This shouldn't be marked as expired. The bug still affects me, the display freezes periodically when using the nvidia card and can only be recovered by switching in an out of the dm. However, this makes normal work impossible. So I think everybody just uses their intel card instead. Any system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected non-latin keyboard layout. Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly. Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system parameters->keyboard->hotkeys->windows works perfect with any keyboard layout. Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non- latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin layouts this workaround helps only with one of them. Dear Ubuntu users and developers! Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin shortcuts problems: 1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean installed 2. What keyboard layout do you have 3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use 4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell, GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz) 5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA, non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1258778] Re: IBus input candidates not shown in GNOME Fallback session
Are you sure this is fixed in 14.04? I'm still not able to add IBus input candidates in GNOME Fallback's Text Entry settings. I had to resort to manually editing the settings through dconf-editor, as described here: http://askubuntu.com/a/512259 Having done that, the language is added to the indicator in the panel, but switching via the hotkey doesn't work: It changes the indicator to the IBus layout, but the keyboard presses are those of the previously- cycled xkb layout. Selecting the input method by clicking the indicator with the mouse works fine. Note: It works fine in 15.04, but 14.04 is an LTS release, and a fix would be appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to ibus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258778 Title: IBus input candidates not shown in GNOME Fallback session Status in ibus package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: I was able to add "Chinese (Pinyin)" as input method in Ubuntu 13.10's new "Text Entry Settings". Switching between "English (US)" and Chinese entry works for me, generally. When I'm using the "Ubuntu (Default)" (Unity) session, input candidates are also properly shown (a little floating window that shows candidate Chinese characters while typing). However, when I use the "GNOME Fallback" or "GNOME with Xmonad" session, as I normally do, the candidates do not show up at all. This makes Pinyin input useless. While being able to use prime-select to switch between those cards with Ubuntu 14.X and official nvidia drivers it stopped working when switching to ubuntu 15.04 and newer drivers. I'm not sure when the problem first arises, but I'm stucking with it for almost 5 month. In the meanwhile I stumbled upon errors in xorg.log pointing to insufficient permissions related to DRM and intel driver. I switched to a newer kernel 4.1.x and the xorg.log error had gone, but the general problem remains. A month ago I switched to a 15.10 daily build to test if the bug still exists there. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1240198] Re: [SRU]Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop
How to test if the proposed package fixes this: 1. Install proposed package 2. create new user 3. login as the new user 4. run dconf read /desktop/ibus/general/use-system-keyboard-layout The result should be 'true'. I don't have a machine with 14.04 anymore so I can't test this. Please folks, lets finally get this fixed. For all non-english users this is a major annoyance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to ibus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240198 Title: [SRU]Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop Status in ibus package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in ibus source package in Trusty: Triaged Bug description: [Impact] When first boot into Unity desktop, English keyboard layout is active while all other parts of the system language settings are set to another language (e.g. German). The bug is properly addressed in newer upstream releases in Vivid, but the changes is too intrusive and not suitable for being back ported in SRU. And changing the default to use system keyboard layout solves the problem. [Test Case] 1. Set the system language to something other than English, e.g. German. 2. Create a new user, log in to the Unity desktop of the new user. 3. Check the keyboard layout, it should be German instead of English. [Regression Potential] Since this changes the default value of the keyboard layout settings by using system defined as default, it avoids using ibus's built-in keyboard layout related functionality, so that this could be a regression for users rely on this certain behavior (e.g. use English keyboard while want to keep the system language settings to German), but such behavior is not expected for normal usage. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1296275] Re: PTP Cameras not working on 14.04, works flawlessly on 12.04
