[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-06-19 Thread Thomas Klute
The video player workaround works with mpv, too, but apparently I have
to move the cursor over the player window. Just starting and immediately
stopping mpv was not enough. My mpv configuration uses OpenGL/VAAPI
output.

Status in X.Org X server:

Status in xf86-video-intel:
  Fix Released
Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Cursor is visible at unlock screen either after returning from suspend
  or just locking.

After unlocking screen cursor is invisible.

Changing to vt1 then back to vt7 (ctrl+alt+f1 then ctrl+alt+f7) cursor
  returns

no matter if you suspend or sleep, to swap or disk when you return
from it, the mouse cursor is missing.you can still move the mouse
and you can see (because it highlights the window) as you move it
around. But the cursor is not displayed on the screen.

i am using a lenovo W540 laptop. I downloaded the latest beta on
  april 8 2016.

this is xubuntu using the xfce window manager.

the cursor does return if i log off and log back in, but that actually
defeats the purpose of going to sleep.

Title:
[SRU] Backport upstream multi-seat patches for Xephyr in Xenial

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Some valuable patches [1] for input-hotplugging and single-GPU multi-
seat support in Xephyr were upstreamed and scheduled for next major
release (1.19). It would be a quite valuable feature for a LTS
release, without need to maintain a forked package in Ubuntu Multiset
PPA. Plase consider backporting them to Xenial.

  [1]: https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/patch/?id=6d6fd688ecf9
   https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/patch/?id=0b80da0d1871
   https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/patch/?id=edd443f69ea3
   https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/patch/?id=7213e99cbc38
   https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/patch/?id=da69f2f15a99
   https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/patch/?id=0cf3d72be6bd
   https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/patch/?id=40e32e9fc9f3
   https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/patch/?id=851ff9ec04b7
   https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/patch/?id=daa6d2d58f65

  [Test Case]

Run Xephyr with option "-seat seat-", where seat- is a valid
seat name (i.e. it must correspond to a seat already present in
"loginctl list-seats" output). Without those patches, Xephyr is unable
to grab that seat's input devices properly.

  [Regression Potential]

Very low. It only affects Xephyr when executed with -seat command-line
option. For ordinary Xephyr use case (without -seat option), nothing
  changes.

example, "Ubuntu 14.04 Community Wallapers" which is defined by

  3. Lock the screen and notice the changed background appears on the user's
Light DM lock scren.
  4. Log back in.
  5. Now, log-out of the user's account to show the Light DM Login screen.

  6. Notice that the changed background does *not* appear on the user's
Light DM login scren. The Ligh DM screen is blank. (This is the
issue; the same background that was shown on the user's home screen
and the user's Lock screen should appear here).

  7. Now, login to the same user's account.
  8. Notice there is screen corruption / tearing for a few seconds until the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594229] [NEW] Not able to use multiple USC instances

Public bug reported:

LightDM currently uses one Unity System Compositor instance per Mir
session for the xlocal seat. This is not allowed with modern versions of
USC. We should share one USC in this case.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1575731] Re: Thunderbird package is out of date

2016-06-19 Thread Eugene San
** Description changed:

- The fixes in 38.7, which was released on the 14th of March 2016 [0], six
- of which are deemed critical [1].
+ Despite Thunderbird being updated on 38.x branch (original bug was
+ probably filed before recent updates to the package), there is at least
+ one significant security related feature introduced in 45.x branch,
+ OAuth2.0.
+
+ It would be nice if maintainers (“Mozilla Team”) could provide an update
+ to Thunderbird via Security or Backports channels.

In addition to 38.7, 45.0 has six further fixes also deemed critical.

In addition to these twelve critical vulnerabilities there are a further
10 (6 high, 2 moderate, 2 low) that have been patched since 38.6, which
is the latest version available in ubuntu.

Both these releases have yet to be officially released by ubuntu.

Bug description:
Ubuntu 16.04 comes with Thunderbird 38.x, which apparently is no
longer supported by Mozilla. In reply to a bug report, they said

"Can you please upgrade to TB 45. TB 38 has come to the end of its
  life-cycle."

I don't know if that is authoritative, but if TB 38 is really EOL then
the current Ubuntu should probably ship with a newer version.

