[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1653482] [NEW] Flash player crashes sporadically in Konqueror

2017-01-01 Thread Pierre Abbat
Public bug reported:

I was browsing forum.419eater.com and scamwarners.com/forum together,
which I do often. It crashes without warning when I'm just looking at a
page or scrolling. It's crashed several times in two hours, which it did
not do before today. The last time I updated packages was December 23.
The crash handler could not get a backtrace, so I ran konqueror in gdb
and got the following:

(gdb) run forum.419eater.com
Starting program: /usr/bin/konqueror forum.419eater.com

  Cannot change evince key bindings

Status in evince package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Hi,

I've tried the process to "Create [my] own custom shortcuts" described here:
  https://help.gnome.org/users/evince/stable/shortcuts.html.en
It does not work: evince does nothing when I hover the pointer over the menu
item I want to change and click any key (BTW the shortcut text remains
greyed-out, not sure if it's normal...).

I've also found on some other pages that I must use 'dconf-editor'
instead of 'gconf-editor', but it does not work either.

FYI, I'm using, Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, but with AwsomeWM, and almost all
  gnome packages installed

  Cheers

  GM

  imon_knob no input in 9.10

Status in lirc package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: lirc

Support for Soundgraph Imon knob is broken in Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. Irexec and
irw do not get any input from the device, though /dev/lirc0 receives the input
(verified with cat /dev/lirc0). Also irrecord and mode2 both get input.
Retested on fresh install of 9.04 to verify same steps are being taken to set
up lirc, but they do not work in 9.10. Also tested with lircd.conf copied from
working setup on 9.04, no good.

Synaptic -> install lirc. Select imon_knob. Restart lirc daemon. Launch
irw, can verify input from remote on 9.04, exact same steps yield no irw input
on 9.10.

Title:
Files in the root of a folder on another partition symlinked to user's
home cannot be moved to trash because of a patch in this package

Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in glib2.0 source package in Xenial:
  Confirmed
Status in glib2.0 source package in Yakkety:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [ Description ]

Can't trash files if the directory they are in is a symlink to another
  device

  [ QA ]

  Steps:
  1. Install system and partition disk into root and data partitions
  2. create ~/Data folder, and mount data partition on it
  3. create symlinks for ~/whatever/ to ~/Data/something/
  4. delete files directly inside ~/whatever/

  What happen:
Then Nautilus says: "File can't be put in the trash. Do you want to delete it
immediately?".

  What should happen:
  The files moved into Trash.

  [ Regression potential ]

The proposed fix uses g_stat instead of g_stat to follow symlinks, so
we know where to place the trash (you can't rename() across
filesystems). If that is wrong, then it could regress trashing other
  kinds of files.

  [ Original ]

  I'm on Ubuntu 16.10 64-bit with libglib2.0-0 version 2.50.0-1.

I've reported this bug (or marked as "it affects me") in a couple of
other places before I've finally discovered that this is the package
that's causing this problem, which unfortunately has been around for a
  couple of years now.

This bug has been reported upstream as well, but it's just taking very
very long to arrive at a decision and take action it seems.

  Apparently one of the patches
  (https://sources.debian.net/patches/glib2.0/2.50.1-1/0001-Fix-
  trashing-on-overlayfs.patch/) which is here

to the original package which is here

is the root cause of this annoying problem.

As I prefer keeping one patition for the root filesystem (/), one
partition for user settings (/home) and one partition for user data
(Documents, Downloads, Drive, Music, Pictures, Public, Videos) which
are simply symlinked to my home folder for ease of use, I cannot move
any file to the trash in the root of these folders when I access them
from my home folder or nautilus sidebar.

This problem doesn't affect folders at all, nor any other files in
  subfolders, etc.

So I was wondering if Ubuntu devs can leave out that particular patch
when building this package for Ubuntu - if it doesn't cause more harm,
  which I doubt.

Otherwise, I would appreciate if I could learn how to do it myself:
how can I (as an end-user) compile the contents of
"glib2.0_2.50.0.orig.tar.xz" with all the patches, etc. in
  "glib2.0_2.50.0-1.debian.tar.xz" except "0001-Fix-trashing-on-
  overlayfs.patch"?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1270189] Re: Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi connection

2017-01-01 Thread Steve Arnold
My problem sounds like comment #20 exactly: with no SIM card (yet) and
a fresh mako image of stable/ubuntu-developer I have no DNS at all after
connecting to WIFI. Manual fudging of resolv.conf makes things work
again. I'll install the log viewer next...

