[Bug 234911] Re: copy/paste bug in gedit leads to corrupted files
Right to follow this up... I am getting very similar behavior with this system setup: Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 gedit 2.28.0 Bus 002 Device 005: ID 045e:0039 Microsoft Corp. IntelliMouse Optical To reproduce this behavior you open the text editor as the previous user says choose an item to copy and copy it. Scroll with the mouse wheel say two line to see more text on the page then click one right click and paste and nothing appears where you pasted but it does appear somewhere else in the document. Clicking edit undo will let you find where gedit has placed the text. This is causing corruption in my programming. The solution to the bug as it stands might give a clue as to what the issue is. You must click twice on the paste location and then gedit pastes where it should do. This also happens when scrolling with the mouse button and pressing it to paste what you have selected. The text is getting pasted off screen so that is why it is hard to notice it going on. You could assume that the copy/paste failed and try again each time corrupting your work more and more. Any further info just ask. -- copy/paste bug in gedit leads to corrupted files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/234911 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 234911] Re: copy/paste bug in gedit leads to corrupted files
Compiz is the issue here when it is set to normal mode the copy paste bug in gedit appears. When we turn on advanced settings the copy and paste bug seems to disappear in part see below. We turn it off and it it seems to have gone completely. The select, copy and click on new location and paste bit works fine. This has uncovered a new bug this happens whether compiz is on or off : Highlight a bit of text and clicking the scrollwheel at a new location to copy and paste seems to jump back to the original location of the text selected and sometimes pasted where you have just click and other times not. This is also confusing for users who might have scrolled a couples of pages worth of text away from their select location but still better than the copy and paste corruption issue. -- copy/paste bug in gedit leads to corrupted files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/234911 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Sorry thought there was not a lot of point writing the same issue again for someone to mark it as a duplicate of another bug. [Bug 535626] [NEW] gedit copy and paste using scroll wheel jumps around screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit Ubuntu 9.10 gedit 2.28.0 Note: This happens when compiz is on or off in normal mode or advanced. How to reproduce: Highlight a bit of text and clicking the scroll wheel at a new location you have scrolled to with the scroll wheel to copy and paste seems to jump back to the original location of the text selected and sometimes pastes where you have just click and other times not. This is also confusing for users who might have scrolled a couples of pages worth of text away from their select location. What I expected: The highlighted text should be pasted at the location I just click after highlighting.
