[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1245188] Re: Unable to set the physical keyboard LED to show an alternative layout
Hmm... Seems, not much from upstream, we are on our own. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1169694] Re: evolution crashes with GSlice: assertion failed: sinfo-n_allocated 0
Same experience than in comment #11. After removing the evolution- indicator, the problem is not reproducible at the same rate. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
Single keys hotkeys are not working: Alt (opens HUD), Shift, Ctrl, Win (opens HUD). But IMHO they used very seldom as layout switchers. Ctrl was default layout switcher in linux console (bare TTY) for quite a long time, so there may be significant number of users using Ctrl in X too. But I have no numbers to back my words up. Also, you say that Alt opens HUD. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 49579] Re: screen doesn't lock when some menu is open
@Ctrl-Alt-L is also broken. You need to close menus and other popups first, otherweise the key combination will simply be ignored. Also, on Multimonitor setups sometimes the second screen still shows its content, despite the lock being activated. IMHO the only reliable way of locking your Ubuntu computer is logging out (manually). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49579 Title: screen doesn't lock when some menu is open Status in GNOME Screensaver: Confirmed Status in OEM Priority Project: Won't Fix Status in OEM Priority Project precise series: Won't Fix Status in X.Org X server: Confirmed Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “gnome-screensaver” source package in Precise: Confirmed Status in “xorg-server” package in Debian: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver I'm running a fresh install of Dapper with screensaver set to 'blank screen', and 'lock screen when screensaver is active' enabled. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1248069] [NEW] layout of cd album details area in rhythmbox doesn't fit on 1024x600 display
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 on an Acer Aspire One netbook which has a 1024x600 screen, some of which is lost to the unity launch bar on the left hand side. When I insert a CD, the rhythmbox panel showing the title, artist, etc. is cut off on the right hand side and Disc number is not visible. Also the Time column in the tracks list below it is only wide enough to show the first digit. The only way I can see them is to hide the Side Pane (f9). I don't remember this being the case in the version in Ubuntu 12.04. Not so sure about 13.04, as I didn't use CDs with rhythmbox much in that version due to the broken musicbrainz lookups... ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: saucy -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1248069 Title: layout of cd album details area in rhythmbox doesn't fit on 1024x600 display Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 on an Acer Aspire One netbook which has a 1024x600 screen, some of which is lost to the unity launch bar on the left hand side. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1247948] Re: setting items should have a fix order
Right, I can understand that. For what it's worth, the ubuntu-system- settings panels are ranked in a fix order ... those are targetting Ubuntu Touch at the moment but likely to come to the desktop in some cycles -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247948 Title: setting items should have a fix order Status in Ayatana Design: New Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The current system settings icon order is alphabetical. Problem 1: Not the most important items are displayed at first in every row. For example in the 'Hardware' category (English version), 'Bluetooth' is the first item, but it should be IMHO 'Diesplays'. Problem 2: Sorting the icons alphabetical results in having the icons on different places depending on the language the system currently uses - pretty bad when supporting other people through the phone... It would be much better to give the icons a fixed position. This would improve the system settings user experience, because the important buttons would be faster accessible. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1235472] Re: New messages do not show
Alike issue here, here is the test-case: I receive a message from a person not in my contact list via XMPP for the first time (no history exists). telepathy-indicator shows new message. I click a line in the indicator. New chat tab is opened in the empathy-chat with the contact. BUG: No messages are shown in the tab at all — new messages should be shown BUG: window title shows (-1 unread) — that's nonsense :) BUG: unread-messages icon does not disappear even in focus is in the tab — that may be another simptom of the bug. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1224098] Re: xserver wont start after nvidia-prime installation
@Alberto: I did not understand your last suggestion. I had not installed the xubuntu-default-settings, so when I tried to remove that, I got an error message. I had previously tried removing the XFCE4 and XFCE4-goodies metapackages, then reinstalling them, but that didn't help. I ended up reloading my original Lubuntu-13.10 Saucy installation from backup, then installed, in this order nvidia-319 nvidia-settings-319 rebooted nvidia-prime from the Saucy proposed repository via Synaptic (updated grub) rebooted xfce4 xfce4-goodies* rebooted logged into xfce session chose Use default configuration It worked. No error messages loading the xfce desktop. Now I can use either lubuntu sessions or xfce4 sessions, and nvidia-prime seems to be working (at least going by glxspheres64). I'm not sure why it worked this time - I was 100% sure it would fail. But it worked. (*I had tried the sudo update-alternatives --config lightdm-gtk-greeter- config-derivatives, but I didn't understand what you meant by that command exactly. I got an error message saying no alternatives available.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-prime in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1224098 Title: xserver wont start after nvidia-prime installation Status in “nvidia-prime” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “nvidia-prime” source package in Precise: Fix Committed Status in “nvidia-prime” source package in Saucy: Fix Committed Bug description: SRU request: [Impact] * As a result of this bug, the lightdm configuration file will always been overwritten. This is not desirabled or expected and causes serious problems on any *buntu system other than Ubuntu. [Test Case] * Enable the precise-proposed or the saucy-proposed repository and install nvidia-prime (0.4.2~hybrid0.0.1 in precise or 0.4.2~hybrid0.1 in saucy). * If the package doesn't overwrite the lightdm greeter in the lightdm.conf file, then the fix is correct. [Regression Potential] * The regression potential here should be zero, as we only replace two conditions ( test -f and test ! -s) that can never be true at the same time, with the test -s condition which does exactly what we need - it checks that the file exists and has a size greater than zero - and reuse the existing file if this condition is satisfied. I have done a fresh install of saucy, before the installation of nvidia-prime lightdm-gtk-greeter was set in lightdm.conf. During the installation of nvidia-prime the greeter ist changed to unity-greeter which causes a crash and no display after a reboot. If I do so, there aren't any new entries in the calendar and unfortunately no error message appears. The logs of the select Apache server says error 200 - ok, the size of the file is correct, too. So, the document is delivered correctly. By the way, importing through a local calendar works fine with the same file. It would be much better if Evolution would show more information why the import fails. Debugging my iCal-file would be much easier. At the moment, I have absolutely no clue what the problem could be. I import a webcal like this (I think this is the usual way): 1. Change to calendar, 2. Right click 3. Select New Calendar 4. Select In the Web, enter a name and a webcal:// adress 5. Press OK. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 113399] Re: Evolution doesn't decrypt GPG crypted answers sent since Thunderbird/Enigmail
