[Bug 1789749] Re: Virtual desktops are shown in the middle of screen in GNOME Shell

2018-08-30 Thread Eduardo Medina
It seems I didn't do a good explanation.

With the "I think is a general bug" sentence I tried to say that it
doesn't mind the GPU configuration.

I don't see the same flaw in Fedora 28, that uses the same version of
GNOME.

The only thing you have to do to reproduce the bug is to "smack" the top
left corner with a file, dragging it with mouse cursor, in gnome-session
of activating the hot corner with tweak tools y Ubuntu session.

[Bug 1790010] [NEW] Default cursor size over dock after login

2018-08-30 Thread Rowan
Public bug reported:

Dock, dash and top bar do not respect cursor size setting from
"Settings" (gnome-control-center) straight after login.

Occurring in Ubuntu 18.04.1, on two machines.

Expected behaviour: cursor size set to medium (32px) or large (48px?)
should remain consistent between windows, desktop and dock/dash/top bar.

Observed behaviour: cursor shrinks to default (24px) when hovering over
dock/dash/top bar. If the cursor state changes (e.g. to loading spin
wheel) the cursor fixes itself.

Not sure whether it is a bug in GNOME or the shell extension.

Sizes set using "gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size
32" and "gsettings set com.ubuntu.user-interface.desktop cursor-size 32"
exhibit the same behaviour.

[Bug 1789922] Re: Resize is broken

2018-08-30 Thread Phillip Susi
Actually it looks like it's gnome-disk-utility that does the unmount and
throws the error. I can't for the life of me figure out this rat nest
of code though. In gduresizedialog.c, resize() calls
gdu_utils_ensure_unused() and passes it unmount_cb(), which appears to
be what is throwing that error message after the unmount fails. What I
can't see is where the actual unmount is done.
gdu_utils_ensure_unused() appears to call g_task_new to set up a task to
invoke that callback after the task itself as run, but I see no call to
g_task_run_in_thread() which would actually specify the task function to
run, and make it run.

** Package changed: udisks2 (Ubuntu) => gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1789943] Re: Ubuntu Software only show snap app's wiithout any explanations or advices

2018-08-30 Thread Coeur Noir
** Description changed:

  Hi,

for a moment now, I noticed on Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 that Ubuntu
  Software only show snap app's.

Problem : there is no easy to read « label » or « warning » regarding
snap, and how they can be « configured ».

Consequence : many users and not only beginners ask help on forums
because their FireFox or Gimp can't access such folder, such partition,
such usb key, because they can't find config' files in usual place,
because such app launches slowly, other looks out of place, other is not
localized in their language, and so on…

  What I may expect :
  - enable / disable snap listing,
  - when snap app shown : the word snap bold in its name or a label or a flashy
header that leads to advices about how to correctly set and use snap,
- - by default, disable snap in LTS version.
+ - by default, disable snap in LTS version ( where apt/deb and official
repositories sound careful ),
+ - or give priority to legacy packaging and show snap only when nothing else
available for such app.
+
+ I consider this as a bug because it gets many users « lost » with a not
+ so good experience with common and often already known and loved
+ softwares.
+
+ I know snap keeps improving but they may not provide the same reliable
+ and predictable experience as « legacy » packaging - hence the LTS note.

2018-08-30 Thread sibe39
I agree !

Canonical should not impose snap, this should remain a secondary
alternative that should not be prioritized over classic apt
repositories.

A snap should only appear if there is no alternative!

Snap has a lot of inconvenience.

[Bug 1789943] [NEW] Ubuntu Software only show snap app's wiithout any explanations or advices

2018-08-30 Thread Coeur Noir
Public bug reported:

Hi,

for a moment now, I noticed on Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 that Ubuntu
Software only show snap app's.

Problem : there is no easy to read « label » or « warning » regarding
snap, and how they can be « configured ».

Consequence : many users and not only beginners ask help on forums
because their FireFox or Gimp can't access such folder, such partition,
such usb key, because they can't find config' files in usual place,
because such app launches slowly, other looks out of place, other is not
localized in their language, and so on…

What I may expect :
- enable / disable snap listing,
- when snap app shown : the word snap bold in its name or a label or a flashy
header that leads to advices about how to correctly set and use snap,
- by default, disable snap in LTS version ( where apt/deb and official
repositories sound careful ),
- or give priority to legacy packaging and show snap only when nothing else
available for such app.

I consider this as a bug because it gets many users « lost » with a not
so good experience with common and often already known and loved
softwares.

I know snap keeps improving but they may not provide the same reliable
and predictable experience as « legacy » packaging - hence the LTS note.

[Bug 1790039] [NEW] "grave" and "Above_Tab" is not detected as conflict in Keyboard Shortcut Settings

2018-08-30 Thread Joboy Jordan
Public bug reported:

"grave" and "Above_Tab" is not detected as conflict in Keyboard Shortcut
Settings causing for " + `" shortcut to trigger both
"['grave']" and "['Above_Tab']" keyboard shortcuts
intermittently and unpredictably

HOW TO REPLICATE:
- In Keyboard Settings UI, change the "Hide Window" action to use " + `"
(key above tab)
- Doing this will result in dconf to have a value of "minimize" dconf key to:
  - [org/gnome/desktop/wm/keybindings]
  - minimize=['grave']
- At this point I'm expecting Keyboard Settings UI to detect this as conflict
and remove keyboard shortcut for "switch-group"/"Switch windows of an
application" which has default keyboard shortcut of:
  - ['Above_Tab','Above_Tab']

ROOT CAUSE:
- from Keyboard Settings UI, "`" key produces "grave" in dconf settings
- while default keyboard shortcuts use "Above_Tab" or via dconf-editor

WORKAROUND:
- just remove manually the shortcut ['Above_Tab'] from switch-group via
dconf-editor or disable from Keyboard Settings UI

[Bug 1720213] Re: Word moving with left-arrow-ctrl broken in wayland

2018-08-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't think this bug is valid. If somekey++Ctrl works the same
as Ctrl+somekey in Xorg then that's interesting, but not normal
recommended behavior. Your should always be holding the modifier (Ctrl)
first.

