Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
This imgur album has screenshots that show exactly what I'm trying to
  describe. http://imgur.com/a/h1CvF

When the window is maximized LO Calc, Writer, Math work fine.
http://imgur.com/a/h1CvF#0
When i grab the title bar and drag it moving the whole window it works ok.
http://imgur.com/a/h1CvF#1
But when i grab the window's edge to manually change it's size (make it
smaller) this happens: http://imgur.com/a/h1CvF#2
When I grab the window's edge and drag to make it bigger i get this:
http://imgur.com/a/h1CvF#3

The visible stuff is functional. By that I mean I can still type in
text (Writer) or put in data into cells (Calc) open menus like View,
Tools, Edit - but only if I can see them, of course.

After maximizing the window everything is back to normal - no data
lost, nothing crashes, all back to normal.

As I mentioned above it affected LO Math, Calc and Writer which I use.
I don't know about other LO programs.

Gallery thumbnails of small objects are blurry/invisible

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:

  Package: libreoffice-draw 1:4.2.7-0ubuntu2
OS: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, release 14.04

Expected: high quality gallery thumbnails, of objects of any size that
I've drawn using the standard drawing tools.

Actual: gallery thumbnails of small (0.1 or thereabouts) objects that
I've added to the gallery, appear blurry or do not appear at all. They
can still be dragged into drawings though, but it requires guesswork!

Thanks for any solutions you can provide.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-01-25 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hi Calvo,

From the compose.txt file you mention, it looks like you are on the
right track. Can you please test it by installing the ibus-table-compose
package from the Ubuntu archive. By doing so, the file /usr/share/ibus-
table/tables/compose.db will be installed, and I think that's the binary
version of compose.txt.

Title:
cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

Status in gtk+2.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

When typing in a US-international keyboard with dead-keys (or
UK-international),
typing 'c results in an accented c instead of a cedilla.

There is a workaround, which is editing the

  /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules

  file and changing the line

  cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale
  az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa

  to

  cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale
  az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en

(add the 'en' at the end).

However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the
change,
and we get back to the accented c. That means having to modify the file again,
  logout and login.

For me this is no problem. But for my brother, mom, dad, etc, it is always
something
that at least makes me less proud of having convinced them to use Ubuntu,
because
they don't know what to do each time this happens.

I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and that
would
be very easy), the inclusion of alternate layouts on install that for the
dead-key
options (as US-deadkey and UK-deakey), alternate layouts as
US-deadkey-cedilla.

This change is relevant for at least Portuguese and French.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-01-25 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Well, considering that '+c seems to be converted to ć via compose.txt,
it would probably not help, but to test it I suppose we would need to
rebuild ibus-table-others with a modified compose.txt.

Option to display file in browser, treat as text/plain

Status in The Mozilla Firefox Browser:

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  A suggestion:

When you click certain files, like .py or .pl files, for example, Firefox
brings

  1. Open with a certain application
  2. Save to disk
What would be nice is a third option:
  3. Treat as text/plain

The wording could be altered... Display as text in browser or
  something.

Sometimes you just want to quickly visit a file on the web and look for
something in it, and the fact that you *could* open it in a more customized
application is true but not really easier for you at that moment. If you just
want to look a Python script for a version number at the top it is not
necessary
to open it in your IDE or save it to disk; you just want to open it in the
normal viewing window as plain text and quickly find what you need to look at.

This bug is *NOT* fixed. I'm too unexperienced with launchpad, how can
we get a fix denied here?

reposting because still bugged.

Bug description:
Every time I reboot I get the sound volume back to 100%, but the sound
works fine apart from this. It's just *very* annoying to have to reset
the volume every time I boot the PC. I set the volume from the volume
icon in the system tray. I have two sound cards installed on my system
(one on the motherboard and a SB Audigy), but I'm using only the
Audigy. Another thing is that the mixer applet often incorrectly shows
volume as muted when it's not.

