[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1658408] [NEW] XInput property "Device Accel Constant Deceleration" applied inconsistently, if at all

2017-01-21 Thread Ben A
Public bug reported:

Changing this value will more often than not have zero effect on the
cursor's behavior. Under Gnome, if I disable and re-enable the device
afterwards it will usually take effect, but running xset m will revert
it to its original behavior; under OpenBox, nothing I've tried has
worked. In all cases, xinput list-props reflects the value that was
attempted to be set; it simply isn't applied.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1658407] [NEW] "Ubuntu modification" extension default package disables Multiprocess in Firefox

2017-01-21 Thread Jatan
Public bug reported:

Firefox has started making the default state to Multiprocess starting
with Firefox 48. Right now, at least half the Firefox users have
Multiprocess enabled by default and the performance and stability
benefits are quite substantial. More about Multiprocess here -
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/multiprocess

The Ubufox extension that comes installed by default in Ubuntu's Firefox
disables Multiprocess, due it not being compatible with it (check
attachment). This leads to all Ubuntu users not benefiting from the
performance benefits of Firefox multiprocess architecture and also the
ever increasing benefits as they keep improving it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1591547] Re: Merge pcsc-lite 1.8.20-1 (main) from Debian testing (main)

2017-01-21 Thread variona
A fix that works for me is:
install missing dependencies libudev-dev,libusb-1.0.0-dev
install from source pcsc-lite 1.8.20
install from source ccid 1.4.22

then link /usr/sbin/pcscd to /usr/local/sbin/pcscd so that sysctl starts the
newly installed version
`
cd usr/sbin
ln -sf /usr/local/sbin/pcscd
`
I had to do this because VMWare-Workstation would die because of:

  Explanation of the Ubuntu delta:
    * Merge new upstream release from Debian Unstable (LP: #1483750).
  - debian/rules: Move runtime libraries to /lib, for the benefit of
    wpasupplicant. (See Debian #531592)

Bug description:
  [Test Case]
The bug has no clear generic test case, but the proposed fix eliminates
possibilities for the problem to happen.

  [Regression Potential]
Launchers keeping track of applications could be broken.

  Original description:

  Binary package hint: unity

The problem occurred on the Unity Launcher where you can't know for
sure if the application is running or if it is just a shortcut.

Since some minutes ago, Unity lost track of the running instance of my
web browser (Chromium, I am using it right now). Every time I click on
Chromium's icon I get a new instance instead of the running one. If I
minimize any Chromium windows, the only way to reach them back is
through Alt + Tab, since clicking the icon will give me a new window,
as if it were not running.

I would expect that clicking on the icon of the running application,
it would restore the existing window instead of creating a new one,
like what is happening right now with the other program I am using.

I don't know what made Unity lose track of Chromium, and I don't know
  how to reproduce the problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1643467] Re: Firefox 50 blocks Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 LTS's version of libavcodec

I am using ubuntu 12.04. After the update of firefox I am getting the
error message -- ""libavcodec may be vulnerable or is not supported, and

Any solutions ?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1295526] Re: "disable touchpad while typing" doesn't work

2017-01-21 Thread Snowflake
Confirmed this is still a problem on a recent install of Ubuntu 16.10 on
an HP Spectre X360 13" with touchscreen.

Syndaemon is running in the background, but it's not working. The
trackpad on the Spectre is physically much wider than it needs to be and
due to the left-offset to the keyboard your right thumb-palm almost
requires it as a rest for typing on the laptop is an exercise in keeping
the mouse pointer in the same window as your text, and positioned after
the end of what you're typing... So any random press doesn't result in a
cursor move.

I found if I killed the stock syndaemon, and re-started it with a
timeout of 2.0, performance was greatly improved. But I haven't been
successful in making that setting stick through a reboot.

"disable touchpad while typing" doesn't work

Status in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
"Disable touchpad while typing" checkbox in System Settings does not
work on my Asus F5N laptop. The button to disable touchpad does not
work as well. As a workaround I use "syndaemon -i 1 -K -d" command as
  per Ubuntu help page
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad/ but it does not
fix the issue with the said chechbox and hardware button. I guess it
still needs to access shared memory using SHMconfig option in
xorg.conf in which case it is the same bug that has been around for 3
  years starting from Ubuntu 11.10

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1572331] Re: GtkPlug scaled to half the expected size on HiDPI screens + zesty debdiff

2017-01-21 Thread marmuta
The bug has reappeared, I see it on each login again.
The patch was added in 3.22.5-1ubuntu2, but then apparently removed again in
3.22.6-1ubuntu1. No mention in the changelog. Have there been regressions?

** Changed in: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Released => Confirmed

GtkPlug scaled to half the expected size on HiDPI screens + zesty

Status in GTK+:

Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

Marmuta wrote a patch for this issue, that I applied to the gtk+3.0
package shipping currently in the development version of Ubuntu zesty.
You will find the corresponding debdiff attached to this bug thread.

