[Bug 1901631] [NEW] flameshot, yubico authenticator app indicator icons missing on login

2020-10-26 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

This problem seems to come and go. It was gone in Ubuntu 20.04 and it's
back in Ubuntu 20.10.

I have both Flameshot and Yubico Authenticator configured to launch on
login. They are supposed to put app indicator icons in the top bar. The
icons are not there even though both apps are running.

To get the icons I have to kill the apps and run them again.

[Bug 1824260] Re: wrong kerning in SS-5 PDF form fields

2020-10-26 Thread xiota
CourierStd is not defined in any of the config files at
`/etc/fonts/conf.d`, so it falls back to sans-serif, not monospace. On
my computer, the sans-serif fallback is set to Ubuntu.

In config files at `/etc/fonts/conf.d`, creating duplicate rules for
"CourierStd" each time "Courier" or "Courier New" is mentioned should
fix the problem.

On my computer, `grep -Rl Courier` lists the following files:

30-metric-aliases.conf
45-latin.conf
60-latin.conf

Using `apt-file search`, the package those files belong to is
`fontconfig-config`.

[Bug 1824260] Re: wrong kerning in SS-5 PDF form fields

2020-10-26 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Right xiota, and I think adding CourierStd to 45-latin.conf is
sufficient.

I could reproduce the problem on Ubuntu 20.10, so it's not a Kubuntu
specific issue as I first suspected. Instead, just as you said, it's
because CourierStd isn't currently mentioned anywhere in the config
files.

Proposed fix attached as a debdiff.

[Bug 1901315] Re: Missing shortcuts for moving window to workspace right or left

2020-10-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like the keyboard options for move-to-workspace-left/right were
hidden in Gnome 3.28 onward.

commit dc37ee27824b7c28f377286b3f9ebba1c56283d8
Author: Florian Müllner
Date: Wed Jan 24 16:52:23 2018 +0100

data: Don't expose horizontal workspace keybindings to Settings

Given that GNOME has used a vertical workspace layout ever since 3.0,
allowing users to assign keyboard shortcuts for horizontal workspace
navigation isn't useful at all, as rightfully pointed out by Bastien
Nocera.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=645460

---

BUT, the internal settings still exist. You can get to them with the
'gsettings' command and:

org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings move-to-workspace-right

org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings move-to-workspace-left

[Bug 1901150] Re: No "Are you sure?" question when deleting something from Desktop

2020-10-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think most of us agree it was an undesirable change. It was made by
the upstream developers a couple of years ago now. The reasoning is
detailed in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/158

We can't just reintroduce nautilus-desktop either. The change was huge,
a long time ago (so can't just be reversed) and there's nobody to
support it.

But I totally agree nautilus-desktop was better than gnome-shell-
extension-desktop-icons.

[Bug 1901150] Re: No "Are you sure?" question when deleting something from Desktop

2020-10-26 Thread Adam Dingle
Adam Niedling: That's a long story. Very briefly, about 2 years ago the
GNOME project, which develops Nautilus, decided to remove support for
desktop icons from Nautilus, controversially:

  https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2018/01/gnome-desktop-icons-removed-3-28

Ubuntu still wants desktop icons, so it needs to implement them in some
other way, and so it uses the Desktop Icons shell extension.

As Paddy mentioned above, there is a newer version of Desktop Icons
called Desktop Icons NG, which is under active development:

  https://gitlab.com/rastersoft/desktop-icons-ng

I myself run Desktop Icons NG too. It is still a long way from having
all the functionality of Nautilus, but it is slowly getting better.

I also hope that Ubuntu will switch to Desktop Icons NG sooner or later.

[Bug 1901187] Re: Keyboard layout switch problem

2020-10-26 Thread Andrew Khalymon
Reproducible on desktop system (Lenovo Thinkstation S30) with Ubuntu 20.04.1
LTS with Gnome Shell 3.36.4-1ubuntu1~20.04.2.
Steps: log in, physically unplug USB keyboard, plug it again.
Keyboard switchers show the switching happens, but layout is not changing
actually.