I'm using the hardy beta (hardy-desktop-amd64) from march 19th 2008.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1414460] [NEW] The sound output device doesn't switch back to Speakers after HDMI disconnect

2015-01-25 Thread Leon
Public bug reported:

When I connect an HDMI cable to my laptop, I go to the Sound condifuration to
switch the output to HDMI.
When I disconnect the HDMI cable, I have to go back to the sound configuration
and select Speakers, even though it's THE ONLY AVAILABLE DEVICE.

Upon HDMI disconnect I exepect it to automatically switch (back) the the
available output device if there's only one, or to the last one used, if
there are several.

Title:
Rhythmbox displays the wrong album art

Status in The Rhythmbox Music Management Application:
  Unknown
Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Rhythmbox displays album art itself at the top of the window, among
the controls. It also sends album art to notify-osd for display in
notification bubbles, and in indicator-sound. Rhythmbox is using the
wrong album art much of the time. In the instant case, the mp3 files
have no embedded album art, so I would expect either the correct album
art is downloaded, or none is displayed (default image or blank).
Instead, album art is apparently picked randomly from my music
  collection.

I use (26 channels, 24bit only). I tried to alter the default.pa file
since there are some soundcard specific workarounds available* but I had
no success. This is pretty frustrating because pulseaudio is the
standard soundsystem of most distros nowadays and the only real
workaround is to remove it and use plain alsa.

I use Debian testing (Jessie/Sid) with pulseaudio 5.0.

Hi,

I only use pulseaudio 5.0 from Debian testing. If the multichannel
profile has been added to the 5.0 release then I have it, otherwise I
need some help on how to use it. I've attached what you asked for.

I should probably add that pulseaudio itself runs fine, but doesn't give
me any audio output at all, I've checked this via hdspmixer.

Yes, the multichannel fix is newer than 5.0.

If you feel adventurous enough to install pulseaudio from source, here
are steps for installing the current git version:

git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio
cd pulseaudio
./bootstrap.sh
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig

The bootstrap.sh script will probably give you all kinds of errors, if
you don't have the development tools and the headers of various
dependecy libraries already installed. I think debian has some tool for
installing the build

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1414440] [NEW] [SATELLITE L750, Conexant CX20585, Speaker, Internal] speaker fails after a while; headphone jack still working

Public bug reported:

Sound works fine after restart, but then suddenly the speakers go

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 192735] Re: mpd no access to soundcard using pulseaudio

2015-01-25 Thread Florian Schlichting
as pulseaudio is run as the logged-in user, the fix is to also run mpd
as the logged-in user, which is what will happen automatically if you
disable mpd as a system service and provide your own ~/.mpdconf - see
README.Debian for details

** Changed in: mpd (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed = Fix Released

Title:
mpd no access to soundcard using pulseaudio

Status in mpd package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

  Version info:

  uname -r: 2.6.24-8-generic
  pulseaudio Version: 0.9.9-1ubuntu2
  mpd : Version: 0.13.1-3ubuntu1

After changing from esound to pulseaudio, MPD is not able to access
  the sound card.

MPD logs the following errors in /var/log/mpd/errors.log:

  No protocol specified
  E: client-conf-x11.c: XOpenDisplay() failed
*** PULSEAUDIO: Unable to connect: Access denied

By giving xhost + and restarting mpd the XOpenDisplay() error
disappears, but the error regarding PULSEAUDIO still persists.

This happend using the latest ubuntu gutsy as of 16.02.2008, as well
  as the current Hardy.

Pulseaudio was installed using https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio on
gutsy, and the system was upgraded to hardy using update-manager.

I have added mpd and root to all pulseaudio groups (pulse, pulse-
access, pulse-rt), but this did not solve the problem.

Xine works using native pulse output and mythtv works using
  ALSA:default output device.

  Regards,

  Rune

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1414468] [NEW] Unity GUI does not properly remember the state of PPTP/VPN connection when it goes down

2015-01-25 Thread Pawan Singh
Public bug reported:

1. Start a PPTP connection using the GUI (first create a new connection and
enter all the information)
2. Once the connection is UP everything is good.
3. Connection times out after some time (because our PPTP server forcibly times
out connections)
4. Unity GUI still thinks that PPTP connection is up and won't let you start
another one or let you disconnect the current one.
5. You can log out and log in - but the problem will still persist.
6. You have to reboot the machine to make the GUI start the connection again.

