[Desktop-packages] [Bug 891539] [NEW] Fullscreen via F11 should work
Public bug reported: at the moment, pressing F11 in most applications in Ubuntu sends the application main window into fullscreen mode. Fullscreen mode is important, especially when one wants to do dedicated work that requires using the screen edges and corners WITHIN an application. When an application main window is maximized, touching the left edge of the screen would still bring up the launcher, which would cover often crucial UI elements of the respective suite, e.g. Libreoffice, Gimp, Inkscape. Pressing F11 to take the application main window into fullscreen mode remedies this problem. Unfortunately, inconsistently with nearly all other apps, LibreOffice binds a different operation to F11, while fullscreen is available via CTRL+SHIFT+J. F11 should consistently activate fullscreen in all fullscreen-capable apps in Ubuntu/Unity. ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/891539 Title: Fullscreen via F11 should work Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: at the moment, pressing F11 in most applications in Ubuntu sends the application main window into fullscreen mode. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 885204] Re: Recommending proprietary driver on hybrid systems can break 3D
@Martin @Chris Well, I can understand bumblebee/ironhide not being supported and I can certainly appreciate your support despite of that. I think are bigger than just the ones concerning Jockey. I will try to have details later. I did try to apt-get install nvidia-current and then change /etc/alternatives/*gl_conf (that were left pointing at mesa) but then in X.log I got (EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found) so perhaps this version of X is also not compatible with nVidia GL... So, I don't know if Jockey does anything else that I should be doing manually to be able to use both GPUs. With Bumblebee/Ironhide both xorgs running have 3d accel. it's only that glxgears points out very different performances for them :) so I like to have nVidia stopped almost all of the time but I really like to optirun my occasionally intensive 3d app and launch it. So, I appreciate if there's more info you can give on this and will try to get to the bottom of this later. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to jockey in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/885204 Title: Recommending proprietary driver on hybrid systems can break 3D Status in “jockey” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “jockey” source package in Oneiric: Fix Committed Status in “jockey” source package in Precise: Fix Released Bug description: Hybrid systems have two video cards, but only one can be used as a time. On some machines, only the active card is visible, but on some both cards are visible to Jockey. In this case, if the system is set up to run on Intel (say) with Unity-3d active and working fine, jockey will notice the NVIDIA card and tell the user that the -nvidia driver is recommended, and required in order to run Unity-3d. The user then installs nvidia as recommended, reboots, and then loses 3d (since they're now using the nvidia GLX library with the intel video driver running.) There's probably several different ways to solve this. One idea would be a blacklist registering specific systems which we know have hybrid cards with this particular issue, and have jockey not suggest the proprietary driver in this case (unless perhaps a --force flag is passed or some such). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 891459] Re: Nautilus crashes on filerename
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/891459 Title: Nautilus crashes on filerename Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: after pressing enter while renaming a file from asdasd.part to asdasd.csv, nautilus crashes with the following assertion: ERROR:nautilus-icon-view.c:1984:icon_rename_ended_cb: assertion failed: (NAUTILUS_IS_FILE (file)) if this is related to a missing icon for csv files, i think, nautilus shouldn´t assert either but just put a standard file icon there ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: nautilus 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.20-generic 3.0.4 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Thu Nov 17 03:16:15 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Alpha amd64 (20110705.1) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/891459/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 779366] Re: Font Nimbus Sans L squashed in Impress slideshow
It seems as if in the presentation modus the condensed letters are used, but with a spacing as big as for the normal font. For whichever reasons. Similar to Michael, the characters are already looking wrong in Edit mode (they are condensed). Possible workaround is to change the font in your documents from Nimbus Sans to Liberation Sans. Depending on your documents, you must change the Default style (Graphics Styles) as well as the various Outline styles (Presentation Styles). After the change my presentations looked exactly as before, in Edit mode as well as in Presentation mode. but I'd prefer using the upstream icon as a fallback; is there any chance of that happening? ** Tags removed: patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/805747 Title: Unnecessary gst-keyboard-xkb appearing in Notification Area when multiple keyboard layouts enabled Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “gnome-shell” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Running GNOME3 and enabling a second keyboard layout has caused a [broken image] gst-keyboard-xkb to appear in my Notification Area. gnome-shell's active layout indicator up next to accessibility and volume is present and working. But a