[Desktop-packages] [Bug 676793] Re: Need to Double-Click ISO Images TWICE Before Brasero Opens to Burn to Disc
Well, if I had something to report in the last 60 days, I would have. I can say that the record is now 9 times before the burn dialogue would pop up, so definitely not getting any better! System updated/upgraded, but still persists in a major way - there is not one single time the dialogue has appeared on a single double-click. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676793 Title: Need to Double-Click ISO Images TWICE Before Brasero Opens to Burn to Disc Status in “brasero” package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Binary package hint: brasero Ubuntu 10.10 using Brasero 2.32.0-0ubuntu2 Before upgrade to 10.10, ISO images only needed to be double-clicked once for Brasero's Burn to Disc to appear. After upgrade to 10.10, double-clicking an ISO image results in the cursor showing busy, and in the taskbar a button appears saying it is Opening..., but after quite a few seconds of this, nothing appears after the taskbar button vanishes. Double-clicking the ISO a second time finally achieves the desired outcome. Additional info: The only other thing I can think of to mention, though I doubt it has anything to do with this, is that after the upgrade Brasero kept (apparently) creating image checksums (though I couldn't find any evidence it was doing more than wasting time). I went into Edit Plugins and disabled both the File Checksums and Image Checksums plugins. I'm not actually sure if the behaviour above was from the start (after the upgrade) or after disabling the plugins (since I only burned an image or two before looking for how to disable the annoying checksum creation). This bug was fixed in the package jockey - 0.9.4-0ubuntu1 --- jockey (0.9.4-0ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low * New upstream bug fix release: - oslib.py: Do not encourage to report package installation failure as SystemError, it will appear as a backend crash - jockey-gtk: Fix message_type argument to Gtk.MessageBox constructor - jockey/ui.py: For invalid combinations of LC_MESSAGES and LC_CTYPE, force stdout/stderr encoding to UTF-8 instead of C. (LP: #760883) - Fix GLib and GObject imports to be compatible with the future pygobject 3.0. (LP: #829186) - jockey/detection.py, _driverid_to_handler(): In the case that there are multiple matching custom handlers for a DriverID, also check that their package attribute matches. - tests/run: Also support specifying individual test method names * Add debian/testpkgs/: Scripts and equivs control files for dummy driver packages which are convenient for testing. * debian/rules: Call debian/testpkgs/clean to ensure that we don't ship build stuff there. * data/handlers/{fglrx,nvidia}.py: Prevent crash if get_alternative_by_name() returns nothing. * jockey/oslib.py, {install,remove}_package(): Capture apt's stdout/err into the log file, to get proper error messages when packages fail to install. (LP: #552300). * jockey/oslib.py, install_package(): Avoid raising a SystemError when a package fails to install in apt, as this will appear as a crash in Jockey. As I am English, I find this offensive since English is English - the UK contains several countries each with their own language. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 812394] Re: Disable hibernate option when it is not supported
Retitling and reopening as per previous comment. However, I still don't understand the rationale for having a machine type whitelist.; see (2) in comment 5. Do we have hard data that hibernation is consistently broken on some particular hardware, and the reason isn't just partitioning? My gut feeling is that we should just disable hibernation by default, period (and perhaps provide an Ui configuration bit to enable it). Maintaining and checking a whitelist will just cause a lot of unnecessary effort which won't actually help a lot. ** Summary changed: - Disable suspend/hibernate options when they are not supported + Disable hibernate option when it is not supported ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: Won't Fix = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/812394 Title: Disable hibernate option when it is not supported Status in Ayatana Design: New Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Id like to proposse a change in the design of Power preferences in the GNOME control center: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Power Instead going throuh the certification path, we can simply disable the options about suspend/hibernate if Its not supported in the current hardware (we have api for this in upower) I think this solution is more scalable, as we do not need to maintain a database with certified hardware. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 463314] Re: gdm ignores timed/auto login on all but first greeter run
@Charlie Kravetz: read the full bug log and try it for yourself. it is still broken in xubuntu 11.04 which makes ubuntu an unusable option for kiosk installations where auto-relogin must happen. in my books that's a rather serious problem. see subject change by Kees Cook (kees) on 2009-12-03 which diverges from the chatter in the original report and first bunch of messages in the report. i.e. gdm ignores timed/auto login on all but first greeter run ... it does! From the home screen, choose a category that has subcategories, e.g. Internet. 2. In the Top Rated area, click More. 3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen. 4. Click Back, then click All 276. What happens: 1. The Top Rated area shows only eight items. 2. The Top Rated screen shows only four more items, which is hardly worth going to an extra screen for. 2. The Top Rated screen has a repeating label, e.g. Internet Internet. 