[Bug 1240336] Re: After release upgrade, the user looses permissions for several basic actions in the system

2017-05-02 Thread Shubham Lakshetti
Actually, it works for installing packages from software center (auth dialog
appears), still fails silently sometimes (for example when I try to remove
software source PPA).

I also created a new admin user, by running sudo gnome-control-center ->
Users & Groups.
For that user everything works fine.

This appears to be a recurring bug which has been reported on Launchpad
back in 2013. Every version of ubuntu since is affected by this but not
everyone sees the error. On the moment I write this (march 2015) there's
no permanent solution, however there are workarounds to solve the
problem.

For Ubuntu 14.10 the problem appears to be related to the package
ulatencyd. Removing this package causes the error to disappear in my
situation. If I recall correctly I've installed this package manually on
a certain moment in time so it does not belong to a standard install and
therefore this might not affect everyone.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2017-05-02 Thread Norbert
I reported new bug 1687588 about text blinking on selection with
while layout switcher is set to .

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Can't set keyboard layout change to Ctrl+Shift, Caps Lock, Alt+Shift,
etc. Shift, Caps Lock keys are just ignored in settings.

  [Test Case]

  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the "next layout key" entry
  - try entering a combination of two modifier keys such as Ctrl+Shift
-> the UI should reflect the new keys

  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
- settings
+   settings
  - press and release Ctrl+Shift
-> the current input source should change

  [Regression Potential]

That UI was not working before, it should only be an improvement (some
key combos are not working as expected, that's another issue and
shouldn't be mixed with this one)

The input switching shortcut might capture other non-modifier shortcuts,
but users will need to consider this when choosing their switching
shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects, this represents a working
  solution for a critical bug.

  --

Test results for different keyboard layout change hotkeys may be viewed
and added in the Google Docs table, created by Norbert

[Bug 1175608] Re: Thumbnails too small in 'open file' dialog nautilus

2017-05-02 Thread Vasiliy Fontanenko
2017 ubuntu 16.04 Unity out of the box. Same thing. Very ugly. It is
almost impossible to find necessary files if you have hundreds of them
for example in camera folder. Have to open standalone Files window, look
for files I need and then find those files by name in Open Files dialog.
Very very disappointing thing. I think priority should be increased
because this is vital common feature.

[Bug 1687647] [NEW] udev version 232-21ubuntu3 from ports is broken on Zesty s390x

2017-05-02 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

I'm attempting to install some cert tools on a z/KVM instance of Zesty.
This is failing because udev exits with an error during installation.
The apt logs show this:

Setting up udev (232-21ubuntu3) ...
addgroup: The group `input' already exists as a system group. Exiting.
cat: '/sys/class/net/eth*/address': No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing package udev (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

and because of that, all other packages up the dependency chain fail to
install.

Interestingly, this is resolved by installing the older version of udev
and libudev1

[Bug 1645631] Re: Sending files fails because obex not loaded

Thanks for reporting, I was just struck by this bug on 17.04.

For a fix which lasts across reboots, run as normal user:
systemctl --user enable obex

This permanently enables OBEX service for your user sessions.

[Bug 1636666] Re: [MIR] pcre2

2017-05-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** No longer affects: vte2.91 (Ubuntu)

** No longer affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

  Availability

Synced with Debian. Built for all supported architectures.

  Rationale
  =
  Required by gnome-terminal 3.22+ and vte2.91 0.46+

  Security

At least one open security issue, affecting Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/pkg/pcre2.html
  https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/source-package/pcre2
  https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=pcre

  Quality assurance
  =
  - Please subscribe Ubuntu Desktop Bugs or Ubuntu Foundation Bugs (like pcre3)
to this package.
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pcre2
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=pcre2

Upstream tests are run during the build but there is no autopkgtest

Does not have 3.0 (quilt) set

  Dependencies

Only build-dependencies are dpkg and debhelper. No other added dependencies.

  Standards compliance

  3.9.6

  Maintenance
  ===
  - Actively developed upstream
  http://pcre.org/

  Background information
  ==
As the package description states, the older version of this library is
confusingly named pcre3 in Debian/Ubuntu. pcre3 is already in Ubuntu main.

+
+ https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/transitions/html/pcre2.html
+
  Other Info
  ==
In the original release of pcre2 in Jan 2015, the author says this is not
just a drastic update to the original pcre but a "new project". He felt free to
change names and options.
  https://lists.exim.org/lurker/message/20150105.162835.0666407a.en.html

pcre3 has gotten some bugfix releases since then (from 8.36 to 8.40
  released Jan 2017)
