[Bug 1423847] Re: Evince print blank pages for landscape pdfs when auto rotate and center is chosen

2015-02-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Upstream fixed it with this commit
https://git.gnome.org/browse/evince/commit/?id=69b474fce1a87a0839e1f541f1297492e47c7c31

that reverts another fix so is not ideal, but maybe we should do that
anyway

[Bug 1423847] [NEW] Evince print blank pages for landscape pdfs when auto rotate and center is chosen

2015-02-20 Thread wilk
Public bug reported:

The title says it all. The document is printed if the auto-rotate and
center is unchecked but of course that's not a solution since the image
is cropped.

I also tried printing to a pdf file, the resulting pdf seems correct but
fails to print just the same.

Printing from okular works fine although for some reason dual sided
printing is greyed out (it used to work fine with evince before on my
Laserjet 2055d).

The problem seems known upstream (see
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=739723)

I added a file exhibiting the problem.

[Bug 1421117] Re: fails to boot with Attempted to kill init in VMWare, absolute /sbin/init symlink does not work

2015-02-20 Thread Martin Pitt
For the record, the chroot is done here:

# Work around absolute symlinks
if [ -d ${rootmnt} ] [ -h ${rootmnt}${checktarget} ]; then
case $(readlink ${rootmnt}${checktarget}) in /*)
checktarget=$(chroot ${rootmnt} readlink
${checktarget})
;;
esac
fi

So if chroot doesn't work, we would indeed fail if /sbin/init is an
absolute symlink. However, /sbin/chroot is supposed to exist in the
initramfs:

$ zcat /initrd.img |cpio -tv | grep chroot
-rwxr-xr-x 141 root root0 Oct 27 09:40 sbin/chroot

How does that look for you? Perhaps you have a different initramfs
config which skips that?

[Bug 1423836] [NEW] Nautilus loses focus

2015-02-20 Thread manfreed
Public bug reported:

Nautilus fails to regain focus when it opens an other window or dialog,
and that window/dialog is closed.

Tested in Trusty, with default settings.

To reproduce:
 - Open nautilus.
 - Find an image, and open it. Normally it would open in eye of gnome.
 - Close the image viewer.

Alternative:
 - Select a file in Nautilus
 - Press shift-del to remove it completely.
 - Nautilus asks Are you sure you want to permanently delete Press enter
to accept. The dialog disappears.

Expected behaviour:
 - The nautilus window should regain focus.

Current behaviour.
 - Nothing seems to be focused anymore (or maybe the desktop is focused, I'm
not sure).

Extra info:
 - Bug #14459 is quite similar, but it was marked as invalid. Also it's very
old.
 - This might be a bug in unity, and how it handles windows.

[Bug 1422879] Re: GPS stays active after location data is used by a scope (even after not not using the scopes anymore)

2015-02-20 Thread Pete Woods
Okay, further debugging reveals that if you put the phone to sleep with
a scope that requires location visible, the location updates are not
disabled.

Looks like this is a regression. The location service listens to when
scopes are marked as active/inactive, and they all used to be marked
inactive when the phone went to sleep. This is obviously no-longer the
case.

[Bug 1422879] Re: GPS stays active after location data is used by a scope (even after not not using the scopes anymore)

2015-02-20 Thread Pete Woods
I just put together a branch for unity-scopes-shell that logs when GPS
updates from the location service are being enabled and disabled:

lp:~unity-api-team/unity-scopes-shell/log-when-updating-location

Trying this on my device produces the expected behaviour, i.e.:

* When looking at a scope that requires location, it enables location updates.
* When you move away from that scope, location updates stay enabled for a 5
second timeout (in order that the GPS isn't rapidly turned on and off as you
browse through scopes).

To be clear, the location session remains active all the time, we just
toggle the updates property. This is the (I believe correct) way tvoß
explained to use the location service to me.

Log output:
Enabling location updates
Disabling location updates
Enabling location updates
Disabling location updates
Enabling location updates
Disabling location updates

[Bug 1305335] Re: Cutting or copying files on btrfs to ecryptfs results in data loss

2015-02-20 Thread whoop
I still have a running system with this issue.
It is not an ubuntu box but Arch 64. This is a fresh install.

I stole the disk layout from the ubuntu documentation for this system:
one btrfs partition with @ subvolume for / and @home subvolume for /home.
The system also uses a vfat ESP as it is an UEFI install.
Default kernel: currently 3.18.6-1-ARCH

I installed ecryptfs-utils (ecryptfs-utils 104-1) from the arch repo and did
the following as configuration:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ECryptfs#Without_ecryptfs-utils

The described setup above is currently working on an ext4 arch 64 bit
system but not on btrfs system...

A copy or move with nautilus to Private folder results in file(s) with 0 bytes
(on all file formats I have tested).
A cp or mv to Private folder results in proper amount of bytes but something is
also wrong as
thumbnails for jpg are not showing in Private folder with nautilus although
thumbnails are enabled. So maybe header is getting corrupted or something.
I also tested avi and tga but these did give me thumbnails. I have not tested
other file formats at this time.