It's also reproducible on Thinkpad X230 with exactly the same package versions.
Keyboard is Logitech K780, same for both systems. I've also tried another
keyboard (some A4Tech one), the problem is reproducible with it too.

It's not reproducible for me with suspend and resume, only in the
conditions mentioned above.

Here is dmesg output from my system during keyboard plug/unplug.

I can provide additional information if needed.

I didn't about that bug.
But how come that it was implemented in 18.04 and it's not implemented in 20.04?

What was the point of this change? Now everything has to be implemented

Yes, unfortunately--I disabled extensions with the main toggle at the

the on-screen keyboard on my touchscreen laptop after interacting with
the touchscreen. ("Screen Keyboard" is still disabled in "Universal
Access.")

Thank you; I appreciate your help troubleshooting this.

This looks like it might be related to bug 1872159, which can also occur

I have many (over 5, usually) windows opened on my desktop; dragging a

That would be great if I could enable and disable those features with
dconf-editor or something similar (even with a simple conf file(s)).

No, I mentioned about that option, edge-tiling, in my first sentence to
avoid misunderstanding >> I know there is an option to enable or disable
edge-tiling feature.<<. What I talked about is interactions between
window and screen edges/bounds themselves. When I drag a window it
sticks to another window edge until I've moved my cursor further away
(like ~20 pixels) only then the window releases and continues to be
dragged by the mouse.

Or another example: when I want to place the half of my window outside
the screen I start dragging it and when the edge of the window hits the
edge of the screen it stops even I continue dragging, after ~20 pixel
away the window releases and continues following my cursor.

The option "edge-tiling" provides interaction only between window and
screen bounds with resizing and tiling them.

I don't *always* want this, so disabling tiling feature entirely isn't a
good option for me. Maybe we could make it an opt-in/opt-out sort of
toggle, with the default state being that windows wile tile unless a
certain key is pressed? The setting could toggle whether that key press
turns the feature temporarily on or off.

2020-10-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[Regression from 20.04]

Tested using Ubuntu 20.10 on Both Xorg and Wayland.

Earlier (and expected behaviour):

On pressing Ctrl+Alt+shift+r , a screen record would start, accompanied
by an orange icon on the top bar. On pressing it again, the screen
recording would stop and get saved into ~/Videos.

Current behaviour:

Pressing the key combo does nothing. There is no icon on the top bar,
and the recording is not created.

[Bug 1824260] Re: wrong kerning in SS-5 PDF form fields

On 2020-10-26 10:33, Sebastien Bacher wrote:
> Gunnar do you have any clue maybe about the issue there or an

One thing I know is that no Ubuntu font is mentioned at all in the
default fontconfig configuration, neither on Ubuntu nor Kubuntu.

But the dconf settings differ.

Ubuntu:

$ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface font-name
'Ubuntu 11'
$ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface monospace-font-name
'Ubuntu Mono 13'

Kubuntu:

$ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface font-name
'Noto Sans, 10'
$ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface monospace-font-name
'Monospace 11'

My gut feeling tells me that the comma in 'Noto Sans, 10' should not be
there, and that it might cause confusion.

This is one thing I would try on Kubuntu:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface font-name 'Noto Sans 10'

However, while I checked this on my groovy installs, the bug reporter
seems to be on Kubuntu 18.04. So things may be different there.

[Bug 1901538] [NEW] Output Device selection messed (Line Out <-> HDMI)

2020-10-26 Thread Florian Schwarz
Public bug reported:

[System]
- Freshly installed Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS with 3rd party software/drivers enabled
- pulseaudio 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.7
- NVIDIA graphics card (GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost) using nvidia-driver-450
- Monitor with build-in (stereo) speakers connected via HDMI to graphics card
- External (stereo) speakers connected via audio jack to mainboard

[Expected Behavior]

1. Go to "Settings" -> "Sound" -> "Output" -> "Output Device"
2. Switch from "HDMI / DisplayPort 2 - GK106 HDMI Audio Controller" to "Line
Out - Built-in Audio"
3. The switching should enable the chosen output device.

[Bug Description and Behavior]

If I switch from "HDMI / DisplayPort 2 - GK106 HDMI Audio Controller" to
"Line Out - Built-in Audio" and test the output, sound comes still from
monitor speakers and not from my external speakers.

