[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows
I sometimes find that not only mouse clicks get blocked, but everything except ubuntu-dock and the Activities overview stops accepting input. (I can't ALT-F2 to restart gnome, and I can't ALT-tab between apps.) On a couple of occasions I found that it was a single app that had captured input (and crashed), and quitting the rogue app via ubuntu-dock or the Activities overview fixed the issue. But this isn't always possible because some applications put up a dialog asking if you want to quit, and since you can't click on the dialog box, you can't quit them. Is the bug I'm describing related to this one, or something different? FWIW, I did find that "killall -3 gnome-shell" will restart the shell without closing your applications if you can manage to get to a tty console. Is there a way to restart the shell from the Activities overview? That would be a good workaround for this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181666 Title: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1181666/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I've not yet been able to reproduce this yet, but while investigating I've found that the cache folder for gnome-software (and therefore the gnome software flatpak plugin) has changed from 17.10 to 18.04 - so it might not be an issue for "real" users upgrading from 17.10? Eg the flatpak plugin cache folder has changed in the following ways for me: 17.10 ~/.cache/gnome-software/3.26/flatpak 18.04 ~/.cache/gnome-software/flatpak Although this does raise, why is the cache folder not ~/.cache/gnome- software/3.28 ? *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1749546 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1749546 I'll dupe this to the other slowness bug, it's probably the same thing. What I found out before ali1234 came up with his analysis is that gsd- xsettings is taking a really long time to start up. If you get in while it's grinding, you can see that it's setting up its fontconfig monitor at the time. So it's probably the same thing. Other things in the session startup rely on gsd-xsettings being ready, and they time out when it isn't. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1749546 Booting a live session is slow -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1750846 Title: several g-s-d services are timing out when booting a live session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1750846/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1756695] Re: gnome-software crashed with signal 5 in g_dbus_proxy_call_sync → fwupd_client_get_upgrades → gs_plugin_fwupd_add_updates → gs_plugin_loader_call_vfunc
Unfortunately this stack trace is client side, but we don't know what actually happened on the daemon during this situation to get to the bottom of the problem. Can you reproduce this again? Thank you for your bug report, could you give some details - where do you pick the language? on the syslinux first text based boot? or in the installer? - do you use the install only mode or the live session? - is that specific to that language or do you see similar issues in other locales?