I think this is critical usability bug.

While you guys are at it fixing this one, the PPTP configuration dialog
has an export button. That button also does not work. The export
operation gets an error after you select a file to save the PPTP
configuration into.

Ubuntu version 14.10 with latest updates as of 25th Jan, 2015.

  Binary package hint: compiz

I'm using latest compiz on intrepid.

Since jockey-gtk does not work on my box (I already filed a bug), I
manually installed nvidia-glx-177 and added the driver → nvidia line
  to xorg.conf.

Now I seem to be having some screen refresh problems when using
compiz: parts of the screen are refreshed, but others aren't. That
means nautilus doesn't show files or folders until I move the cursor
over them, firefox doesn't show webpages properly until I scroll down,
  and so on.

Please, tell me if there is any additional info I can provide to find
  out the cause.

The problem is that this filter does not show .NRG images , so I have to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 490434] Re: keyboard input less responsive after screensaver fails to activate because of VirtualBox

2015-01-25 Thread Leyli Cecil
I'm currently seeing this under Ubuntu 14.10.

In my case, however, the issue is somewhat worse than that originally
reported. Regardless of whether the guest image is idle or not, the
keyboard in such guest becomes unreliably unresponsive exactly X minutes
after (re)entering such guest, where:

* Unreliably unresponsive means a seemingly random loss of roughly half of
all keyboard input (as in the original report).
* X is the currently configured inactivity time in the Ubuntu host
(defaulting to 10 minutes), after which the host screen is blanked or a host
screensaver run.

Interestingly, this is correctable in the same manner as that originally
reported. To reiterate, when a guest keyboard becomes unresponsive:

1. Return to the Ubuntu host from the guest VirtualBox image (e.g., by hitting
Right-Ctrl).
2. At such point, Ubuntu immediately performs inactivity handling (e.g., screen
blanking, screensaver running).
3. Stop such blanking or screensaver (e.g., by hitting any key).
4. Return to the guest VirtualBox image from the Ubuntu host (e.g., by clicking
in the VirtualBox window for such guest).

This is may not necessarily be a gnome-screensaver issue. I'm currently
running Cinnamon 2.2 as provided by the canonical (horrible pun
intended) 14.10 Ubuntu repositories. While I do have both cinnamon-
screensaver and gnome-screensaver installed, the prior appears to
currently take precedence.

Intuitively, this feels like a lower-level upstream issue. My
suspicions are that VisualBox is failing to notify the host X11 of the
activity state of guest images *AND* that VisualBox is failing to
preempt guest images on guest inactivity with the host X11 inactivity
handler (e.g., screen blanking, screensaver running).

It may be pertinent to note that the guest in question is OS X 10.6.8
(Snow Leopard). Due to licensing concerns, Oracle has yet to offer a
Guest Additions ISO for OS X VirtualBox guests, thus preventing use of
Seamless Mode under such guests. Seamless Mode displays application
windows running under guests as native windows running under the host,
and is available for all non-OS X guests. Since virtualization of OS X
is non-trivial (to say the least), most VirtualBox users are likely to
run guests under the blatantly superior Seamless Mode.

Does any this matter? Possibly not. My deepest suspicion, however, is
that VirtualBox only fails to notify the host X11 of the activity state
of guest images *NOT* in Seamless Mode – which would, of course, always
be the case for OS X guests and only rarely the case for non-OS X
guests. This could explain the lack of concurring reports for this bug.
(Or this could explain nothing at all.)

  Expected to happen:
I work away inside a VirtualBox image, leave my machine for 10 mins come back
and type away as normal.

  What happened instead:
I come back to the VirtualBox image and the keyboard becomes unresponsive. I
escape out the VirtualBox machine, wait 5 seconds and the screen saver starts.

