[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1641844] [NEW] Please provide Firefox Beta and Dev PPA with separate package for install on Ubuntu Linux together with stable firefox package
Public bug reported: Many users want to have stable and beta/alpha version of Firefox together on system, for compare and test features. In windows there are easy, but in Linux - not easy. Here if official Mozilla PPA for beta versions: Official PPA for Firefox Beta https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/ubuntu/firefox-next Official PPA for Thunderbird Beta https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/ubuntu/thunderbird-next But packages in all this PPA replaces current stable version of Firefox in system, so users can't run at same time two versions of Firefox. Compiling Firefox from sources is too hard way for most of users - нere is example of long instructions how to do this manually: http://askubuntu.com/questions/548003/how-do-i-install-the-firefox- developer-edition And here is good example for trunk version https://launchpad.net /~ubuntu-mozilla-daily/+archive/ubuntu/ppa - I can install it separately via easy way, without touching current system stable firefox. Can you provide same separate package for firefox beta versions, named like firefox-beta, that install Firefox beta together with system Firefox package, with separate config folder, without touching system default firefox? And will be good to see same PPA with separate Firefox deveopment version (firefox-dev) package and alpha versions. This will be very useful for many users! Thanks. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641844 Title: Please provide Firefox Beta and Dev PPA with separate package for install on Ubuntu Linux together with stable firefox package Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Many users want to have stable and beta/alpha version of Firefox together on system, for compare and test features. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1639371] Re: OpenGL Graphics broken on November 4th upgrades
I agree with your theory, theoretically... If the NVIDIA driver was installed manually (from nvidia.com) then I can confirm that easily causes installation/uninstallation problems and incorrect GL libraries. I ruined a whole machine by doing that this year. However your NVIDIA driver is installed as a deb from the official Ubuntu archive so it should not experience such installation problems, usually. Alberto will be able to provide more information as he built the driver package in question. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-340 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1639371 Title: OpenGL Graphics broken on November 4th upgrades Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-340 package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: First: I don't know if I'm reporting this against the correct package. After today's upgrade, it was unable to display graphics, reporting "Caused by: javax.media.opengl.GLException: Profile GL_DEFAULT is not available on X11GraphicsDevice[type .x11, connection :0.0" The symptom in Scilab was that the graphics window opened, but no graph was drawn upon it. glxinfo is unable to find an RGB visual; I assume that means that GL is broken -- glxinfo certainly works just fine on another machine upon which Scilab also works just fine. ubuntu-drivers devices returns == /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:01.0 == modalias : pci:v1002d130Fsv1043sd85CBbc03sc00i00 vendor : Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. These printers are capable to inform the clients computers about all their capabilities (paper sizes, resolutions, finishers, ...) via IPP and understand known standard page description languages (always PWG Raster, but can also understand PostScript, PDF, JPEG, and/or PCL). So no drivers for these printers are needed. With CUPS, cups-filters, and one of Ghostscript, Poppler, or MuPDF they are fully supported. Yakkety is intended to support them, but getting my hands on an IPP Everywhere printer (which takes PWG Raster as inpout format) I have found some issues: - CUPS selects a filter chain using MuPDF but MuPDF is not installed by default. - In contrary to CUPS Raster, PWG Raster contains a full page bitmap of the page, including the unprintable margins. Margins in the header are set to zero. - Filter chains could send CUPS Raster instead of PWG Raster. - Printed pages are not logged in /var/log/cups/page_log. All these issued are fixed in cups-filters 1.11.5 and in a patch to Ghostscript (already upstream). This bug report is for an SRU for Yakkety to fix the issues also there. [Impact] With "CreateIPPPrinterQueues Yes" set in /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf IPP Everywhere printers are discovered in the network and automatically set up but they only print if mutool (package mupdf- tools) is installed. This leaves users with non-working print queues. [Testcase] Set "CreateIPPPrinterQueues Yes" in /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf and restart cups-browsed. If an IPP Everywhere printer is in the network, it will be detected but you cannot print on the auto-generated queue. After installing the mupdf-tools package printing works. With the fixed cups-filters and Ghostscript installed mupdf-tools is not needed. Jobs get filtered via Ghostscript and printing on the IPP Everywhere printer works. [Regression Potential] Small, as changes in the filter chain only happen if PWG Raster is involved and this happens only with IPP Everywhere printers. Only the output of PWG Raster and not of any other format is modified. What's more, if I set the option "Show the menus for a window" to "In the window's title bar" in the Appearance control panel, then the top-level menu in gnome-calendar is no longer available at all. Since gnome-calendar is in main, it should be patched to have an Ubuntu title bar, just like other GNOME applications. ** Affects: gnome-calendar (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-calendar in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641740 Title: gnome-calendar needs an Ubuntu-style title bar Status in gnome-calendar package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: On both 16.10 (Yakkety) and 17.04 (Zesty), gnome-calendar has no Ubuntu-style title bar displaying the name of the program. With the fixed cups-filters and Ghostscript installed mupdf-tools is not needed. Jobs get filtered via Ghostscript and printing on the IPP Everywhere printer works. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1641284] Re: libatk-adaptor breaks down the LibreOffice TexMaths extension