2. The Top Rated screen has a sort menu, which is not useful for the reasons given in bug 830234. 3. The bottom of the screen says 12 items available, which is not correct -- that just happens to be the number we chose to show. 4. The All screen has the label Internet All, which is a bit naff. 4. There's no useful reason you'd choose the Top Rated screen rather than the All screen -- the All screen just shows more stuff. The root cause seems to be that I wasn't clear about how Top Rated in categories should work. The specification doesn't mention a Top Rated screen for categories at all, but my sketch of the category screens shows the Top Rated area having a More link. So, I suggest that: * the Top Rated area on a category screen show 12 items, not eight * we remove the separate Top Rated screen for categories * we remove the corresponding More buttons * the All screen should be sorted by rating by default, as it already is. I'll draw updated category screen sketches that don't include the More button. My experience is that until recently CD/DVD Creator has always worked however last time I used it I ended up with CDs which had the correct directory structure and correct file sizes but unreadable *.jpg. files. The program was unable to eject the CD and when I did - as instructed - I got the message some files may be corrupted. I suspect the problem may have been caused when I recently upgraded via the update manager from 10.04 to 10.10. I don't recall having burned any CDs before this attempt since that upgrade. What is somewhat bizarre is that according to the software centre CD/DVD creator and Brasero are listed separately as if they are different applications and Brasero is down as supported and CD/DVD creator isn't. CD/DVD creator 'more info' does not mention Brasero. When I insert a blank CD it offers to open CD/DVD Creator and if I select open with it does not offer me Brasero yet Brasero is listed in my applications menu and CD/DVD Creator isn't. There's no relationship between the two, so it's not as easy to understand the meaning of the installed emblem as it could be. Perhaps the Installed icon should just be a monochrome version of the installed emblem. Or maybe it should still be a computer, but with a same-shaped checkmark on the screen of that computer. ** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: New ** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/831032 Title: Installed navigation bar icon and installed emblem aren't related Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The Installed navigation bar icon is a monochrome all-in-one computer. Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as desired: distance name=left_width value=3/ distance name=right_width value=3/ distance name=bottom_height value=3/ Binary package hint: metacity - The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens for several releases- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted by this- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in Lucid by changing the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel The window borders in metacity are far too thin to be used for comfortable window resizing, and resize handles are not available in all applications (or even most). In fact, of all the windows I have open right now, not a single one of them has a resize handle. The result is that I get a lot of misses when I try to drag a window border, which usually results in my clicking on the wrong window altogether. The best fix for this usability bug is to create an invisible region around each non-maximized window about 4px thick that can be used for resizing (in addition to the visible border). Or perhaps there should be a border thickness option on the System Preferences Windows dialog (although the default thickness should still be increased considerably). Ideally all windows would also have a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application controlled (at least that seems to be the position of the metacity team). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 831305] [NEW] errors in indentation while numbering in libreoffice writer
Public bug reported: OS: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal stable Application: LibreOffice 3.3.3 OOO330m19 (Build:301) tag libreoffice-3.3.3.1, Ubuntu package 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 Writer (installed via PPA) Firstly, when using numbering of the style (i), (ii), (iii) etc, the indentations are wrong. The third line (and often the fourth and sixth) always has a greater indentation than the other lines. The numbers are aligned vertically, but the text is not. It is approximately one TAB further. This error does not manifest itself with other numbering styles such as 1., 2., 3. or a), b), c) etc. Secondly, when typing a., (a) or a) (without quotes), typing some text and then hitting Enter, the next line does not become b., (b) or b) respectively. Correct numbering can be performed by using another numbering style and then changing it via the Bullets and Numbering toolbar, but it is an inelegant solution. All other common numbering styles work fine, though the options in the Bullets and Numbering toolbar do not include such common styles as a., b., c. and (i), (ii), (iii) etc. ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/831305 Title: errors in indentation while numbering in libreoffice writer Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: OS: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal stable Application: LibreOffice 3.3.3 OOO330m19 (Build:301) tag libreoffice-3.3.3.1, Ubuntu package 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 Writer (installed via PPA) Firstly, when using numbering of the style (i), (ii), (iii) etc, the indentations are wrong.
