[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1653482] [NEW] Flash player crashes sporadically in Konqueror
Public bug reported: I was browsing forum.419eater.com and scamwarners.com/forum together, which I do often. It crashes without warning when I'm just looking at a page or scrolling. It's crashed several times in two hours, which it did not do before today. The last time I updated packages was December 23. The crash handler could not get a backtrace, so I ran konqueror in gdb and got the following: (gdb) run forum.419eater.com Starting program: /usr/bin/konqueror forum.419eater.com [Depuración de hilo usando libthread_db enabled] Using host libthread_db library "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libthread_db.so.1". [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1638245] Re: Files in the root of a folder on another partition symlinked to user's home cannot be moved to trash because of a patch in this package
Is it safe to use the patched glib version from Ian ppa? I'm using Xenial and I really need this patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1638245 Title: Files in the root of a folder on another partition symlinked to user's home cannot be moved to trash because of a patch in this package Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in glib2.0 source package in Xenial: Confirmed Status in glib2.0 source package in Yakkety: Fix Committed Bug description: [ Description ] Can't trash files if the directory they are in is a symlink to another device [ QA ] Steps: 1. Install system and partition disk into root and data partitions 2. create ~/Data folder, and mount data partition on it 3. create symlinks for ~/whatever/ to ~/Data/something/ 4. delete files directly inside ~/whatever/ What happen: Then Nautilus says: "File can't be put in the trash. Do you want to delete it immediately?". What should happen: The files moved into Trash. [ Regression potential ] The proposed fix uses g_stat instead of g_stat to follow symlinks, so we know where to place the trash (you can't rename() across filesystems). If that is wrong, then it could regress trashing other kinds of files. [ Original ] I'm on Ubuntu 16.10 64-bit with libglib2.0-0 version 2.50.0-1. I've reported this bug (or marked as "it affects me") in a couple of other places before I've finally discovered that this is the package that's causing this problem, which unfortunately has been around for a couple of years now. This bug has been reported upstream as well, but it's just taking very very long to arrive at a decision and take action it seems. Apparently one of the patches (https://sources.debian.net/patches/glib2.0/2.50.1-1/0001-Fix- trashing-on-overlayfs.patch/) which is here (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/glib2.0_2.50.0-1.debian.tar.xz) to the original package which is here (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/glib2.0_2.50.0.orig.tar.xz) is the root cause of this annoying problem. As I prefer keeping one patition for the root filesystem (/), one partition for user settings (/home) and one partition for user data (Documents, Downloads, Drive, Music, Pictures, Public, Videos) which are simply symlinked to my home folder for ease of use, I cannot move any file to the trash in the root of these folders when I access them from my home folder or nautilus sidebar. This problem doesn't affect folders at all, nor any other files in subfolders, etc. So I was wondering if Ubuntu devs can leave out that particular patch when building this package for Ubuntu - if it doesn't cause more harm, which I doubt. Otherwise, I would appreciate if I could learn how to do it myself: how can I (as an end-user) compile the contents of "glib2.0_2.50.0.orig.tar.xz" with all the patches, etc. in "glib2.0_2.50.0-1.debian.tar.xz" except "0001-Fix-trashing-on- overlayfs.patch"? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1270189] Re: Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi connection
My problem sounds like comment #20 exactly: with no SIM card (yet) and a fresh mako image of stable/ubuntu-developer I have no DNS at all after connecting to WIFI. Manual fudging of resolv.conf makes things work again. I'll install the log viewer next... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1270189 Title: Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi connection Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu RTM: New Bug description: On my Nexus 4, build 121 with TMobile, when I am on wifi, I correctly get a 192.168 ip and DNS entries for this network (on wlan0) -- fine. When I am in range of cellular data, I get an ip address from TMobile and am given DNS entries that aren't on the same network as the TMobile ip address (on rmnet_usb0). The problem is, the DNS entries from TMobile are preferred over the ones from the wifi network such that while wlan0 is correctly setup as the default route, DNS queries are being made to the TMobile DNS servers over wlan0 because there are no explicit routes to these servers. This is problematic because the remote DNS server may not respond to queries coming from out of network or site policy may disallow the use of foreign DNS servers-- both of which result in slow (or possibly failing) DNS queries since the cellular DNS is checked first. Also, where it did work, these queries could incur charges when the user is intending to use only wifi. In the case of (at least) TMobile, this could be a security concern because the well-known TMobile DNS servers are on the private '10.' network, which opens the possibility for a rogue DNS server to be on the private wifi network with this ip address. This could be fixed in (at least) four ways: 1) when on wifi, don't merge the DNS servers on cellular networks at all which forces the device to use the ones available on the site (wlan0). This is guaranteed to not incur changes 2) when on wifi, merge the DNS server from the cellular network, but add them after the ones on the wifi network. This will try the site's DNS first and only if they fail, fallback to the cellular DNS. This may incur charges under certain circumstances 3) add an explicit route to the cellular DNS servers through rmnet_usb0. This will bypass the site DNS with all queries going through cellular DNS. This will incur charges and would make the device unable to resolve site-local names. 4) same as '2', but also add explicit routes for the cellular name servers. This should only incur charges if wifi DNS fails I think '3' is out. '2' and '4' seems most intuitive (with '4' perhaps most correct). '1' seems also ok. # netstat -rn Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 0.0.0.0 192.168.x.1 0.0.0.0 UG0 0 0 wlan0 100.152.35.128 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.252 U 0 0 0 rmnet_usb0 192.168.x.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 wlan0 Jan 17 07:36:38 ubuntu-phablet NetworkManager[1130]: Auto-activating connection '/310260575949457/context1'. Also confirming that 16.04.1 has the same issue. (Command line, login screen, light locker screen). However, light locker does not interact well with fingerprint authentication: Immediately after locking the session, the user can unlock via fingerprint. But once the fingerprint authentication times out, light locker waits for a password to be typed, and the user cannot re-initiate fingerprint authentication. The usual way of pressing ESC does not have effect.
