Re: [Bug 126066] Re: evince only displays the first page of a large pdf

2007-08-07 Thread Mark
Seb,

I have tried the stated pdfs again, please mark as not a bug/closed as
evince scrolls down and displays all pages just fine.

Sorry for the noise

Mark Carey

[Bug 23445] Re: iMac G5 will freeze after booting up

2006-08-01 Thread Mark
Please splurge for an internal test unit. There have been more than
enough user bug reports over many months/years. For sale on eBay and
other places.

The iMac G5 needs to be part of the official Ubuntu dev/release cycles,
not an afterthought.

If we want a Linux that takes endless debugging, Googling, and hacking,
well, why use Ubuntu for that? Any other distro will do. The whole
point of Ubuntu was regular packaging and compatibility testing. If the
Ubuntu team is not going to do that for iMac G5's then it should be
removed from the list of supported hardware. That would be sad but at
least more honest.

 Thanks for the replies.

To find out which backend you are using, open Totem, go to Help | About
and it should be listed under the Totem version number.

To install totem-xine, open System | Administration | Synaptic Package
Manager, search for 'totem-xine', mark it for installation by right-
clicking the totem-xine package and then click the Apply button. This
will install totem-xine, which will just be called 'Movie Player' or
'Totem' in the Applications menu. Then try to play a DVD using it!

 Hope this helps
Thanks I'm in the process of getting Totem-xine +2 files

[Bug 148701] Re: Search function in File browser does not function

2008-02-02 Thread Mark
Hi guys,

I originally reported this bug while occasionally flirting with Ubuntu A
QUARTER YEAR AGO. It's VERY disappointing to find out that this bug is
still there. We're not talking here about wrong font in help or bad
indentation somewhere. This is a search function for god's sake! I'm a
fan of Linux in a sense that I like to see it's getting more popular but
how is this sustainable if these blatant mistakes stay there? Very
disappointing :-/ I know this is not a forum but someone, please fix it!

Thanks,
Marek

[Bug 254740] [NEW] 512000 in Decimal, convert to hex is wrong

2008-08-04 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

I was trying to convert 512000 in Decimal into Hex. The result was 7D.
When I converted this back, it was 512. This clearly is not the desired

result if you turn on the bit editor.

I was also in Fix mode if this helps.

Re: [Bug 254740] Re: 512000 in Decimal, convert to hex is wrong

2008-08-08 Thread Mark
For me this is reproducible every time I have tried. It is a bit
annoying. It is like the calculator removes the trailing 0's in hex mode..

Using the scientific calculator mode, I entered 512000 in decimal, then
switched the result to Hex. I got 7D, instead of the correct result
7D000. Interesting, if I enter 512001, then it shows 7D001 as the result.

I can try it on another system to see if I get the same problem there.

Perhaps there is something wrong with my version, and I should try to
reinstall..

[Bug 153248] landscape printed output is trucated to portrait page width

2007-10-16 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

Gutsy RC Installed

Binary package hint: cupsys

When printing a 2 column landscape document from Abiword (via libgnome)
to pdf output or LPT1 (Kyocera FS-1030D) the output orientation is
correct on the paper however the output is truncated at the same width
as a portrait page.

When the print job is open in print preview immediately prior to
pressing the print button the job looks obviously correct.

I have tried installing Kyocera's ppd file for the FS-1030D - no change

I have tried forcing the rotation in system-config-printer - no change

I have tried various combinations of paper orientations in from Abiword
print settings - no change

I have deleted all .gnome etc directories from ~/ and rebuilt my Gnome
Settings - no change

Any suggestions? Is this a bug in libgnome?

[Bug 46846] Re: Emblems get cut when scaled to a zoom = 150% (refresh issue)

2008-12-20 Thread Mark
I am using Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid), and the problem still exists. If you
click and drag over the icons, the emblems are redrawn. Also you can
ctrl-2, ctrl-1 and they are also redrawn. Maybe the actual problem is
in the zoom function. I have settled by using 100% zoom. Another
annoyance is that you cant set a colored background for any of the side
panels except the information side panel.

I can confirm this exists with Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid). Plus the

[Bug 162506] can't open applications / files through nautilus (too many files opened)

2007-11-13 Thread MarK'
Public bug reported:

hi, after a variable time i'm using ubuntu nautilus (at least i think it's
nautilus) becomes unstable and i can no more open my files, or launch
applications from a desktop shortcut (nothing happens);
when i try to open a file with right click - open a popup appears saying
that child communication pipe creation failed (too many files opened)

if i try to launch an application from the menù it works, if i use
console to launch applications everything works, if i log out and log in
again the system comes back to a normal state.

i dont know how to reproduce this bug, and the standard logfiles
(kern.log, syslog auth.log etc etc) report nothing :(

[Bug 385128] Re: *.XPI should be associated with Firefox in KDE

2009-06-10 Thread Mark
But opening them as zip-file is in most cases also not the choice. I do
not know how it is in Gnome, but in KDE there is the possibility to
associate with more then one filetype and sort by priority. I think it
is a reasonable assumption that most extensions are used in Firefox, so
Firefox would be priority one then and then others follow. So please
reconsider your decision.

[Bug 305927] Re: gedit leaks memory

2010-07-29 Thread Mark
Note that the memory usage appears related to the text highlighting.

I loaded a moderately large (~100MB) XML file. Once the initial load
finishes, CPU usage stays high while highlighting is proceeding. Memory
usage skyrockets during this time (in my case, eventually hitting 1.2GB
resident). Closing the file does not free the memory.

[Bug 499690] [NEW] ampersand in user real name freezes login screen

2009-12-22 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Created original user in UNR 9.10 with username administrator and real
name Someone Someone else.

