[Bug 366408] Re: Documentation inconsistent with behaviour required to move a gnome-panel.

2009-05-23 Thread Motin
After upgrade to Jaunty I cannot move the panel in any way except for
making when they are not expanded automatically (which is not an
acceptable workaround). No combinations of mouse clicks, ctrl and/or alt
keys held down has been successful. Since this is prevalent on two
different machines only after Jaunty-upgrade others ought to be affected
by this as well. Is this the same issue or am I better off opening a new
bug item about it?

[Bug 174809] Re: Nautilus using more and more memory (depending on the system up-time)

2009-06-06 Thread Motin
I just moved around a lot of files between external hard drives, around
400 GB all in all. It took all night, and now I have unmounted all
drives and thought I would be able to work as usual, but the system is
slow and unresponsive. Nautilus takes up a whopping 1.6 gb resident, and
2.9gb all in all (so 1.3 gb in swap).

Extract from top:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND

 5247 motin 20 0 2957m 1.6g 4972 S0 47.6 69:54.49 nautilus

 1115 motin 20 0 765m 473m 10m S4 13.4 113:13.34 firefox

I guess nautilus somewhere has cached the file lists of all transferred
files or similar, and hasn't released this memory even though even the
drives are unmounted and disconnected.

Attaching the output of pmap `pidof nautilus`. I have saved a the
contents of the files in /proc/`pidof nautilus`/ as well in case
something else needs to be attached (Please tell me what else is needed)

2009-06-06 Thread Motin
I also have a core dump for nautilus in it's current state. Can't attach
it since it is 2.9 gb... I'll run any necessary report tool on it if
further information is needed.

Nautilus clearly has issues with memory hogging and there should now be
enough debug information available for this bug to be considered
confirmed.

[Bug 222907] Re: tomboy writes to disk every 10 seconds even when idle

2009-04-25 Thread Motin
Is this really fixed? Using pidstat -d 3 I find tomboy still writes to
disk every around 20 seconds:

12.37.09 PID kB_rd/s kB_wr/s kB_ccwr/s Command
12.37.12 5194 0,00 1,33 0,00 tomboy

12.37.51 5194 0,00 1,33 0,00 tomboy

The find command about did not show anything for me, so this may be
another similar bug. How do I know?

[Bug 260918] Re: needed: libv4l and associated application patches (or "gspca stopped working in 2.6.27")

2008-11-08 Thread Motin
I am having trouble following the status of this bug. It says that the
gst-plugins for Intrepid is "Fix released", but for instance Cheese nor
Skype can't use my webcam on XPS M1330 with Intrepid.

All bug reports that are written in the style of "[intrepid] Webcam not
working in Cheese or Skype any longer" are marked as duplicates of this
bug...

Should I maybe switch the gst-plugins back to "Confirmed" - or open up
new bug reports - one for each application + webcam combination?

Please help us who simply realize that our webcams don't work any longer
in Intrepid...

Thanks!

Ekiga works as it is.

Now also Cheese and Skype:
Upgrading libv4l-0 to from 0.5.0-3~intrepid1 to 0.5.3-1~dooz1 (found in
https://launchpad.net/~lool/+archive), then unloading and loading uvcvideo
(sudo modprobe -r uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo), made cheese and skype
work without needed any preloading or other hacks.

After upgrade to v 0.5.6 this broke fully, and I was lucky to have the

[Bug 128914] Re: As I added an application to a drawer in my quicklaunch bar an error occurred. All my quicklaunch and drawers went lost withous any chances to get them back.

2009-10-02 Thread Motin
This just happened to me yesterday. A pain to see all my custom panel
icons disappear in front of my eyes!

I hoped it was a temporary issue so I restarted but no everything still
gone... And with the restart no trace of the .xsession-errors neither.

I was adding the Timer applet to my panel, which used to be there but
wasn't at the time (I think I remember some sort of message about it not
being able to load when I booted many days ago...). The pasta water was
already boiling, so no time for research, just added the Timer applet
again, got that error message, and the Timer applet practically replaced
all my panel shortcuts (the other apps are still there though).

Running Jaunty...

[Bug 368536] Re: Opening djvu files crashes evince

2009-10-03 Thread Motin
"note: the file opens correctly with djview4"
Well, on Jaunty only the first 88 pages are available here as well.

Are you sure this djvu file is complete? Can all pages be opened in a
djvu reader on Windows or similar?

I have no problems opening other djvu files in evince.

If this file is damaged, the bug should be renamed to "Opening
incomplete/damaged djvu files crashes evince", which still would be
valid, as it would be about fixing evince to incorporate the same
behavior as djview, ie not crash but simply displaying the pages that
exists.