  Thanks.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-06-19 Thread Patrick Gruber
I'm sorry, I got a little ahead of myself there.
Parole is the standard video player that Xubuntu comes with.

Now that I tried it a couple of ways, the video player brings the mouse
pointer back, even after unlocking the screen (by simply bringing the
application to the foreground). VLC shows the same behavior as Parole.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-06-19 Thread Patrick Gruber
I have had the same problem since I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 (Lenovo X250
hardware using LightDM as the default screen locker).
Today I noticed that my cursor does not disappear, if I have "Parole" (paused)
in the foreground before locking my machine.

Can somebody else confirm this behavior?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1575426] Re: Gnome Software doesn't update after refreshing system repositories

2016-06-19 Thread Ty Young
I'm not an expert on these things or even very knowledgeable about Linux
in general, but based on my own personal experience that does seem to be
the case. All of these bugs(including the one you linked):

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1577253
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1572155

seem to be caused by the same issue. Doing a system restart fixes every
single one of them(I have experienced all of them).

Also noticed that this issue can also cause system updates to be offered
even though they where already installed.

Title:
Gnome Software doesn't update after refreshing system repositories

Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is similar to bug 1583403 but it's a little bit different.

  [What happens]
  ==
  Installing

  1. sudo apt install gnome-clocks
  2. After installation completes, open the Software app.
  3. Search for clocks.
  4. The Clocks app shows up with an Install button.
  5. Differently from bug 1583403, Clocks does not show up in the Installed
page either.
  6. Force-kill the gnome-software background processeither by logging out or
by running $ pkill gnome-software
  7. Open the Software app. Now Clocks show correctly as being installed.

  [What should happen]
  ===
4-5. The Clocks app shows up with a Remove button in the All page and the
Installed page.

Similarly, I'm getting prompts to install system updates that I've
installed hours before from the command line. (I can file a separate
bug for that although it feels like it might be the same issue.)

  Original bug report
  ===
Gnome Software doesn't immediately update after updating the system
repositories, even after application restart. This results in application
versions and other details being listed correctly, even though the correct
version will be downloaded correctly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594166] [NEW] tramp loading stalls several seconds on DNS resolution

2016-06-19 Thread Mike Magin
Public bug reported:

Xenial's emacs24-common contains a version of tramp.el which attempts to
ssh to host.does.not.exist on load which causes loading tramp to stall
until this hostname resolution fails (10 seconds for me). This makes my
emacs startup (I load tramp via other libraries which use it) take about
12 seconds, instead of a fraction of a second like it should be.

Upstream maintainers seem to have fixed this to attempt ssh to 0.0.0.1
instead, see the git log output attached.

no matter if you suspend or sleep, to swap or disk when you return
from it, the mouse cursor is missing.you can still move the mouse
and you can see (because it highlights the window) as you move it

Xenial was released with upstream beta2 version of network-manager to keep in
time for the release schedule, and upstream stable release has been made so
it's time to update to it.

  [Testcase]
After upgrading the package, user should still be able to connect to networks
like Ethernet, Wi-Fi and VPNs.

  [Regression Potential]
Potential of causing regression is relatively small because there is not big
changes made during beta2 -> stable process.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594156] [NEW] KIPI plugins not working on Gwenview - Kubuntu 16.04

2016-06-19 Thread VaryHeavy
Public bug reported:

In Kubuntu 16.04, Gwenview plugins are missing, so at the plugins
submenus only appears the option "KXML Hello World..." instead of the
habitual list of plugins for manipulating images.

In this moment, I have installed Gwenview 15.12.3-0ubuntu1 and kipi-
plugins 4.12.0-0ubuntu7, with PPA backports activated, but I have
noticed that in Kubuntu 16.04 live image this bug is already present.