The login screen is expected to show the real name Someone Someone
else. Instead, the login screen confusingly shows the real name as
Others... initially (tooltip is Log in as administrator), then on
mouseout the real name changes to (null). There is still another
option on the login screen that is also labelled Others

I created subsequent users but they failed to even be listed on the
login screen after the incorrectly labelled Others... option.

Installed UNR 9.10 on two netbooks and problem occurred on both.
Suspected the ampersand in real name was the culprit, and removing this
character proved to be a successful workaround for all above login
screen issues.

All updates have been applied to UNR 9.10 installation.

[Bug 503131] [NEW] MPG files from Sony Handycam don´t play

2010-01-04 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

.MPG files from my sony handycam don´t play on movie player in ubuntu
9.10, they worked fine in 8.04. In the file browser the the file icons
take forever to appear, and when they do they just show yellow
filmstrips with no images, then when I try to play the file I just get a
black screen and no sound. The properties tag in movieplayer shows a
duration of 0 seconds.

Strangely a few of the shorter files do show icons and do play, but
first try to find codec GStreamer element dvdspu. That fails, then
they seem to play ok.

Grateful for any help you can provide.

[Bug 508997] [NEW] Laptop suspends immediately after wake when ac power was removed before waking up

2010-01-17 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

This has been reproduced on two Laptops - a Thinkpad T61 and a Dell Mini
1012. The attached debug information (from ubuntu-bug is for the T61),
and is reproduced reliably. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 on both machines -
desktop edition on the Thinkpad and Netbook Remix on the Dell Mini.

Steps to reproduce:

 * Ensure laptop is awake and AC power is connected
 * Close laptop lid - the laptop suspends as expected
 * Remove AC power while the laptop is suspended
 * Open the lid - laptop wakes up
 * Approximately 5-10 seconds later, the laptop suspends once more

I have attached the output from running 'gnome-power-manager --verbose'
manually and performing the above steps on both machines.

 Bug description:
when running karmic beta and vmware server 2.0 and viewing the guest

when screen resolution in the guest is greater the 640 by 480.

this makes mouse control so bad as to be basically unusable to use vmware.

Apparently there is some sort of change in these packages that cause
problems with the plugin. This problem is effected by Kubuntu 9.10 as well
 (after all updates).

Apparently rolling back fixes the mouse focus problem.

[Bug 449366] [NEW] Changing screen resolution destroys object align properities

2009-10-12 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hello,
I am using my notebook with several different screen resolutions ( with an
extern monitor ).
After changing back to the notebook screen often the objects in the gnome
panels ( plugins ) are no more aligned. For example the indicator applet does
not stay completely right. E.g. if I have 4 signs in it and one disappears the
others do no more move to the right. So I got some unused space.

[Bug 882952] Re: package gconf2 3.2.0-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-11-01 Thread Mark
After a reboot I was able to successfully run dpkg --configure -a so
that was my workaround for solving this issue.

[Bug 1037895] [NEW] Resolution changes when using KVM Switch

2012-08-16 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

I have a 4 port KVM switch that I use at work. I frequently switch from
this machine to the others plugged into the switch. Before switching to
another machine my resolution is at 1920x1080. I will switch to another
machine on the switch and come back to it at a smaller resolution. To
get it back to normal I will have to open the Display settings or run
xrandr in terminal and I will have to do this every time I switch
between machines. So for now I have removed the gnome-screensaver
package and I have not expirenced the issue since.

[Bug 1085398] [NEW] users-admin Advanced Settings window is too tall

2012-12-01 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

I'm testing Lubuntu 12.10 in a VirtualBox VM. The Desktop size is
1024x768 pixels.

Run users-admin (System Tools - Users and Groups). The Users Settings
window opens. Click Advanced Settings to open the Changed Advanced User
Settings window. It is too tall to fit on the screen and the Cancel and
OK buttons are off the bottom edge. The window doesn't need to be that
tall (there's just empty space between the content and Cancel/OK
buttons) and it's impossible for the user to reduce its height.

I'd suggest fixing this so the window is fully usable even at 800x600
resolution.

[Bug 1166525] [NEW] There is no way in Rhythmbox to refresh renamed/updated tags of songs. The old tag remains.

2013-04-08 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

After changing the names of the ID3 tags the updates don't show up in
Rhythmbox. There should at least be an easy graphical way to
reload/update the library, or better yet, have it detect changes
automatically. I have to do it manually by deleting
~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml every time I edit a tag of a song.

[Bug 1266542] [NEW] Evince fails to display some PostScript files correctly

2014-01-06 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

I'm using Evince 3.10.0 in a Lubuntu 13.10 x86 VirtualBox VM.

Certain PostScript files fail to render correctly in Evince.

See the attached example document. It has three pages but when loaded into
Evince only the last page is shown, upside-down.
At that point Evince reports:
(evince:2829): EvinceDocument-CRITICAL **: ev_document_get_n_pages: assertion
'EV_IS_DOCUMENT (document)' failed

If I then choose Rotate Left the displayed page disappears. Evince reports:
(evince:2829): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_from_surface: assertion 'width
0 height 0' failed
(evince:2829): Gtk-WARNING **: drawing failure for widget `EvView': invalid
matrix (not invertible)
(evince:2829): Gtk-WARNING **: drawing failure for widget `EvView': invalid
matrix (not invertible)

Clicking Rotate Left again causes the document to be displayed upside-
down again.

If I convert the PostScript file to PDF (by doing ps2pdfwr filename.ps
filename.pdf), the PDF document does display correctly in Evince.