[Workaround]

While "HDMI / DisplayPort 2 - GK106 HDMI Audio Controller" selected, go
to "Configuration" and switch from "Digital Stereo (HDMI 2) Output" to
"Digital Surround 5.1 (HDMI 2) Output". Instantly "Configuration" row
disappears, in Output Device "Line Out - Built-in Audio" is selected and
external speakers are active.

[Further comments]

I'm affected by this bug and the "wrong audio output on every reboot/wake
up/login" since upgrade to 20.04 but the latter may be worth another bug report
or maybe you could guide me to an active bug report that isn't linked to a
previous Ubuntu version and already marked as fixed.
At first I thought it may be caused by failed upgrade or my system
configurations, but now I tested with a freshly installed Ubuntu on a spare SSD
and the problem still exists, so here I am.

[Bug 1865226] Re: gdm-smartcard pam config needs to be updated for Ubuntu and installed

2020-10-26 Thread Eric Desrochers
I unfortunately don't have a smartcard device handy to test/debug/
but if I compare with RHEL which is known to be working...

Redhat has the following configuration "gdm-smarcard" which includes
"smartcard-auth", a symlink pointing to "smartcard-auth-local"

I think we should 'mimic' this (at least as a starting point) without
the selinux and other RHEL specific bits.

[Bug 1779890] Re: Nautilus does not use a valid Kerberos ticket when accessing Samba share

2020-10-26 Thread Val
The upstream determined that gvfsd as a systemd user session is starting
too early in Ubuntu, before the desktop enviroment variables are set.
Specifically, KRB5CCNAME env var is missing at the time gvfsd is
started, causing this bug. See the detailed report at
ttps://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/481

CentOS 8 and Fedora 32 apparently fixed this problem by changing the
default preset mechanism for user units, aligning them with the default
preset for system units:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Systemd_presets_for_user_units

Indeed, there is no good reason to treat user services differently than
system services with respect to the default presets. The default preset
for user units should be changed to "disable *".

[Bug 1901446] Re: Add gir1.2-tepl-5 package depedency

2020-10-26 Thread Jeffery To
I would argue that this is more a bug than a wishlist item.

Functionality is being moved from gedit into tepl (a "Text editor
product line" library). For instance, gedit_utils_str_middle_truncate()
was deprecated in gedit 3.36 and removed in 3.38[1], replaced with
tepl_utils_str_middle_truncate().

For my plugin Control Your Tabs, I had to inline the function[2] because
I couldn't count on users (on Debian and Debian-derived OSes) having
gir1.2-tepl-5 installed so that I could call
tepl_utils_str_middle_truncate(). (Contrast this with the Fedora tepl
rpm, which has the GObject introspection binding included in the same
package[3] and so does not have this problem.)

Should I file an issue upstream (Debian)? Would submitting a patch help?

Also notice that setting apparmor in complain mode for usr.bin.evolution
is not enough to get it working. You have to disable the profile...

[Bug 1901567] [NEW] bwrap: setting up uid map: Permission denied (with Apparmor)

2020-10-26 Thread Franck
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Ubuntu 20.04 to 20.10, evolution is unable to
display my mails.

Launching from a shell, I get this error message: "bwrap: setting up uid
map: Permission denied"

Also, double clicking on a mail shows: "Something has gone wrong when
displaying the message
A WebKitWebProcess crashed when displaying the message. You can try again by
moving to another message and back. If the issue persists, please file a bug
report in GNOME Gitlab."

I found this Archlinux thread
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=259928 regarding the problem.
A workaround is proposed, that consists in exporting
WEBKIT_FORCE_SANDBOX=0 before running Evolution. This works.

Notice I have Apparmor enforced. Disableing Apparomor for
usr.bin.evolution also works around the problem.

Both are not required, either one is sufficient. I guess a modification
in apparmor profile is necessary, but I'm not sure I can figure out out
to do that...

[Bug 1892358] Re: autopkgtest success rate dropped inhibiting proposed migration

2020-10-26 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Christian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted systemd into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/237-3ubuntu10.43 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.