[Bug 1305335] Re: Cutting or copying files on btrfs to ecryptfs results in data loss

2015-02-20 Thread Rocko
The 3.19 kernel still has the problem.

You can reproduce it by copying a test file from say /home into an
encrypted home directory using --reflink:

echo test /home/test
cp --reflink=always /home/test ~
ls -l ~/test # This shows 0 bytes

This command, however, copies the file correctly, assuming you haven't
aliased cp to use reflink:

echo test /home/test
cp /home/test ~
ls -l ~/test # This shows 5 bytes

nautilus is using the g_local_file_copy library command in glib, which
since automatically applies reflink since 2.36.4 (libglib2.0-bin is at
2.43.4-1 in Vivid). See the comment at
http://upstream.rosalinux.ru/changelogs/glib/2.36.4/changelog.html,
where it lists Btrfs clone/reflink ioctl support in g_local_file_copy
as one of the changes.

So one solution would seem to be to modify the copy functionality to
disable reflink (or disallow the copy) if it detects it is copying into
a mounted ecryptfs directory (eg using /proc/mounts) from a directory
that is not in the same mount.

Presumably ecryptfs intercepts the copy request, so perhaps the check
should be done in ecryptfs?

Just to note: in the example commands above, of course, /home needs to
be write-accessible to the current user, or you need to use a command
like su root -c echo test /home/test.

[Bug 1414707] Re: Login fails, returns to login and flickering prevents password typing

2015-02-20 Thread Jiri Grönroos
I too have this issue with a fresh vivid installation. In my case this
isn't a virtual machine. Booting with the default options, logging into
Gnome Shell from gdm, and bam, the screen is locked instantly. Lock
screen flickers and gives authentication error.

I bypassed this problem by going into tty and restarting gdm (sudo
service gdm restart). Second login attempt doesn't lock the session
instantly. I can also confirm that by selecting the systemd boot option
the issue doesn't persist.

There's something in dmesg when booting without systemd, but with
systemd the following dmesg output doesn't exist:

dmesg |grep logind

[6.988059] systemd-logind[1754]: Watching system buttons on
/dev/input/event1 (Power Button)
[6.988085] systemd-logind[1754]: Watching system buttons on

unit: user@120.service
[6.992441] systemd-logind[1754]: New session c1 of user gdm.
[ 21.103729] systemd-logind[1754]: Failed to start user service: Unknown
unit: user@1000.service
[ 21.105989] systemd-logind[1754]: New session c2 of user myusername.
[ 56.858239] systemd-logind[1754]: Removed session c1.
[ 63.669131] systemd-logind[1754]: New session c3 of user gdm.
[ 70.428732] systemd-logind[1754]: New session c4 of user myusername.

[ 56.858239] systemd-logind[1754]: Removed session c1. - this is the
output when restarting gdm from tty.

Hopefully this helps a little bit.

Also, just to confirm, this issue only happens if you copy the files
using Nautilus? It does not happen if you copy from a terminal?

[Bug 1305335] Re: Cutting or copying files on btrfs to ecryptfs results in data loss

2015-02-20 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1339244] Re: Comparison of exit_status in run_custom_command is wrong

2015-02-20 Thread Fadi Mouqayed
Considering the fact that this bug makes it difficult to use a custom
input device configuration in Ubuntu 14.04, I will try to make the case
for a Trusty SRU. I normally use the hotplug-command facility to
configure touchpad parameters that aren't exposed by the GNOME UI. FWIW,
I can confirm that the Utopic package (Which includes the fix) works
without issues.

[Impact]

* Due to this bug, using a custom input device configuration is made
unnecessarily difficult out-of-the-box with 14.04. The GNOME
documentation asserts that the official way of doing persistent custom
persistent device configurations is by using the hotplug-command
GSettings Entry combined with a shell script. This, however, does not
work at the time of writing.

* As a result, a user who wishes to use a custom input device
configuration is forced to use less-than-optimal workarounds such as
disabling the GSettings mouse plugin altogether, which also has the
potentially unwanted side-effect of disabling the Mouse/Touchpad
configuration UI as well.

[Test Case]

* A simple test program is included within the description of the
upstream GNOME Bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=710791
and can be used to confirm that GSD is getting the correct exit code.

[Regression Potential]

* Minimal. The proposed patch only fixes the extraction/comparison of
the exit status and has been proven to work on 14.10.

[Bug 1305335] Re: Cutting or copying files on btrfs to ecryptfs results in data loss

2015-02-20 Thread lunomad
Hi Joseph,

This bug freaked me out so much I re-formatted to EXT4 and started over.
I don't have a system that I can test this on now.

The bug appeared on a completely fresh install of 14.04 beta 2 and the
bug was still present in the release.

Unfortunately, I never had any experience with BTRFS prior so I can't
tell you how it worked before. As I recall, I had success doing copies
via the terminal command line using CP -R, so I assumed the bug was in
how nautilus handled file copies. My experience also was that once I
got a file INTO the private directory, I was able to open, edit, and
save correctly without error.

Still, the whole thing sent shivers up my spine, and I'm not as
technically-abled as others on this bug. I had to dump BTRFS as soon as
I could.