I know that is a problem of the Kubuntu packages because I had trying on
OpenSUSE Leap 42.1, and there the KIPI plugins work correctly on
Gwenview.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2016-06-19 Thread Ruslan
In general, to begin finding what application takes your Android device,
try the following command:

sudo lsof | grep /usb/

This should give you some pointers to processes using files in e.g.
/dev/bus/usb/.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1537566] Re: LibreOffice crashed but apport didn't log a crash file in /var/crash despite being enabled

2016-06-19 Thread Phil Troy
I have LibreOffice 5.1.3.2 installed via Lubuntu 16.04 Software Center.
It crashes an awful lot. In particular, it crashed Lubuntu while
working on a writer document document, and each time I relog in and try
to have it recover the document and crashes Lubuntu again. I am using
synergyc 1.5.1 on my machine.

crash are picked up by apport so appears LO+apport issue.

I don't have any 3rd party LO plugins installed.

lightdm with unity-greeter (all stock, nothing changed) can't connect

WiFi works after loggin it, but it should be working before also, if
not, what's the point in having an icon there :)

I get the following message: Failed to add/activate connection. - (1)

  This worked fine in 14.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594127] Re: No update

2016-06-19 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

Are you reporting a bug against xorg, the update/upgrade process or
something else?

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-06-19 Thread Christian Dysthe
I also see the same problem coming out of suspend. Manually restarting
network-manager with 'sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service' is
a workaround but not a solution. I go in and out of suspend a lot with
my laptop so this one is very annoying.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1589585] Re: Ubuntu Software tab Installed refreshing endlessly every 2 seconds

2016-06-19 Thread grofaty
Hi,
just a quick question. I also have a problem with audio. Is this problem
related to "fwupd and audio"? When starting "VLC Media Player" I get error:
==
Audio output failed:
The audio device "default" could not be used:
Connection refused.
==

looking into "System Setting" | Sound and on Ouput and Input there are
no devices specified and on "Sound Effects" there is only "default". I
know this was working before seeing the devices here. The "default" from
VLC error is probably the "default" from "Sound Effects".

I was searching the web and found this "USB audio device is not
recognized after startup in 16.04" with URL:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fwupd/+bug/1574079 and there
is reference to "fwupd" and gnome-software.

What I am wondering maybe there is common cause for my problem "gnome-
sofware" endless spinning (current bug report) and VLC/audio problem.

Looks like there were some fixed developed and are currently in
"proposed" repository.

What do you think? Are this problems related?

P.S. I have also posted a question on Lenovo forum, to see if someone
knows how to disable (if possible) figerprint device in BIOS:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T61-and-prior-T-series/How-to-
disable-Figerprint-Reader-in-BIOS-or-in-Ubuntu-16-04/td-p/3353318

Title:
Ubuntu Software tab Installed refreshing endlessly every 2 seconds

Status in fwupd package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have fresh installed Ubuntu 16.04 Desktop 32-bit. After each install
for years one of the first thing I do is uninstall some of the
applications that I don't need to preserve some downloading/installing
of applications that I don't need.

I opened Ubuntu Software, click on Installed tab and now the problem
appears. Every two seconds whole screen gets to gray and refreshing
appears which takes 2 seconds. This loops endlessly. It is very
frustrating, because Ubuntu Software is unusable in my case.

I have asked the question on forum:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2326701=13498876 and one of
suggestion was to remove the software and install it back.

  I did:
  sudo apt install gnome-software
  sudo apt purge gnome-software
  sudo apt autoremove
  sudo apt autoclean
  sudo apt install gnome-software

Started Ubuntu Software and the problem remains the same.

P.S. New problem appeared now Ubuntu Software icon on Launcher is not
the same (orange color), but it has changed (white color). But this is
  not huge problem, just annoyance.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1593561] Re: help of germany

2016-06-19 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also change the bug title to be more descriptive of you problem.

Thanks!

Title:
Light DM does not show the current automatic wallpaper changer
  background on Login Screen

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  1. Change background and select an automatically changing background (for
example, "Ubuntu 14.04 Community Wallapers" which is defined by
/usr/share/backgrounds/contest/trusty.xml).
  2. Wait about 1/2 hr and notice that the background automatically changes.

  8. Notice there is screen corruption / tearing for a few seconds until the
user's correct dynamic background is displayed and the screen is repainted.
(This may be a side-effect of the issue in step 6).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1573447] Re: large jpeg file crashes Eye of Gnome

2016-06-19 Thread Jose Gómez
Note, though that in my case I don't see any error if I launch it in a
terminal. The system halts for a few seconds while loading the file, and
then eog just crashes. It doesn't give me the chance to send an error
report.