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: at-spi2-atk (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to at-spi2-atk in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641284 Title: libatk-adaptor breaks down the LibreOffice TexMaths extension Status in at-spi2-atk package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Package: libatk-adaptor 2.18.1-2ubuntu1 System: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (Xenial Xerus) If the package libatk-adaptor is installed on Ubuntu (as a depency of gnome-orca for example), it breaks down the LibreOffice TexMaths extension. TexMaths is a popular extension used to enter / edit LaTeX equations on LibreOffice (see http://roland65.free.fr/texmaths). Step to reproduce the bug: 1. It is assumed that LibreOffice 5.1.4 (with at least the Writer and Draw components) is installed on Ubuntu. It is also assumed that libatk-adaptor is installed. 2. Install texlive: sudo apt-get install texlive 3. Download and install the TexMaths extension (version 0.42) from there: https://sourceforge.net/projects/texmaths/files/0.42/ 4. Create a new empty Writer document, then click on the Pi icon (this is the TexMaths icon) and in the window that opens, type: 'x(t)+y(t)' (without the quotes), then click on the LaTeX button. This generates an SVG image of the 'x(t)+y(t)' equation. 5. Select the SVG image of the equation by left clicking on it. Then click on the Pi icon. Now, instead of editing the equation, an error message is displayed: "The selected object is not a TexMaths equation... Please unselect it and call the macro again...". 6. Now, right click on the SVG image and select the 'Description' menu voice. In the window that opens, the description is empty and does not contain the equation text, as it should. 7. Now purge (and not just remove) the libatk-adaptor package: sudo apt-get purge libatk-adaptor then logout and login and repeat the steps 4, 5, and 6: everything is OK and the equation can be edited as usual. Another way to remove the bug instead of purging libatk-adaptor is to rename the file: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk-adaptor to /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk-adaptor.orig . Then logout and login. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1639371] Re: OpenGL Graphics broken on November 4th upgrades
I have a combination that is working now, and this is my primary work computer. I'm a contract engineer, and when this thing is down I'm not earning my pay. So I really, really don't want to mess with it -- I'm sorry about that, but I hope you understand. However, as I get time, I'd be willing to install things on a USB stick and see if I can't replicate the problem there. Based on my own experience (I do embedded software work, but I'm just a user when it comes to Linux) I suspect that the actual problem is not the new driver itself, but that something in the installation process diddled with some global OpenGL settings that then broke either the Radeon driver, or OpenGL itself (I don't know if that makes sense, because I'm a USER. Call me if you're designing washing machine motor drive that buzzes on the spin cycle and I'll help you out, though). So the process that I'd suggest, if you're willing to help me out with the details, would be to install an entire pre-November 4 version of Xubuntu onto a USB stick, verify that OpenGL works, then do the November 4 upgrade, and test OpenGL again. I do have IT help on hand, whose familiar with Linux -- I just have to come up with appropriate bribes. So if it's too hard to describe to a knowledgeable user, describe it for someone who installs Arch onto a spare machine so that he can use that as a tool to talk to an obsolete Sun box that he's installing Gentoo upon -- he'll have the background to rapidly get things I don't. After a long investigation, I finally found the culprit: for some reason, the package gnome-orca was installed on my machines and this package pulls down the libatk-adaptor package, which in turn installs the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk-adaptor. I found that removing that file solves the problem and now LibreOffice Draw is fully responsive. Perhaps other graphic applications could suffer from the same problem, but I was not able to see some huge lag as in LO Draw. To reproduce: 1. install libatk-adaptor (version 2.18.1-2ubuntu1:amd64 of Ubuntu 16.04) or simply the gnome-orca package 2. open the attached file test.odg with LibreOffice Draw, and select a bunch of shapes (for example, the two axes and shapes of the page bottom). Then, try to move the selected shapes with the keyboard (shift + arrow) and you should see a severe lag. If you maintain the key pressed during the move, then the UI is blocked during some time. Moving the shapes using the mouse is faster but still quite slow as compared to the expected performance. 3. remove the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk-adaptor and restart X 4. open again the test.odg file. Now, moving a bunch of shapes using the keyboard (or the mouse) is very smooth and fluid, as it should be. This is 100% reproducible on all the machines I have where the libatk- adaptor package is installed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1641629] Re: Autocomplete popups are misplaced