Title:
Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi
  connection

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Confirmed
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu RTM:

Bug description:
On my Nexus 4, build 121 with TMobile, when I am on wifi, I correctly
get a 192.168 ip and DNS entries for this network (on wlan0) -- fine.
When I am in range of cellular data, I get an ip address from TMobile
and am given DNS entries that aren't on the same network as the
TMobile ip address (on rmnet_usb0). The problem is, the DNS entries
from TMobile are preferred over the ones from the wifi network such
that while wlan0 is correctly setup as the default route, DNS queries
are being made to the TMobile DNS servers over wlan0 because there are
no explicit routes to these servers. This is problematic because the
remote DNS server may not respond to queries coming from out of
network or site policy may disallow the use of foreign DNS servers--
both of which result in slow (or possibly failing) DNS queries since
the cellular DNS is checked first. Also, where it did work, these
queries could incur charges when the user is intending to use only
wifi. In the case of (at least) TMobile, this could be a security
concern because the well-known TMobile DNS servers are on the private
'10.' network, which opens the possibility for a rogue DNS server to
be on the private wifi network with this ip address.

This could be fixed in (at least) four ways:
   1) when on wifi, don't merge the DNS servers on cellular networks at all
which forces the device to use the ones available on the site (wlan0). This is
guaranteed to not incur changes
   2) when on wifi, merge the DNS server from the cellular network, but add
them after the ones on the wifi network. This will try the site's DNS first and
only if they fail, fallback to the cellular DNS. This may incur charges under
certain circumstances
   3) add an explicit route to the cellular DNS servers through rmnet_usb0.
This will bypass the site DNS with all queries going through cellular DNS. This
will incur charges and would make the device unable to resolve site-local names.
   4) same as '2', but also add explicit routes for the cellular name servers.
This should only incur charges if wifi DNS fails

I think '3' is out. '2' and '4' seems most intuitive (with '4' perhaps
most correct). '1' seems also ok.

Title:
Three finger tap not working for "ELAN1010:00 04F3:3012 Touchpad"

Status in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
three-finger taps are not working with my touchpad. One-finger, two-
finger, three-finger, four-finger, and five-finger taps are detected
by evtest, but only single and double finger taps are detected by xev.
All other touchpad features are working, including two-finger vertical
scrolling, two-finger horizontal scrolling, tap and drag, clicking on
the left and right virtual buttons on the bottom of the touchpad.

My end goal is to use two-finger tap for paste (i.e. middle click) and
three-finger for right-click, but the three-finger tap is not
  detected.

If it matters, a two-finger tap still brings up the right-click menu
  after running "synclient TapButton2=2".

  I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS x86_64 on a Dell Inspiron 7559. logs
from xev and evtest are attached.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568429] Re: 1002:68b8 Radeon won't work with KMS enabled

2017-01-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

After upgrading to Xenial today and ensuring the xorg radeon driver was
enabled, when booting both monitor lose signal input and the keyboard
  becomes unresponsive.

  My hardware:
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] Juniper XT [Radeon HD 5770] [1002:68b8] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
- Subsystem: XFX Pine Group Inc. Juniper XT [Radeon HD 5770] [1682:2990]
+  Subsystem: XFX Pine Group Inc. Juniper XT [Radeon HD 5770] [1682:2990]

WORKAROUND: Use one of the following kernel parameters:
  nomodeset
  radeon.modeset=0

- The machine will boot but the radeon driver will not load. Attempting to
- load radeon driver with `sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1` after booting
- with modesetting off results in the same fail state explained above.
+ The machine will boot but the radeon driver will not load. Attempting to load
radeon driver with:
+ sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1
+
+ after booting with modesetting off results in the same fail state
+ explained above.
+
+ WORKAROUND:
+ 1. Computer in OFF state, press power.
+ 2. At boot select screen, press `e` and edit kernel line by appending:
+ modprobe.blacklist=radeon
+ 3. Press `F10` to boot.
+ 4. At login screen, click gear icon in upper right and select `Suspend`.
+ 5. After computer is in suspended state, press any key to awaken.
+ 6. The display does not "reawaken" and still appears off.
+ 7. From another computer, ssh into the problem computer.
+ 8. Execute:
+ sudo service lightdm stop
+ sudo modprobe radeon
+ sudo service lightdm start

2017-01-01 Thread Luigi R.
Same for me on Ubuntu 16.0.1. I get a black screen by using DRI_PRIME=1
glxgears but the frame is highen the Intel card.

Is it normal that xrandr --listproviders returns 2 providers for the
AMD/ATI card?