  Hello,

Have been experiencing an issue when I type the password for drive

picks up my password with the QUERTY layout. I go through the full
install process and after the 1st reboot the OS asks for the drive
encryption password which is stored with the wrong keyboard layout
(QUERTY in my case). Without a hack to figure out what are the keys
equivalent, I am not able to use the fresh OS install and I have to go
through the install again; when I use QUERTY/AZERTY keys that are not
similar for the drive encryption password. That bug being said, a few
times I did not use that security function or I purposely use a weak
password to be sure to able to log into the fresh Ubuntu install. I
have done the test on the 14.04 release and I have experienced the
same bug on the latest Xunbuntu release as well.

  Thank you,
  Bob

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594087] [NEW] Wouldn't find any wifi network after suspend/resume, restart fixed the issue

2016-06-19 Thread teo1978
Public bug reported:

I suspended (note: suspended, not hibernated) and resumed. I do this all
the time and usually the computer immediately reconnects to my wifi
router.

This time it didn't. So I clicked on the network icon and there were no
wifi networks in the list.

I turned wifi off and on via Fn+F3, which usually forces a re-scan of
available wifi networks. However, it would still list no network. I
repeated several times with no luck.

I checked my phone which was connected to the same wifi network and
working.

So I restarted the computer and this time it immediately connected, and
also now the other available networks are listed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594085] [NEW] Software app very slow to fully start up

2016-06-19 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

This is follow-up for bug 1592678 which more or less requests that
gnome-software not run a background service.

1. From a terminal, run pkill gnome-software to kill the background service.
2. Start the Software app and click one of the apps on the front page to see
more info about it.

What happens

In my testing on a Ubuntu 16.04 Live DVD in VirtualBox with a traditional
non-SSD hard drive and 1.5 GB allocated RAM (admittedly not the speediest
environment), it took 90 seconds for that info page to load!

Once that page is loaded, browsing to other pages doesn't take long at
all. Or if you just wait 2 minutes first then it's not that slow either.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1580376] Re: Update giflib Xenial Package to 5.1.4

2016-06-19 Thread John Cupitt
I can confirm that `sudo apt-get install libgif-dev/xenial-proposed`
fixes the libvips test suite failures for me. Previously I saw errors
from direct gif load, and load via imagemagick. I now see a clean run.

Thank you for updating this library.

Bug description:
Ubuntu Xenial Xerus currently ships with giflib 5.1.2-0.2, which is
completely broken.
It fails to read gif images in both libvips and imagemagick.

Please update to 5.1.4-0.2, which is already published in Yakkety Yak.

I have build the 5.1.4-0.2 package on Xenial and can confirm that it
fixes both of the above mentioned problems.

The upstream bug report is: https://sourceforge.net/p/giflib/bugs/94/

  And fix release is 5.1.4.

Prepared 5.1.4, test built in the PPA ubuntu-toolchain-r/ppa, and
test-build all rdeps in main (emacs24 libgdiplus libwebp openjdk-8
  tracker).

Acceptance criteria: Builds, and tests succeed on all architectures.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1592678] Re: gnome-software starts very early in the session, slowing down boot

2016-06-19 Thread Jeremy Bicha
And because it runs all the time, we get issues like bug 1594080. It
also worsens bugs like bug 1575426 where a user attempts to work around
the issue by restarting the Software app (only it's not actually
restarted because the process never stopped running).

Now that gnome-software's update notifier has been disabled [1], is
there any reason gnome-software needs a background service anyway?
packagekit or whatever can finish installing or removing an app in the
background without gnome-software needing to still be running for that,
right?

instead

Unlike previous versions of Ubuntu Unity, I'm unable to install the

  https://www.google.com/tools/dlpage/hangoutplugin

After downloading, I open the deb file from Firefox and it launches

The first time I click the install button in gnome-software, I notice
a strange repositioning of the layout, but nothing else happens.