this bug still affects me on 15.04 with a canon sx130is camera -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1296275 Title: PTP Cameras not working on 14.04, works flawlessly on 12.04 Status in gvfs: Unknown Status in libgphoto: New Status in Rapid Photo Downloader: Invalid Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in libgphoto2 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in gvfs source package in Trusty: Won't Fix Status in libgphoto2 source package in Trusty: Fix Released Status in gvfs source package in Utopic: Triaged Status in libgphoto2 source package in Utopic: Fix Released Bug description: I have a Canon Powershot A3200 camera. It works perfectly on 12.04, pops right up when I plug it in. However on 14.04 nothing happens. lsusb outputs shows that the camera is detected, with the right model. SRU INFORMATION: IMPACT: All PtP cameras which don't have an explicit vendor/model match in /lib/udev/hwdb.d/20-libgphoto2-6.hwdb stop working in gvfs/shotwell/etc. This is a regression since Saucy. FIX: Bring back the udev rule to tag generic PtP devices that we had had for many releases. This will tag the udev_device with the ID_GPHOTO2 property which is where gvfs and friends are looking (not on the usb_interface child). Patch: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/177343655/libgphoto2_2.5.4-1ubuntu1_2.5.4-1ubuntu2.diff.gz REGRESSION POTENTIAL: Very low. Adding tags to the wrong device might confuse gvfs/shotwell and friends, but this rule had been in production for many years. Broken udev rules are harmless except for error spew in syslog, and this doesn't interfere with the hwdb database as it only matches on usb_devices, not on usb_interfaces. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1491999] Re: [P750ZM-G, Realtek ALC892, Black SPDIF Out, Rear] No sound at all
Since I have the same sound driver I think my solution may be correct. I didn't have sound and it turned out that somehow alsa had mixed up my headphone and microphone jack. Try sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui Then open with hdajackretask It was simple for me to switch the microphone with the headphone and everything started working. By the way I noticed this by plugging in my headphones into my microphone jack and all the sudden it was recognized as a headphone, but sound still didn't work because it was a microphone jack. I'm guessing you would of noticed if this was the case, but it took me a long time to try this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1491999 Title: [P750ZM-G, Realtek ALC892, Black SPDIF Out, Rear] No sound at all Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I had sound before I upgraded from 15.04 to 15.10. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1240198] Re: [SRU]Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop
I tried the steps to test the proposed package, but the dconf key is not available on my system and thus has no output. The system language and keyboard are set to German in both cases. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1501039] Re: Xmir from overlay PPA no longer tells client about resize events in non-rootless
Note: I'm still working on improving this. Window resizing for the non- rootless case is still quite unstable and glitchy (because it changes the whole screen size and not just a window). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1505070] [NEW] gnome-session-quit --power-off produces immediate shutdown
Public bug reported: I am finding that sometimes when I use the command "gnome-session-quit --power-off", it results in immediate shutdown, even though it should (and usually does) result in a dialog box with options for shutdown, reboot, and suspend. Getting a shutdown when a suspend is sought is problematic. I am using Ubuntu 14.04LTS and I call the command from a keyboard shortcut. ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I am finding that sometimes when I use the command "gnome-session-quit --power-off", it results in immediate shutdown, even though it should (and usually does) result in a dialog box with options for shutdown, reboot, and suspend. The scroll wheel on my desktop mouse (it's an MS wireless optical mouse model 1008) scrolls rather fast. Instead of moving a few lines, it scrolls half a page or more with a very gentle scroll. The bluetooth mouse I use with my laptop does not do this so it's probably somewhat hardware specific. However, I'm wondering if there is a way to modify the speed or sensitivity. I found an answer here from about a year ago (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/1339) that suggests there isn't a way but I'm wondering if anything has changed since then. I've also skimmed through synaptic but didn't see anything promising (like gsynaptic for touchpads). Thanks. See https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/9200 for more information. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 977228] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04] gnome-screenshot forgets "last-save-directory"
Auto save directory/last save directory both work for me if I call gnome-screenshot or gnome-screenshot --interactive from an xterm, but neither work when I press Print Screen. 'Screenshot of a window' and 'screenshot of an area' behave identically. I worked around this issue by defining custom keyboard shortcuts to 'gnome-screenshot', 'gnome-screenshot -w', 'gnome-screenshot -a'. My hunch is that the default shortcuts are passing '--file=$FILENAME' to gnome-screenshot, after failing to define the filename properly (they shouldn't pass --file to gnome-screenshot at all, imo), but I'm not sure where to look to track down where this behavior is defined. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-screenshot in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/977228 Title: [Ubuntu 12.04] gnome-screenshot forgets "last-save-directory" Status in gnome-screenshot package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 12.04, Beta 2 1) press [PrintScreen] to do a screenshot 2) gnome-screenshot proposes to save it in "$HOME/pictures" 3) change location to "$HOME/videos" or similiar and close gnome-screenshot 4) press [PrintScreen] again and take another screenshot 6) tool wants to save picture in "$HOME/pictures" again 5) expected behaviour: proposes to save pic in "$HOME/videos" BTW: Setting a fixed path in dconf-editor entry "last-save-directory" doesn't change anything.