  Application causing the bug: VirtualBox
  Application affected: gnome-screensaver
Gnome-screensaver setting: after 10 mins of idle keyboard and mouse the
screen saver will activate

  Reproducing the problem:
  1) Using the mouse click inside a VirtualBox machine.
  2) Leave Ubuntu to idle for over 10 mins.
  3) After 10 mins observe that the screensaver has not started.
  4) Start typing text into any application within VirtualBox
  5) Observe that keyboard input is unresponsive (50% of text typed is accepted
.e.g. into gedit)
  6) Press Right CTRL to escape out of the VirtualBox and wait 5 seconds.
  7) Observe the screensaver starts instantly.
  8) Move the mouse or tap a key on the keyboard to cancel the screensaver.
  9) Observe the keyboard input responsiveness within VirtualBox has returned
to normal.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1414540] [NEW] compiz does not swallow mousewheel hotkeys properly when dealing with smooth scrolling

2015-01-25 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

When dealing with high-resolution smooth scrolling devices, e.g. some Logitech
mice after being configured with Solaar, and scrolling on touchpads, Compiz's
scroll-based hotkeys are not properly isolated from Gtk+3 applications.

For example, in Gtk3 nautilus, try using Super+Scroll or Alt+Scroll to zoom
in/out or change the window opacity, while the cursor rests above a scrollable
area. Notice that doing that with a normal mouse properly swallows the scroll
events so that they don't hit the Nautilus window, but compiz does not do the
same for smooth-scrolling devices.

Bug description:
I have an Acer Extensa 5620, with GMA x3100 video chipset. When using
Chrome or Chromium to play videos on Youtube the screen goes
completely black and I could not revive it. The audio is played during
this. I have been using Xubuntu and Chrome for about a year, and have
only been experiencing this for a few months. As I recall this came in
around the upgrade that brought in the little icon in the status bar,
that shows Chrome running in the background even when the windows are
closed. I tried reinstalling the newest LTS Xubuntu (14.04), still no
good. With Firefox it works just fine. I guess it could be something
about hardware acceleration, but it is a shot in the dark.

So summarized: I tried to play Youtube videos on Chrome and Chromium.

I was expecting it to playback as it had for years before.

It did not, the screen went all black, audio started playing, and I
could not bring the screen back to showing anything. This has happened
a dozen times, and always happens when trying again.

  Thanks!

  1. editing /etc/pm/config.d to add
   SUSPEND_MODULES=iwlwifi
  2. editing /etc/modprobe/d/wilwifi.conf to add:
  options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0
  options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1
  3. running: sudo rmmod iwlwifi sudo modprobe iwlwifi
  4. stopping, starting, or restarting Network Manager

Nothing seems to work. When I had 13.10, my wifi worked without a
problem, but once I erased it and installed 14.04, wifi will not
connect after suspend. Ethernet works fine. The only way I've found
to resolve this is to restart my computer. I have a Lenovo T420. If
I try to connect after suspend, it shows the Wifi Networks, tries to
connect, and says Disconnected... every time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1100190]

2015-01-25 Thread psnizek
I can confirm this bug too on Ubuntu 14.04 and LibreOffice 4.2.7.2

Using owncloud webdav.

Error description:
receiving general input/output error when trying to load a document from a
Nautilus davs folder.

Workaround:
Open the document in LibreOffice using File/Open.

However it is not very user friendly for network users.

Title:
[Upstream] I/O Error while opening file from WebDAV over GVFS from
  Nautilus

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Problem description:
Error when opening a file from Nautilus with LibreOffice when the file is
WebDAV mounted with GVFS.

The Same file can be opened from the same location from within
LibreOffice, with the Open File Dialogue. Then you get asked for the
Username and Password and Libreoffice seems to access the file
  directly over HTTP.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Mount a DAV Folder with Nautilus.
  URL in my Case:
dav://admin@10.1.10.58:8080/alfresco/webdav/Sites/puzzletest/documentLibrary/Alfresco%20WebDAV%20Test/
  2. Open a file with LibreOffice by doubleclick or context menu from Nautilus.
  4. Error occurs.
  Exact message:
  (-) «General input/output error while accessing /home/pgassmann/.gvfs/WebDAV\
als\ admin\ auf\ 10.1.10.58%3A8080/Sites/puzzletest/documentLibrary/Alfresco\
WebDAV\ Test/Neu.odt.» [OK]