[Bug 115415] Re: the user has no information of internet availability

Looks like a good addition to the Ubuntu desktop!

Since version 0.7 most likely will be included in Intrepid

the best way to ensure that this is included in future releases would be
to rebase the patch against the 0.7 trunk and submit it upstreams.

Any volunteers?

[Bug 189509] [NEW] Desktop Appearances Properties crashes repeatedly - gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in XSetCloseDownMode()

2008-02-06 Thread Motin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

This is a fully (for me at least) reproducable crash. Steps to
reproduce:

some seconds

This bug invalidates Bug #187337 which is the same but for which I
wasn't sure what I was doing when the crash happens. Turned out that
nothing needs to be done but wait after having launched gnome-
appearance-properties.

[Bug 189509] Re: Desktop Appearances Properties crashes repeatedly - gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in XSetCloseDownMode()

2008-02-06 Thread Motin
I tried adding debug symbols repos but get this:

$ sudo apt-get update
...

Hit http://ddebs.ubuntu.com gutsy-proposed/universe Packages
Hit http://ddebs.ubuntu.com gutsy-security/main Packages

E: Problem with MergeList
/var/lib/apt/lists/ddebs.ubuntu.com_dists_gutsy_universe_binary-i386_Packages

What sort of backtrace do you want that is different from the apport-
generated ones?

Cheers

[Bug 189509] Re: Desktop Appearances Properties crashes repeatedly - gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in XSetCloseDownMode()

2008-02-09 Thread Motin
gtk-qt-engine is installed, yes.

I use a custom theme using clearlooks and the nuevoxt icon set. Changing
the theme back to Human didn't help. Btw, it's not only in the desktop
background tab the app crashes - also when changing theme etc - seems to
happen around 5-10 seconds after it has started or 5-10 seconds after a
button or tab have been pressed.

[Bug 195296] [NEW] [gutsy] gdm (including gdmsetup) ignores or cannot access gdm.conf-custom

2008-02-24 Thread Motin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Symptoms:
1. After running "sudo gdmsetup" any changed settings are instantly forgotten
on gdmsetup exit. This is the same after restoring gdm.conf with
factory-gdm.conf and rebooting.

2. When having added additional servers in gdm.conf-custom and rebooted, these
are not listed when issuing:
gdmflexiserver -c "GET_SERVER_LIST"

3. Custom theme settings and settings like "Exclude=nobody, media" in gdm
.conf-custom are not active not even after reboot.

Btw, gdmsetup complains about the following when running and changing settings:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo gdmsetup

[Bug 189509] Re: Desktop Appearances Properties crashes repeatedly - gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in XSetCloseDownMode()

2008-03-20 Thread Motin
I experience no problems whn gtk-qt-engine is uninstalled.

I get different gtk error messages:

With gtk-qt-engine installed:
(gnome-appearance-properties:12009): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_map: assertion
`GTK_WIDGET_VISIBLE (widget)' failed

(gnome-appearance-properties:12009): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_map:
assertion `GTK_WIDGET_VISIBLE (widget)' failed

Without:
(gnome-appearance-properties:13339): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme
engine in module_path: "murrine",

(gnome-appearance-properties:13339): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory
32x32/emotexs of theme Aqua-Glade_PNG has no size field

Since there is no real crash happening here (at least gdb doesn't
interpret one when the program hangs), I seem not to be able to supply
any backtrace. While the program is hung I cannot write "backtrace full"
to gdb and a click on the X in the top right corner just produces
"Program exited normally." without leaving any "backtracable" stack to
look into.

[Bug 112073] Restore from sleep/hibernation no longer works - Regression since Feisty Beta - gdm hangs

2007-05-03 Thread Motin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

After working flawlessly in earlier Feisty Betas, the ability to resume
from hibernation stopped working close to Feisty release. It started
working again sometimes but nowadays a resume never works.

I get back into a black screen with a mousepointer displaying the
"Thinking" mouse pointer. Every 15 seconds or so the pointer goes away
and repositions itself in the middle of the screen. Is GDM constantly
restarting? I don't know - because I find no way to troubleshoot it!

I cannot access any other terminal (Ctrl + Alt + F#), and Ctrl + Alt +
Backspace does nothing...

If I press the power button on my laptop it will eventually shutdown
(displaying some garbled lines of graphics in the top of the screen
before going down all the way).

First mentioned in forumthread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=415034

I will attach an output from Alt + SysRq + T (at least the kernel
responds...). Please help me specify what else kind of information is
needed to track this down.
