME simpilicity/stupidity modern style and I hope that 14.04 will be polished and full-functional as Precise Pangolin. I understand that some of the keyboard layout switch options are available in gnome-tweak-tool, but it is not right place for them. Layout switching is a common feature, there is no reason to hide it under not-preinstalled tool. Let's make Trusty Tahr the greatest Ubuntu LTS release! [Bug 1245067] [NEW] applicaton language support in evolution / gnome fails

All settings regarding the use of german in gnome in the preferences menu referring to programs are set correctly. Other aplications I tried still have the german locales. The command 'locale -a' gives out C C.UTF-8 de_AT.utf8 de_BE.utf8 de_CH.utf8 de_DE.utf8 de_LI.utf8 de_LU.utf8 en_US.utf8 POSIX The version of evolution according to... apt-cache policy evolution evolution: Installiert: 3.8.4-0ubuntu1 Installationskandidat: 3.8.4-0ubuntu1 Versionstabelle: *** 3.8.4-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Since I supposed some missing entry in the locale default, after consulting a forum for internet advice I tried to add a second line with POSIX to the file. But afterwards even the normal gnome desktop would show up in english. So I restored the file and removed the respective line. Since gnome at this point still refused to use the german locale, I deleted the english locales to force the use of german and succeded. But this will for sure cause problems if any program wil ask for the english locale to work. [Bug 1238266] Re: Error setting owner: Operation not permitted when extracting Eclipse in saucy
Mark-Andre, even when you unzip using command line 'tar' the eclipse distro is corrupted. When you run eclipse the main menu of the eclipse app is unable to show any content. When you click a menu item, the menu doesn't appear. The eclipse menu 'bar' shows up but is totally unusable. The other indication of a corruption is that the splashscreen has a bad appearance (hard to explain) but definiately indicates something has gone wrong with eclipse. This 'could' possibly be an eclipse bug, but at this point i'm willing to blame it on the ubuntu unzipping code. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1238266 Title: Error setting owner: Operation not permitted when extracting Eclipse in saucy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/file-roller/+bug/1238266/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1243993] Re: Ubuntu global menu and top bar not working sometimes
You are right, there probably are more bugs there (different causes), but I had no way of knowing which packages to report as being buggy. You can imagine 99.% of users do not need to know package names or even ubuntu-bug terminal command :) I will report the first two soon, but the 3rd one is reported for months and it still is there: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1199877 Having an unstable computer with no solution for months is not the best way to keep people here. [Bug 1245097] [NEW] Internal data flow error playing dvds
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to saucy salamander, with totem 3.8.2-0ubuntu1, I have errors playing DVDs. They start playing, but after a little while, I get the Internal data flow error and playback stops. This didn't happen before upgrading ubuntu.