  Working Variant:
  1. = 1. above
  2. Start LibreOffice
  3. Open File dialogue from LibreOffice
  4. Select the same file and click Open.
  5. LibreOffice Dialogue: Authentication Required, Enter user name and
password for: Alfresco DAV Server on 10.1.10.58
  6. Enter Username and password, click OK
  7. File opens correctly

  LibreOffice Version:
  3.5.2-2ubuntu1

  Involved Software:
  LibreOffice, Nautilus, GVFS, Alfresco

  Current behavior:
Opening file from Nautilus causes Error,
Opening from LibreOffice Open File dialogue asks for credentials and works
correctly

  Expected behavior:
  Opening from Nautilus works.
Opening from Open File dialog works without asking for credentials.

Attachment: strace log from following actions:
  LANG=C libreoffice --strace
successfully Open File from LibreOffice dialogue.
Trying to open file from Nautilus.

*Sometimes* when going out of Wifi range, data doesn't switch to 3G/4G. I

Xorg crash - fullscreen YouTube video

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I was listening to this YouTube video:
  http://www.infinitelooper.com/?v=-tJYN-eG1zkp=n

When I decided to make it full screen, but it didn't want to go, so I
very quickly double-clicked on it twice, and then the entire screen
went black. And no matter what I did, it go away. Although I could
still hear the music from the video. As I couldn't do anything really
about it I had to hold down my power button and force it to shutdown.
And when it started up the screen was fine. It is a laptop so I don't
think that the monitor just turned off or something.

Bug description:
Several times over the last week I have noticed that the when I start
firefox, the default icon is replaced by a grey square with a question mark in
the center as shown in the attached image.
The only fix I've found is to unlock firefox from the launcher, quit the
program, search for firefox in the dash, manually drag the icon onto the
launcher, and then open it(i.e. if I start firefox directly from the dash, the
grey icon appears on the launcher again).
I haven't noticed this occurring with any other program.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1298021] Re: Google Chrome (not chromium) won't start in guest session

This bug still seems to exist (25/1/2015).

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this: just installed
Edubuntu 14.04 (on 25/1/2015), let it install the updates.

Now I am trying to use Google Chrome (yuck; version 40.02214.91) in
Guest mode. The error Failed to move to new namespace: PID namespaces
supported, Network namespace supported, but failed: errno = Operation
not permitted pops up. Running /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome Cx -
chromium displays the same error.

Appending the flag --no-sandbox works but that pops up a warning in
Chrome which I'd like to suppress (there's no point to the warning since
Chrome, with that flag, will be running in the Guest login which gets
wiped after each logout).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1305857] Re: wireless authentication always times out after standby

2015-01-25 Thread Dennis-martin-herbers
I tracked down the issue where WiFi would fail after suspend in that it
doesn't associate anymore (tries to connect but fails), and it's a bug
in wpa-supplicant that was fixed in the current version (Ubuntu uses
2.1, newest is 2.3). Replacing Ubuntu's wpa-supplicant 2.1 with Debian's
wpa-supplicant 2.3 and rebooting immediately fixed the issue.

wireless authentication always times out after standby

Status in wpasupplicant package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After updating from saucy to trusty, putting the system to standby
makes wireless stop working after wake up. Rebooting the system fixes
it until next time standby is entered.

I've tried various hints about unloading modules, restarting the
network-manager service or nm-applet, nmcli nm sleep false
or using rfkill / the hardware kill switch. None of these changed the
behaviour or seemed wrong. After following
https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/NetworkManager/Debugging, I was able to get the
attached lines in /var/log/syslog.
The driver works fine after wake up and scanning for networks works too. Upon
trying authentication, the request fails after 5 seconds with a timeout. I
managed to make the connection working again by killing wpa_supplicant so it
must somehow be stuck.

Google changed their expected date format to fix a bug which libgdata
was working around. We don't need the workaround any more.

  [ Fix ]

This is fixed in 0.16.1. I think we should take this update, as it
includes other bugfixes too. I think it falls under the GNOME MRE. If
not, we can cherry-pick this one fix.

  This is in vivid already.

  fixes it for you.
