[Bug 452679] Re: nautilus on drag n drop to network drive kills desktop
I have since positivily confirmed that the issue was dropbox. I uninstalled the application and the problem went away. I had started to roll the package out and found it to not work over a samba drives on the network using nautilus mounted drives. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Confirmed -- nautilus on drag n drop to network drive kills desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452679 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 452679] Re: nautilus on drag n drop to network drive kills desktop
Just to add I will monitor this issue and post updates as to the progress. I have left messages on the dropbox forum indicating the problems with dropbox and ubuntu. Please note that dropbox is a closed source application so Ubuntu is unable to help fix it. This post is a record for those currently looking for a similar problems and may not know what it is. I advise people using dropbox not to use it as of the current time as it leads to instability in nautilus under certain circumstances, in particular moving or copying files to and from samba nas drives. Or in plain language microsoft windows drives. I am very sure of this bug because it affected not one machine but several from different classes of process and machine configurations. ** Summary changed: - nautilus on drag n drop to network drive kills desktop + nautilus copy, move, or drag n drop to nas kills desktop (dropbox issue) -- nautilus copy, move, or drag n drop to nas kills desktop (dropbox issue) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452679 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 395299] Re: gdm 2.26 has no graphical configuration tool
The change in gdmsetup has created a serious bug in 9.10 that was not present in 9.04. Basically when I did an upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 instead of having the ubuntu login I ended up with the xubuntu login screen. Now since the gdmsetup has changed there is no way to correct the problem. I understand the need for making the desktop easy to use, but this dumbing down is stupid. -- gdm 2.26 has no graphical configuration tool https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395299 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 395299] Re: gdm 2.26 has no graphical configuration tool
quote>what issues especially make you think that the new gdm is not suitable to use< I wouldn't be complaining if a tool had been built to configure the login screen that was called something else. However there isn't even a command line solution to this configuration issue. It plain and simple the upgrade did not go as described or planned, resulting in a bug which unfortunately incorrectly displays the incorrect login screen. Until there is a solution this will remain a bug, doesn't matter who made what decision, or who's fault it is. [Bug 352123] [NEW] Nautilus 2.26.0 unable reenter network drives
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When a NAS such as FreeNAS is used and ubuntu mounts a drive via a samba share, Ubuntu mounts and accesses the drive correctly. While activity is occuring the connection seems to be reliable. However if after a period of time the user does not use the connection (say half an hour) Nautilus or via the desktop icon the user is unable to enter the network drive. The only way to fix the problem is to drill down from places>Network>FreeNAS>landrive and then it NAS drive would mount. A second icon is then added to the desktop. If however you drill down with places>Network>Windows Network>WORKGROUP>FreeNAS>landrive the drive will not mount and displays the message. " Could not display "smb://freenas/landrive/" "The file is of an unknown type" I know there is not issue with the FreeNAS drive as it is serving files to my xp windows machines just fine. [Bug 172615] Re: totam won't play mpg files
I think Totem fails to identify that the codec is missing, or the codec is broken. In any case the mpg file fails to play. I have noted that a number of movie files types suffer from this problem. If it is a codec problem may I suggest that totem have a manual button added, called "search codec" for this file. That way the user could search for the codec manually. I also know that if you search the internet nearly all files can be played with the right libaries. To make it easier for the user, maybe those solutions need to be incorperated as well. Also I am aware of commerial codec's that are sold throught the Ubuntu online shop. Those files could also be added as a solution. ** Attachment added: "5 or 6 UFOs at night.mpg" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24594597/5%20or%206%20UFOs%20at%20night.mpg -- totam won't play mpg files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/172615 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I have added VLC from th repository and found that it will play the above mpg correctly. I knew the file was ok because I tested again under windows but I thought I'd better prove the file could be loaded and played in Ubuntu also. I have retested after installing VLC and the latest round of updates and still no update has fixed the mpg playing issue.
