  Launchpad.net bug detail pages are painted extremely slowly by Firefox
  on my machine. I'm running Ubuntu Lucid 64-bit, and I have the
  proprietary nvidia driver (from the Ubuntu repositories) installed,
  version current. The machine has two 8800 GTX GPU's with 768 MB
  each, so the available graphics power should not be a problem.

  It takes many seconds (sometimes tens of seconds) to draw the page,
  during which the entire computer slows to a crawl. Nothing happens on
  the screen during this time. Whenever I scroll the page up so that
  more of the page is revealed at the top of the screen, this is painted
  extremely slowly as well. Scrolling down (once the page is fully
  painted) does not produce slow-downs, so the problem appears to be
  with the content at the top of the page.

  It appears to be an interaction between Firefox, Launchpad.net and the
  proprietary NVidia driver. I don't notice slowdowns like this on any
  other web page (including other launchpad.net pages). Other browsers,
  such as Chrome, draw Launchpad bug detail pages with lighting speed.
  And when I use the nv or nouveau drivers the problem does not appear
  either.

  Since Chrome can paint the pages at fast speeds, Firefox should be
  able to as well, so I still think this is a Firefox problem.

  If there is any way I can determine exactly what it is that is taking
  so much time and slowing down the entire computer, please let me know!
  Or if there is any other way in which I can help debug this problem.

  After few minutes when not showing that router

  In 12.04 it reconnects no matter if i press cancel connect or connect
  if cancel it trys again few minutes later
  in 10.04 it doesnt reconnect if i pressing cancel but connects if network 
works and i press connect but doesnt connect if network doesnt work i press 
connect after 4th time it tryd connecting after i pressed connect- it stops 
asking to connect and doesnt reconnect on getting signal back.

Once the nfs is stale, you just can't start inkscape anymore (it hangs),
so there's no possible action from the GUI in the preferences.

I solved it by editing the file ~/.config/inkscape/preferences.xml, and
set to 0 the variable maxrecentdocuments. The initial value is 36.

Then inkscape starts correctly.

  I use Ubuntu 11.04 classic. Very often Inkscape freezes at opening, even if 
empty. We have the same problem in Ubuntu 10.04. Since I hadn't noticed it up 
to recently (1 month or so) it's possible that it is due to a modification in 
another package than Inkscape, for instance a library. But Im' not an intensive 
user of Inkscape.
  Steps to reproduce the problem: choose in the general menu Applications → 
Graphics → Inskape Vector Graphics Editor.
  What happens: Inkscape is launched but, often clicking any button has no 
effect, resizing the window doesn't resize the inside. After a while, 
Inkscape's window is greyished and, if I close it, I first get a The window 
'New document 1 - Inkscape' is not responding. message. Relaunching Inkscape 
never solves the issue. Login out and in sometimes solves it, sometimes not.
  What is expected to happen: that Inkscape respond to clicks.

  Just moved one HDD from old machine to another and discovered an issue
  with volume level changing with kmix (Integrated Audio Analog Stereo).
  The thing is that moving the kmix slider makes nothing. The sound is
  working but to change the volume level I must open kmix, switch to
  Playback Streams and change the volume there, in alsamixer. Changing
  the volume level in Playback Devices does nothing: slider moves but
  volume doesn't changes. If I move slider to the lowest position the
  sound is muting but between the lowest an the highest position it
  doesn't changes the volume higher or lower.

  Of course in Select master channel the motherboard integrated audio
  device is chosen. And on old machine, with other audio device on other
  motherboard there was no problem with volume changing.

x220 (was also affected on my x301, Ubuntu 12.04).

Before I forget to ask: can you please update dnsmasq(8) to include
under --strict-order a description of what happens when nameserver
addresses are passed in via D-Bus instead of via a file?

You wrote,

Because NM doesn't use dnsmasq to cache, if NM were to give dnsmasq only
one address then I guess the only service that dnsmasq would still
provide is that of name-to-server mapping.

And it turns out that the way NM currently uses dnsmasq to do this is
seriously flawed. So I conclude that it's better for NM not to use
dnsmasq at all until these problems are solved.

 [That NM only supplies one nameserver address per domain name]
 is a different problem, and could be solved.