separate thing, calling itself gst-keyboard-xkb with a menu is incorrectly appearing in the Notification Area. The annoying thing in the Notification Area would appear to be related to the libappindicator3-1 dependency but may be a GtkStatusIcon driven fallback. Rebuilding the package to remove the appindicator support patches would likely fix the issue; that's not the right resolution of course but upstream does not consider this their problem since it arrises from an Ubuntu patch. When I kill this task, re-launch nautilus, it sits happily on just a few hundred meg... and then begins to grow again. It also takes a LONG time to start up, and the system is very unresponsive meanwhile... like 20 seconds. This may be a useful clue? I tried to do a valgrind report, but it makes nautilus so slow as to be unusable -- like 2 minutes to open a folder on the desktop... so I couldn't exactly use it normally to get a good log. Nonetheless, here's a log I did capture. I trust that the data captured by ubuntu-bug will have my library versions, cpu type, RAM info, etc. Please let me know what else I can provide. Thanks! Mark Shuttleworth wrote: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/765819/comments/18 Yes, I think that's useful. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 891349] Re: SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) when opening help:ubuntu-help/color-whyimportant
If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: yelp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: yelp (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to yelp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/891349 Title: SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) when opening help:ubuntu-help/color- whyimportant Status in “yelp” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: when clicking at Why is color management important yelp crashes with segfault. same happens when calling via cli: strace yelp help:ubuntu-help/color-whyimportant ... futex(0x7f58a7fbd888, FUTEX_WAKE_PRIVATE, 1) = 1 --- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) --- +++ killed by SIGSEGV +++ Speicherzugriffsfehler ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: yelp 3.2.0-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.20-generic 3.0.4 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Nov 16 21:55:34 2011 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/yelp SourcePackage: yelp UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yelp/+bug/891349/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I do a full-upgrade on this system several times a week, but am not aware of any (or which?) upgrade triggered this sudden failure. The primary symptom is a lack of keyboard function on gdm. Troubleshooting to date has involved: 1. eliminating hardware failure as a cause; 2. rebooting into recovery console to confirm full keyboard function in login console; 3. replacement of gdm by kdm has worked around the problem and restored capacity to use X.org (yes, I know there are other means, such as startx, but other users of this computer are less Linux-literate than I. I want to keep everything simple for them.) A quick Google search suggests that this problem, which periodically afflicts users, stems from an initialization timing problem. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 891642] [NEW] gnome-power-statistics shows bogus Energy when full value
Public bug reported: gnome-power-statistics sometimes gets the wrong value for Energy when full, causing the battery indicator to show nearly empty when it's nowhere near empty. For example: slice 14:29:01 ~$ cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_full 6741 slice 14:31:52 ~$ cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_full_design 6700 slice 14:31:57 ~$ cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_now 2831 Meanwhile, gnome-power-statistics is correctly showing Energy (design) as 67.0Wh, but Energy when full as 633.7Wh, roughly a factor of 10 too high. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 864764] Re: empath forgets accounts 11.10
Hi Muhammad, Yes, the bug is reproducable. Steps to reproduce: - unmount the home-directory structure (umount /home) - change the mount point of the home-directory to (for example) /differenthome - remove the old mount point of the home-directory (rm /home) - create the new mount point (mkdir /differenthome) - create a symlink (ln -s /differenthome /home) - mount the home-directory (mount /differenthome) - logout and login again - start empathy, add accounts - logout and login again - start empathy, the accounts are gone This bug can be solved by adding the real home-directory (/differenthome) to the apparmor config file. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 877456] Re: Who cares about num lock?
WRONG! On Laptop computers NumLock changes letters into digits! It is just as bad, as having CapsLock turned on. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/877456 Title: Who cares about num lock? Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The gnome screensaver is the only application I have ever used, ever, that thinks that num lock being on is something I should be warned about when entering a password. This seems pointless as people generally do not change num lock during computer use, or if they do, it's not to the frequency of using caps lock. Further, numlock being off, which appears to be the preferred state because that removes the warning, is an old-school habit, increasingly unusual. Please remove this warning. It is warning against the normative state, and it doesn't provide useful information. It's just screen clutter. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 891678] [NEW] 11.10 edit network connection awkward
