[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1420430] [NEW] Disconnect menu item in network-manager taskbar tool is inactive when connected to network
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When connected to a network (via ethernet), I am not able to disconnect using the network menu in the top taskbar. The Disconnect menu item is not highlighted. The Connection Name is highlighted, but I don't need to click it because I'm already connected to it. If I click the Connection Name, it connects again, but still does not highlight the Disconnect option. So to disconnect, I have to go to System Settings - Network, and click on the toggle. That does work. It's just the taskbar connection manager that is malfunctioning. I have tried restarting, and the problem persists. This happened after I updated software this morning using Update Manager. I installed the updated Unity Greeter that puts network status on the login screen and updates wifi and mobile. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1420889] [NEW] Desktop fails to load after login (displays tiled backgrounds)
Public bug reported: Was originally running 14.04-desktop in a VmWare Fusion v5-Pro guest. Ran fine for quite a while. A certain update a few months ago introduced an issue where I could no longer log in graphically. The guest console would present a normal login after boot, but attempting to log in causes the screen to display a tiled background and a failure to present any UI components. Ssh access remains accessible, so it seems to be purely a graphical desktop problem. Anyway, I have since tried many things, including ensuring I had the latest updates, reinstalling unity, upgrading to 14.10, and upgrading Fusion to v7-Pro. The result is exactly the same. I will attach a screenshot. To be fair, I do not know for sure this is a unity bug. But it is my best guess. ** Changed in: unity Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dp-unity https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1375271 Title: desktop or other past screen contents visible before lockscreen on resume Status in GNOME Screensaver: Invalid Status in Unity: Fix Released Status in Unity 7.2 series: In Progress Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unity source package in Trusty: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] On resume from suspend, screen contents are displayed for a brief time (perhaps 0.5 to 1 sec) before the lock dialog appears. These screen contents are not always the desktop or open application beneath the lock screen. On at least one occasion, the screen showed content from a full-screen video that had been playing in Firefox some time before the computer had been suspended: neither the video nor its underlying tab were open anymore, so the image(s) was likely part of a buffer somewhere. (Needless to say, if the wrong full-screen video had been watched, depending on the setting, this could be a quite serious issue for some users). [Test Case] Suspend and resume the computer (closing the lid or using the session indicator). Since this problem involves a race condition, it is not reliably reproducable at will. [Regression Potential] This fix unmaps windows when a suspend or shutdown event occurs: it is possible that the window(s) do not get remapped when a wake event occurs, or the wake even does not get propagated. This does not appear to occur in practice. This makes very hard to switch between similarly looking windows like terminals. [ Test Case ] * launch four or so terminal windows; * write something different on each of them to be able to tell them apart; * move each window to a different corner, possibly using the auto-resizing feature of Unity; * click on the terminal icon in the launcher; * many terminal windows are displayed; * choose the thumbnail in the right-top corner; * very likely a window that was in another corner has been selected; * try again various time and realize how confusing this all is. Please update Ubuntu 15.04 packages to the latest stable Inkscape version. Packages for Uuntu 14.x, 12.04 and 15.04 are available at ppa:inkscape.dev/stable - see https://launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/+archive/ubuntu/stable This release marks the culmination of a multi-year effort to switch to a new internal graphics rendering engine, Cairo. This brings performance enhancements and more accurate rendering of drawings. A new Trace Pixel Art feature enables creation of vector art from bitmaps, sprites, and icons. A new Symbols Library provides reusable graphics elements - you can even read in Visio symbol libraries. New Snapping options and improved Snap preferences make it easier to quickly place items in the alignments you need. The tools for arranging objects offer several new ways to position the elements of a drawing. Tons of other little improvements have been made across all the other tools as well. Several new file formats are supported, including FXG, SIF and HTML5 export; and VSD and CDR import. EMF/WMF are now readable and writable for all platforms. And XCF, PDF, EPS, and PS+LaTeX support are improved. Inkscape has a rich Extension ecosystem, which is well known for bringing clever, cool, and innovative new ideas. Over a dozen new extensions are added in this release, including an Isometric Grid Generator, a Bitmap Cropper, a Text Extractor and a Text Merger, an HSL Adjuster, a Font Replacer, a Voronoï Diagram Creator, and more. The above barely scratches the surface of all the new stuff included in this release. Open a terminal in virtualbox and run the following command:- watch xrandr This will show the current resolution (which on my 1080p desktop is 1855x1034) - attached max.png Enter spread on the host with Super+W Observe the guest repainting the desktop Wait a second or two for xrandr to display the new resolution (which on my machine goes to 1855x1006 - a reduction of 28px) - attached spread.png Exit spread and observe the screen size goes back to what it was before. Yes, it's short, but you could take a picture or even rm -rf / if there happened to be a root console available. [Regression Potential] An improper implementation of the fix for this issue could result in an indefinite hang during system shutdown, or could result in the problem not being completely fixed and the security vulnerability continuing. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1420877] [NEW] bash hangs, apparantly in connection with large outputs
Public bug reported: I use the bash in a gnome-terminal window with several open tabs. It happens frequently (once in a work day) that a bash tab simply stops to respond, i.e., it takes no key-strokes anymore. As other tabs continue to work I guess its not the fault of gnome-terminal but the bash hangs. I can observe this behavior on two PCs. Configure the keyboard so that Both shifts together toggles CapsLock 2. Lock the screen using Super+L or menus 3. Press both shifts together to turn the capslock on 4. The lockscreen input field should show a warning 5. Press the shifts again, and the warning should be hidden [Regression potential] None - Version: 7.2.2+14.04.20140714-0ubuntu1 (trusty) Some users like to remap the way the activate capslock. For example, using gnome-tweak-tool it's possible to set the CapsLock key to behave as an extra Ctrl, or an extra Alt (or several other extras) and then set Both shifts together toggle CapsLock. This works perfectly well inside Unity, the hardware keyboard led indicator shows up, etc. However, the lockscreen detector doesn't correctly warn or not warn when this setup is used. * If the lockscreen was activated with capslock on, then the double-shift makes capslock go away, but not the warning. * If the lockscreen was activated with capslock off, then the double-shift makes capslock on, but no warning shows up. I believe the problem is in this piece of code in unity- shared/TextInput.cpp: void TextInput::OnKeyUp(unsigned keysym, unsigned long keycode, unsigned long state) { if (!caps_lock_on keysym == NUX_VK_CAPITAL) caps_lock_on = true; else if (caps_lock_on keysym == NUX_VK_CAPITAL) caps_lock_on = false; } This is checking for specific key, instead of the fact that CapsLock was activated or not. [Test Case] See http://askubuntu.com/questions/445131/how-do-i-enable-a-specific- pam-config-in-the-lockscreen So this feature request is about allowing for a (optional) pam config file for the lock-screen, distinct from the /etc/pam.d/lightdm currently used and shared with the greeter.