change status to Fix released (see gnome-bugs) ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113399 Title: Evolution doesn't decrypt GPG crypted answers sent since Thunderbird/Enigmail Status in The Evolution Mail Calendaring Tool: Fix Released Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: evolution Problem: Evolution an GPG seems to be working correctly on my desktop. I can send and receive crypted or signed mail (GPG functionnality). However, if somebody answers to my initial crypted mail with a crypted answer (verified since Thunderbird only), Evolution doesn't try to decrypt the mail at all. The crypted content is displayed as is. I must precise that this happens only with answers: if the same person sends me a crypted email with Thunderbird/Enigmail/GPG, Evolution decrypts it properly. For the moment, it is possible to copy the mail and paste it in a text file to get it decrypted in the command line, but it's not the way I except Evolution to manage crypted mails in the future. Steps to reproduce: 1. Send a GPG crypted mail to anyone using Thunderbird/Enigmail/GPG. 2. Ask him to answer your mail and to crypt and sign the answer. 3. Receive the mail: although you do have the correct GPG key, and although any crypted mail is correctly read, crypted answers are not. Actual results: Evolution displays the crypted mail as is (unreadable). Expected results: Evolution should decrypt an crypted answer, as it does for any initial crypted mail. Does this happen every time? Yes: it's systematic. The thing is that sometimes (not reproducible) evolution fails to download some of the emails from gmail. The account is properly configured and there is no pattern for the failed emails, like sender, subject or anything. The messages still appear on gmail, but Evolution won't download them anymore. I've been some days wondering why Evolution wouldn't download some of the emails, and today I just gazed the message failed to download message 2 of 8 in the download status window. Evolution had downloaded the first of all unread emails and then stopped, being unable to catch up or something and redownload them later. Maybe gmail thinks that the client has downloaded all messages properly and marks them as downloaded? I don't know, but the failed to download message X of Y also confuses me. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 162544] Re: Custom calendar alarm causes computer to beep rather than to play the specified sound; evolution-alarm-notify treats sound URI as simple filename
change status to Invalid (see gnome-bugs) ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162544 Title: Custom calendar alarm causes computer to beep rather than to play the specified sound; evolution-alarm-notify treats sound URI as simple filename Status in The Evolution Mail Calendaring Tool: New Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: When a custom audio alarm is set by the evolution calendar function, it is stored in the calendar.ics file in a VALARM entry as an ATTACH line. The entry is entered as a file:// url. RFC 2445 defines the contents of an .ics calendar file and specifies that ATTACH lines must contain URI's or other particular entries, so this entry is correct. A simple filename would not conform to the standard. The evolution-alarm-notify daemon treats this entry as a simple filename, and since file:///filepath/filename is not a filename it never exists. Since the filename doesn't exist alarm-notify uses the gnome beep function to create an audio alert rather than the sound. Suggested resolution, at a minimum, evolution-alarm-notify could check for the existence of file:// at the beginning of the entry and, if present, strip it before the filename check and subsequent passing of it as an argument to the gnome_sound_play function, which also takes a filename rather than an URI. This processing is done in evolution-2.12.0/calendar/gui/alarm-notify/alarm-queue.c function audio-notification. To confirm, set a custom audio alarm. Kill the alarm-notify process. Manually edit the ATTACH line to contain the simple filename. Restart the alarm-notify process. The custom alarm sound should play at the appropriate time. Circumvention Use the run a program alarm option to run a program such as aplay with the sound filename as an argument. You will have to authorize the aplay program the first time it runs, but can then check the box to allow it run subsequently without interruption. The gui doesn't seem to remember the sound selected the next time the alarm sound dialog box is opened. One might speculate that initialization of this dialog box might expect a filename rather than a gui in the calendar.ics file, but I haven't checked this wild guess. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 49579] Re: screen doesn't lock when some menu is open
That entirely depends on how much your prioritize security over usefulness. I would not want that to happen, because I don't have secure things, by and large. I can completely understand other people disagreeing. Ubuntu isn't about prioritizing security over all else, I feel. A shutdown is excessive to avoid people seeing the screen for a few seconds. Public bug reported: I attempted to use Gnome-Control-Center to install a USB-attached Canon MP280 printer and it failed. I then proceeded to install the .deb packages using gdebi which were hidden inside the tar.gz package from http://support- nz.canon.co.nz/contents/NZ/EN/0100301402.html [incidentally the ./install.sh logic inside the tar.gz aiming to automate this process fails now that both rpm and deb are installed on Ubuntu - violating it's implicit assumptions]. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1245915] Re: Can't change auto login status to no in Ubuntu or Ubuntu GNOME Saucy after yes is selected
I decided to play with this a bit tonight and I was having trouble reproducing this behavior in my stable updated Ubuntu Saucy, so I did a fresh install of Ubuntu Saucy i386 selecting to auto-login during installation. Then I ran all updates and rebooted when prompted. Upon reboot auto-login worked as it should but when I went to System Settings User Accounts I see it's set to off. Please look at the screenshot.