Clicking the install button a second time puts a
question-mark-progress-launcher onto the launcher (task) bar, but it never
progresses:

9. It still doesn't actually install.
10. Log out and log back in. (If you are using the live DVD/USB, the username
is 'ubuntu'. Leave the password blank.). (Alternatively, you can run pkill
gnome-software in your terminal.
11. Repeat steps 2-5. Google Chrome will successfully install.

Title:
gnome-software does not reload itself after being upgraded

Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  This bug was inspired by
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1573408/comments/40

  What happens

After gnome-software itself is upgraded to a new version, a user needs to log
out and log back in (or otherwise kill the background gnome-software service)
to run the new version.

  What should happen
  ==
gnome-software should restart the background service when gnome-software is
upgraded to a new version.

This issue could instead be mitigated if gnome-software was not
*always* running in the background but only ran occasionally as
  suggested by bug 1592678.

  How to reproduce

Let's test bug 1573408, the inability to install 3rd party apps issue.
  1. Since this was a bug released with Ubuntu 16.04, start with a fresh Ubuntu
16.04 install. You can even use the live DVD/USB for this test.
  2. Open Firefox and browse to https://www.google.com/chrome/
  3. Click the Download now button then click Accept and install.
  4. Click OK to open with Software Install.
  5. After a few moments, the Software app opens with a basic info page about
google-chrome-stable. Click Install.
  6. It doesn't actually install.
  7. Open a terminal and run sudo apt update; sudo apt install gnome-software
This will upgrade you to a version that fixes this bug.
  8. Repeat steps 2-5. (Note that it doesn't matter whether you closed the
Software app window or not after step 7.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594079] [NEW] Unity Lens Search does not always find applications on Ubuntu 16.04

2016-06-19 Thread Robert Orzanna
Public bug reported:

Dear all,

The Unity Lens Search does not always find applications.

1. Please see screenshot "sig1.png". I type "Sig" but only folders are found
2. I press Escape to delete my search query
3. I retype "Sig" and now Signal application is found as shown in "sig2.png".

Can someone reproduce this on Ubuntu 16.04?

Thankfully,

~Robert

Title:
  Can't use networkmanager from lightdm

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in unity-greeter package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After upgrading to 16.04 desktop (unity) (clean install) from 14.04,
(so not really upgrading, but you get the point) I noticed that
lightdm with unity-greeter (all stock, nothing changed) can't connect
  to WiFi with network-manager.

WiFi works after loggin it, but it should be working before also, if
not, what's the point in having an icon there :)

I get the following message: Failed to add/activate connection. - (1)
Insufficient privileges. - see image.
  This worked fine in 14.04.

I have noticed this problem in both my desktop (Broadcom WiFi) and
Laptop (Intel WiFi) - So it has nothing to be with the chip.

Feel free to ask for more info.

  Edit:

  From syslog:

Unlike previous versions of Ubuntu Unity, I'm unable to install the
google-talk-plugin in Ubuntu 16.04, where it (the deb) can be downloaded here:
  https://www.google.com/tools/dlpage/hangoutplugin

After downloading, I open the deb file from Firefox and it launches
the gnome-software package (used in Unity now).

The first time I click the install button in gnome-software, I notice
a strange repositioning of the layout, but nothing else happens.

Clicking the install button a second time puts a
question-mark-progress-launcher onto the launcher (task) bar, but it never
progresses:

So far, no one has offered a workaround:

Title:
Volume notification keeps popping up constantly(the notifyosd bubble
  on top-right corner)

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 yesterday, I did a clean install while
preserving the home directory which is mounted in a separate
partition. Even during the installation I had constant volume
notification bubble appearing on the top-right corner of my screen, it
would come and go about twice every minute. I just thought it was due
to installing hardware drivers or something but the problem persisted
even when I booted into the freshly installed system. I did some
searching and two users reported the exact problem. And one more
suggested this happens because constant disconnect and reconnect of
the sound card which makes sense as the sound settings flashes briefly
during every popup. Someone on IRC suggested to kill pulseaudio and
thus restart it, that does not fix the issue. I also tried the Live
environment thinking it might be due to some old config files in home
partition (which was preserved during upgrade), but this problem
happens in the live environment as well, which makes sense because it
was present during installation as well.