From the man page it's not completely clear how to solve it.  Can you
confirm (1) that it's possible to give multiple server options as
follows

server=/google.com/1.2.3.4
server=/google.com/5.6.7.8

and that the result will be that 1.2.3.4 and 5.6.7.8 will be treated
equally for the purpose of resolving names in domain google.com? (2) And
likewise via D-Bus?

(3) What effect does strict-order have on this?

 Ironically, I think the
 problem arises because for nameservers associated with particular
 domains, the equivalent of --strict-order is always in play.

What you say here suggests that my proposition #1 above is false. If #1
is false then it seems that in order to fix

Bug description:
  A number of reports already filed against network-manager seem to
  reflect this problem, but to make things very clear I am opening a new
  report.  Where appropriate I will mark other reports as duplicates of
  this one.

  Consider a pre-Precise system with the following /etc/resolv.conf:

  nameserver 192.168.0.1
  nameserver 8.8.8.8

  The first address is the address of a nameserver on the LAN that can
  resolve both private and public domain names.  The second address is
  the address of a nameserver on the Internet that can resolve only
  public names.

  This setup works fine because the GNU resolver always tries the first-
  listed address first.

  Now the administrator upgrades to Precise and instead of writing the
  above to resolv.conf, NetworkManager writes

  server=192.168.0.1
  server=8.8.8.8

  to /var/run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf and nameserver 127.0.0.1 to
  resolv.conf.  Resolution of private domain names is now broken because
  dnsmasq treats the two upstream nameservers as equals and uses the
  faster one, which could be 8.8.8.8.

  The y-axis of the rulers' co-ordinate system is
  inverted (increasing upwards), and places the origin on
  the bottom left of the viewport. The SVG spec places the
  default origin on the top left of the viewport, and has
  the co-ordinate system increasing to the right and
  downwards.

There is a close analogy between the problem here (bug #1003842) and a problem 
we have with avahi. Avahi resolves names in the domain .local. Networks 
should not use this TLD, but many do and at least in the past Microsoft 
actually recommended doing so. When users connect to such networks with avahi 
enabled the result is malfunction. Upstream purisitically says[*] If you come 
across a network where .local is a unicast DNS domain, please contact the local 
administrator and ask him to move his DNS zone to a different domain. If this 
is not possible, we recommend not to use Avahi in such a network at all. In 
practice avahi attempts to detect bad networks and disables itself if it 
thinks it is on a bad network, subject unfortunately both to false positives 
(bug #327362) and false negatives (bug #80900).

We aren't yet doing even that well. We say that networks ought to have
equivalent nameservers and we make no attempt to detect networks that
have non-equivalent nameservers, of which there are very many.

it seems to be related to compositing. I have installed LXDE and I'm
already working all morning without any problems opening and closing
programs, browsing the web etc. In 'plain' Ubuntu I would already have
had artefacts causing me to restart X. There a lot of problems with
Nvidia and Nouveau run systems apparantly. It seems not to be related to
the drivers though, but a problem with compositing.

It all started for me in 12.04: this was totally unusable for me:
complete freeze every 10 minutes or even less. 12.10 runs into problems
as well. Nouveau shows artefacts, but I can at least restart X by
myself. With Nvidia drivers installed (all versions tried out, including
those of x-edgers and x-swat) my system becomes suddenly less
responsive, fans sound like an aircraft going up in the sky and then X
crashes and restarts.

I truly hope that 13.04 will not have this problems anymore. I will try
a beta as soon as I can.

Artefacts with nouveau driver

Bug description:
On my laptop, Acer Aspire 7520 with a Geforce 8400m G graphics card I
can't get the nvidia driver working correctly: this driver crashes my
system (brings it to a total freeze, not abililty to start another
session or reboot) totally at least 3 times a day.

With Nouveau drivers it seems to work fine, but after some time, I get
artefacts in programs, on the desktop and the unity bar. It gets
unusable very fast.

Restarting X solves the problem, but causes (obviously) a restart of
all running apps.

I have added x-edgers ppa instead of the regular source, but this
brings only a very slight improvement (at least so it seems),

Well, I have includes a screenshot of my messed up desktop.

I have seen that this was a problem in the past as well (found some
bug reports for plain vanilla debian).