Title:
DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw

Status in X.Org X server:
  New
Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu 15.04 and Xorg version 1:7.7+7ubuntu2

  Step to reproduce:
start "DRI_PRIME=1 steam" (or any other complex 3D program like minecraft)

  What is expected:
the program should show it's window(s), those should have the same content as
if started without "DRI_PRIME".

  What actually happens:
most times the program just shows a "freezed" version of the background the
window appeared on.

  Additional Informations:
I have the newest BIOS version.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1653324] Re: No wireless networks visible on resume from suspend. Erroneous Wired connection icon in nm-applet

2017-01-01 Thread maxicastro
This bug affects me and happens every time I resume from suspend on my
Asus K53E with Ubuntu 16.04.

Each time I display the indicator it shows a false wired connection, and
I have to do service network-manager restart. It's really annoying.

Title:
No wireless networks visible on resume from suspend. Erroneous Wired
  connection icon in nm-applet

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
As others have reported this I just woke my Thinkpad 450 to find no
network. I resolved this by manually reconnecting with "nmcli c up id
" where was taken from the output of
"nmcli c" on the same machine.

  Steps to reproduce:-

This is an intermittent issue which for me happens once in a while,
but not super often to be annoying. For others it appears to happen
often. I suspend my laptop multiple times daily and don't see this
more than once per couple of weeks, or sometimes once a month.

  * Use laptop in one location on wifi
  * Suspend (shut lid) laptop
  * Resume (open lid) in same location (so same wifi networks nearby)

  Expected behaviour:-

  * Network come back up

  Actual behaviour:-

  * No network connectivity
  * nm-applet icon shows the two arrows as if a wired connection is made
  * No or few wireless erroneous wireless networks shown nearby

  * Workaround 1 (reconnect from command line)

  nmcli c

(lists wireless networks, look for yours in the "NAME" column, use it
  in command below)

  nmcli c up id NAME

  * Workaround 2 (restart entire network stack)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1653437] [NEW] Xubuntu's "Software" does not run!

2017-01-01 Thread Arash Partee
Public bug reported:

Hello,
When for the first time I clicked on a Xubuntu's application named "Software",
it encountered an error and was unable to start.
I used Software Updater to update "Software". It was updated successfully.
(version: 3.20.1+git20161013.0.d77d6cf-0ubuntu2~xenial1) I restarted. When I
clicked on Software, the waiting sign began to turn but again Software did not
start.

** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1310104] Re: No way to trigger fingerprint authentication on lock screen

2017-01-01 Thread grafviktor
Also confirming that 16.04.1 has the same issue. It's actually quite
annoying in my case, because usually I never turn off my laptop, but
just closing it's lid :-/

Title:
No way to trigger fingerprint authentication on lock screen

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
With fprintd/libpam_fprintd installed, the user can in all places
authenticate via the fingerprint reader. (Command line, login screen, light
locker screen). However, light locker does not interact well with fingerprint
authentication:
Immediately after locking the session, the user can unlock via fingerprint.
But once the fingerprint authentication times out, light locker waits for a
password to be typed, and the user cannot re-initiate fingerprint
authentication. The usual way of pressing ESC does not have effect. There even
is a state, where light locker does not accept fingerprint nor password
authentication -- the user is left without any possibility to unlock the
screen. This is not acceptable.
Please correct light locker's behavior with respect to libpam-fprintd
authentication.

Title:
[Xenial] va-driver-all should depend on mesa-va-drivers, otherwise,
Totem can't play videos if gstreamer1.0-vaapi is installed on Gallium
  graphics

Status in libva package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  What is the problem:
Totem can't play videos if gstreamer1.0-vaapi is installed on Gallium
graphics in Xenial because mesa-va-drivers is not installed as a dependency of
va-driver-all.

Here is the dependency chain in Xenial:
  gstreamer1.0-vaapi Depends on libva1
  libva1 Recommends va-driver-all
  va-driver-all Depends on i965-va-driver vdpau-va-driver (no mesa-va-drivers!)

Here is the terminal output of Totem (with gstreamer1.0-vaapi installed and
no mesa-va-drivers):
  :~$ totem
Stream with high frequencies VQ coding
  libva info: VA-API version 0.39.0
  libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/radeonsi_drv_video.so
  libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1

libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/gallium_drv_video.so
  libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1
  libva info: VA-API version 0.39.0
  libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0

When mesa-va-drivers is installed, Totem plays videos just fine.

This is fixed in version 1.7.0-2 in Debian and Yakkety.
  libva (1.7.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium

* debian/control:
  - Add mesa-va-drivers as alternative to Depends of va-driver-all.
  - Bump Standards-Versions.
