Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. [Bug 253250] Re: Dual monitors, but always same content?
Using displayconfig-gtk isn't a good idea, and can lead to an even more broken config. Even if it does give the illusion that it works, it isn't the correct way to do it. The most likely culprit is having no virtual screen size defined in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which is a known bug. Please post all of the information requested by Jon anyway. In addition, please try adding a virtual screen size as explained in http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Xorg_RandR_1.2#the_Virtual_screen. In addition, you could try booting with the external screen already connected to see if yuor results are different. [Bug 258145] Re: gnome-session-properties fails to create entries if .config/autostart is missing
James There is a function ensure_user_autostart_dir () which creates the autostart folder, but that is never called when you create a new session entry. All of the work to create the .desktop file is done in key_file_to_file (), which doesn't actually create the folder. The attached debdiff fixes this. Tested here and it seems to work as expected. ** Attachment added: gnome-session_2.23.6-0ubuntu3.debdiff http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16886533/gnome-session_2.23.6-0ubuntu3.debdiff -- gnome-session-properties fails to create entries if .config/autostart is missing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258145 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 258983] Re: gnome-setting-daemon segfaults on volume change
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. As you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Once you have restarted, repeat the steps necessary to recreate the crash. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. If the NVIDIA driver is not explicitly enabled in your xorg.conf, then Xorg will not load it. That error you see is because there is no compatible NVIDIA driver found (because it isn't loaded). Your Xorg log file from the attempt when you ran with the NVIDIA driver shows that the driver loading ok but can't read the EDID for your display. [Bug 212098] Re: easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login
Jessie - The problem isn't that the Samba daemon needs restarting. The problem is that nautilus-share (which was introduced in to Hardy) uses a feature of Samba called 'usershare', which allows the administrator to control who can add shares. The administrator does this by adding users to the 'sambashare' group. Members of this group can then add and remove shares. The maintainer scripts for Samba automatically add all users who are members of group 'admin' to group 'sambashare' when Samba is installed. However, the user won't belong to this group until they log out and back in again (and I don't think that there is any way around that). This wasn't a problem in Gutsy because the usershare feature wasn't used, and users were not added to a new group when Samba was installed. In Gutsy, only administrators could add/remove shares. Hope that clarifies it a bit. -- easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 212098] Re: easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login
Mark, I'm not sure it is that simple with the current Samba implementation, because it isn't a case of Samba querying whether the user belongs to the correct group or not when a share is created. The Nautilus-share extension (running with normal user privileges) needs write access to /var/lib/samba/usershares in order to create a share. Only root and members of 'sambashare' can write to this directory, and this is the Samba implementation of controlling who can add shares. This problem is purely down to the user not immediately gaining the privileges to write to this folder, when they are added to the group. Unfortunately, I think this can only be solved by logging out and back in again. Maybe this situation could be improved with Policykit in the future. -- easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 263012] Re: Opening a folder link should show the path to the folder
I think you are confusing symbolic links with 'links' in Windows. The two concepts are very different. Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link for a brief explanation of symbolic links in Linux. Symbolic links are meant to operate completely transparently to the applications that are using them, and are a feature of POSIX operating systems. A lot of things rely on the functionality provided by symbolic links, and you couldn't just change the behaviour of them. If you want an icon on your desktop that behaves like a Windows shortcut, then you need to right click and create a new launcher as opposed to creating a symbolic link. If you wanted a launcher to point to /home/foo/bar, then the command required in the launcher would be: nautilus --no-desktop /home/foo/bar I'm closing this bug report as it doesn't really describe a bug.