I haven't seen the problem in other applications, but I mostly use Firefox. Other apps I regularly use are GEdit, Nautilus, GIMP and Eclipse. LibreOffice I use sometimes, but not that much. I did see the issue with menus in Firefox though, but it has not happened to me in a while, so I assumed it was fixed. When it happened, a workaround was to move the window a little bit. Like you, I have two monitors, but both are the same size. I am not sure it happened on both monitors, I'll keep an eye on it and report back here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641629 Title: Autocomplete popups are misplaced Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since Ubuntu 16.10, Firefox misplaces autocomplete popups. It seems pretty random and is hard to reproduce. When I get an incoming call, the screen turns on, the incoming call pop up appears, but there is no sound at all even though the phone is not in silent mode (and also the speaker volume is not set too low). I can accept this call and keep conversing as usual. Once I asked the same caller to call me once again after a few minutes, that time the phone rang as expected. Device: E5, OTA-12, stable channel I can provide necessary logs if this happens again. Which ones should I gather? Possibly related to bug #1614943. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1623666] Re: iOS10 will not connect to Ubuntu
Sam Gleske, with all due respect, that is not an really an answer. I am an end user, not a code developer, but I understood the basics of the problem with the package being built with GnuTLS instead of the correct version of OpenSSL. You are also incorrect with respect to libimobiledevice being fixed within the Ubuntu 16.04 repositories. The most recent version still has this bug and I confirmed that it still does not work either in Ubuntu 16.04 or the related Mint 18. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1281700] Re: policykit-1 is not aware of groups assigned by pam_group
I am affected by this as well. I want my LDAP users to be able to manage printers. I've tried removing authentication in cupsd.conf, this works for the CUPS interface. But not from 'Printers' in system settings. So instead I've added them to the lpadmin group with the pam mount module, but it is still not possible. As noted in another comment, id shows the user being a member of lpadmin, but id username doesn't. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to policykit-1 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1281700 Title: policykit-1 is not aware of groups assigned by pam_group Status in policykit-1 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm using pam_group for my ldap users so that they get assigned default ubuntu groups: $ tail -n2 /etc/security/group.conf # add LDAP users to these default groups, but don't give them admin rights. "*;*;*;Al-2400;audio,video,cdrom,plugdev,fuse" These additional group IDs are assigned correctly: $ id uid=6007(myusername) gid=6000(ldapgroup) groups=6000(ldapgroup),24(cdrom),29(audio),44(video),46(plugdev),104(fuse) Based on these additional groups, I'm trying to give certain user groups the necessary permissions to execute program, using policykit-1. Unfortunately, policykit does seem to only 'see' / 'be aware' of the primary group that the user belongs to (and not those additional groups that are assigend via /etc/security/group.conf). This works (users can start the program): [AllowUsertoDoSomething] Identity=unix-group:ldapgroup This doesn't work (users are asked to provide the administrator password): [AllowUsertoDoSomething] Identity=unix-group:plugdev I suspect that this has something to do with the fact that 'id' does return conflicting information about groups: # call id without username, returns all groups, including the ones defined in /etc/security/group.conf $ id uid=6007(myusername) gid=6000(ldapgroup) groups=6000(ldapgroup),24(cdrom),29(audio),44(video),46(plugdev),104(fuse) # call id with username, only ldap groups are returned, the ones defined in /etc/security/group.conf are missing. $ id myusername uid=6007(myusername) gid=6000(ldapgroup) groups=6000(ldapgroup) My suspicion is that policykit-1 is calling "id user" (or a similar command) and "sees" only the main ldap groups. I did not expect this behavior, because /etc/pam.d/polkit-1 does include /etc/pam.d/common-auth (which includes the "auth optional pam_group.so" line) This is Ubuntu 12.04.3 with all latest updates. When you double click (or right click and choose "Open") a file that has a text MIME type, nautilus assumes it is a script and offers to run it (or run in a terminal or display it), regardless of what application is assigned to actually open the file. Use case: an SRT file is stored on a USB memory stick that comes formatted as FAT out of the factory. The user has Gnome Subtitles set as the default application for SRT files (which are a type of text file). The user plugs the USB memory stick into the computer and double clicks the SRT file and expect Gnome Subtitles to open the file. Instead they get a "Run or Display" dialog. In such a case, even the "Open With" list does not include the needed application - if the user wants to open their SRT file they must right click the file, choose Open With->Other Application, search for Gnome Subtitles and select it. Of course Nautilus does not actually "remember" this setting and the user has to do this again for the next file. Sadly Mir is the opposite now: Mir only supports PRIME but not flink names. Internally some exceptions are being thrown in Mir at present, but we seem to catch and silence them all.