So this bug is being marked as "Opinion". If you disagree then please
report the bug to the Gnome developers here:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/new

and if they accept it then we can reopen.

[Bug 1789749] Re: Virtual desktops are shown in the middle of screen in GNOME Shell

2018-08-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

+
+ ---
+
Hi, since I use Ubuntu 18.04 with GNOME Shell I see that the virtual
desktops panel is shown in the middle of screen when I drag a file to
the Activities corner. I didn't see this behavior in 17.10, so it's
  really strange for me.

I really like gnome-session, but I drag a lot of files through
Activities, so to not see the bug I'm forced to use the Ubuntu session
(now communitheme). Yes, it's really annoying.

I share a file to show how is the bug.

  I'm using:
  -Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit.
-GNOME 3.28.2 (provided by official repos).
-Linux 4.15.0-33-generic (but I saw the bug in all previous kernels released
Ubuntu 18.04).

I saw the bug in two different GPUs:
-[AMD/ATI] RV630/M76 [Mobility Radeon HD 2600] with Mesa and free Radeon
driver provided by official repos.
-MSI NVIDIA GTX 1050 with official proprietary driver.

I think is a general bug.

[Bug 1789962] Re: gnome-shell segfaults in Wayland when display is turned off while Kodi running

2018-08-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

2018-08-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can't find any other reports of this crash yet.

You do seem to have a few extensions installed:

b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['places-menu@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'clipboard-indica...@tudmotu.com',
'onboard_indica...@onboard.org', 'straighttop...@peclu.net.net',

extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'always-show-workspa...@system76.com',
'extendedgestu...@mpiannucci.github.com',
'slideforkeybo...@simon.schumann.web.de']"

Please try removing all of them and see if that fixes the problem. If so
then we would need to find out which extension it is.

2018-08-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If the EDID and mode info is being logged repeatedly that would usually
mean the monitor is getting disconnected and reconnected. So please try:

  (a) Fully unplugging and re-plugging the monitor into the system. Make sure
it's got a good connection.
  (b) A different VGA cable, if you have one.

It's strange that the messages would correlate with any app usage
though...

Done, even blew out the connectors. Don't have another cable at the
moment. As far as I can tell it's only Evo that causes this. There are
only 3 that I use almost constantly. Ubuntu Firefox, Evo and Xfe file

I've just tested this on 16.04 with Intel graphics on Unity, and the
colour profile is maintained correctly after the screensaver and unlock.

So that makes me think the problem is specific to GNOME or Nvidia.

Please try logging into Unity and see if the problem persists there.

If the problem remains then maybe also consider uninstalling the Nvidia
driver (which appears to be an unofficial unsupported version) and see
if it continues using the default nouveau driver.

  Hello!

I find that in Gnome Shell 3.29.90 (Wayland session) attempt to copy text
with Ctrl+Shift+C in Gnome Terminal cause interrupt (Ctrl+C) for running
program. This happen even when I do this inside virt-viewer connection to
virtual machine.
Other related hotkeys such as Ctrl+Shift+V, Ctrl+Shift+T also won't work.

- A also find that switch keyboard layout with default Alt+Shift cause
- Opera display it's menu (seems like this is reaction to Alt like it was

- reproducible if user press Shift first, however many people used to hold
- Alt first and then press Shift.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1768597] Re: [needs-packaging] package filemanager-actions missing

2018-08-30 Thread flo schneider
You can use this ppa meanwhile

ppa:tomtomtom/filemanager-actions

https://launchpad.net/~tomtomtom/+archive/ubuntu/filemanager-actions

thus, proper debian source packaging already exists, so putting into
repository should be rather easy ;-)

but as debian upstream also does not have the package, and ubuntu is
largely dependend on this, I would file a bug at debian to include fma,
as it then gets into ubuntu repos anyways.

[Bug 1787362] Re: gnome-shell UI unresponsive

2018-08-30 Thread Nikolay Petrov
I experience very similar situation.

1. I have only one active Gnome Shell extension: "Disable Gestures" which gives
me a desirable feature - to disable all multi-finger touch screen gestures.
I just disabled it to see if that will resolve the issue.

2. Indeed, I found that sometimes clicking on app windows is affected,
but the shell panel - not.

3. I have not tried Xorg sessions while this occurs. I will on next
occasion.

[Bug 1244548] Re: Keyboard shortcut for changing keyboard layout does not work on lock and login screen

2018-08-30 Thread Sergey Elizov
In my case changing doesn't work when both combinations use same keys,
like [Ctrl+Shift L] and [Shift+Ctrl L]

This works for me:
Switch to next source = Ctrl+Shift L
Switch to previous source = Ctrl+Shift R

[Bug 1508146] Re: Alt+left/right arrows switch between tty consoles (Gnome Shell vanishes), cannot disable

2018-08-30 Thread Miguel Prates
Hi, I'm having the same problem with 18.04.
The command "sudo kbd_mode -s" (scancode (RAW) mode) works fine as well as the
"-k" argument (key code mode (MEDIUMRAW)) as well. As opposed, "-u" (UTF-8
(UNICODE) mode) and "-a" (ASCII mode (XLATE)) arguments bring the bug back.