Marmuta performed tests with org.gnome.desktop.interface scaling-
factor = 2 , where few issues are left for Onboard on hidpi screens,
that are not related to gtk, but rather to unity-greeter or gnome-
screensaver. He did not notice any issue with scaling-factor = 1.

Can a sponsor please review the debdiff?

  Thanks in advance.

  Original description:

See attached screen shot. Blue is a GtkPlug, black is a GtkSocket.
  Source code below.

What I expect to happen is that the GtkPlug has the same size as the
GtkSocket.
What actually happens is that GtkPlug only covers a quarter of the area of
the GtkSocket.

Impact: Onboard on HiDPI displays is near unusable at login and lock
screen, aka unity-greeter and gnome-screensaver. Original bug report
  here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1562734.

  Steps to reproduce:
  - build plug and socket samples from below
  - set display scaling factor to 2
System Settings -> Display -> Scale for menu and title bars = 2
  - run ./socket $(head -1 <(./plug))
-> blue GtkPlug is too small, it should cover all the black

  - resize the window
-> at smaller sizes the scaling suddenly corrects itself, at larger ones it's
wrong again

Bug description:
  [SRU justification]
Previous releases were compatible with third-party printer drivers provided
in LSB package format (and also as .deb packages depending on the lsb package).
As of 16.04, because the LSB specifies ABIs for various libraries that are no
longer supported in Ubuntu as obsolete, the packages for the lsb modules have
been dropped in both Debian and Ubuntu. This includes dropping of lsb-core,
which is the component which provides the LSB-mandated ELF loader path -
without which no lsb executable will work.

This SRU will restore the bare minimum of LSB compatibility necessary
to support known third-party LSB printer driver packages on Ubuntu
  16.04.

  [Regression potential]
The reintroduced 'lsb' binary package is known to not fully satisfy the
requirements for a complete LSB-compliant system. This is a regression vs.
Ubuntu 14.04; so anyone using LSB packages on Ubuntu 14.04 who upgrades to
Ubuntu 16.04 may have the upgrade succeed without any warning from the package
manager.

As there are very few lsb packages in use in the wild, this is
considered an acceptable regression, especially as this will land
before the first 16.04 point release.

  [Test case]
  1. Download the epsion 201106w printer driver package from
http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/op/stable/debian/dists/lsb3.2/main/binary-amd64/epson-inkjet-printer-201106w_1.0.1-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
  2. Install the package and confirm that its dependencies are not satisfiable.
  3. Enable xenial-proposed.
  4. Install the package again and confirm that the dependencies are satisfied.
  5. Verify that
/opt/epson-inkjet-printer-201106w/cups/lib/filter/epson_inkjet_printer_filter
can be run without errors about missing lsb ld.so or missing libraries.

Starting with Xenial, lsb compatibility packages were dropped (besides
  lsb-release and lsb-base):

  lsb (9.20150826) unstable; urgency=low

    * Drop all the LSB compatibility packages besides lsb-release and lsb-base
  - Drop packages-availability checking in lsb-release
  - Truncate README.Debian to a minimum
  - Document this in lsb-base.NEWS.Debian
    * Change the versioning number to avoid any ambiguity; use joeyh's
version.date, with version being Debian next stable's

   -- Didier Raboud Wed, 26 Aug 2015 12:00:00 +0200

The problem is that downloadable printer drivers (like the ones from
Openprinting, but also from other available providers) that are
suggested when installing a printer on Ubuntu depends on lsb, which is
  not available anymore:

  epson-inkjet-printer-201106w:
Dépend: lsb (>=3.2) but it is not installable

This triggers a regression where it is not possible to setup a printer
this way (downloading a driver where no local driver is available)
  anymore.

  I see two possible solutions:

  - Add a proper replaces field to one of the remaining lsb-* packages,
to hopefully fix missing lsb package (maybe it would be useful to also
replace other compability packages that are not built anymore).

  - Re-introduce LSB compatibility packages, but that might be an
  overkill.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1643467] Re: Firefox 50 blocks Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 LTS's version of libavcodec

2017-01-21 Thread Marc Deslauriers
For this to be resolved in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, an appropriate fix needs to
be written for libav 0.8. Updating to a newer libav isn't an option as
the API has changed and that would break compatibility with all the
software using libav in the archive. Once a fix has been written,
Mozilla would then need to unblock libav in Firefox.

This is unlikely to happen before 12.04.5 LTS reaches end of life in a
few weeks.

I recommend updating to a newer Ubuntu release, such as 14.04 LTS, or
preferably 16.04 LTS now if this is an important issue rather than
waiting until the end of life of 12.04 LTS in a few weeks.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1569876] Re: Mouse trails disappear only on window refresh

2017-01-21 Thread Edward Gibbs
I am having a nearly identical problem with my P50 and an ASUS external
monitor.

In my case the trails last for a second or two then go away until I move
the mouse again. I have the same distorted cursor problem.

I've tried connecting with DP and HDMI, using proprietary or community
drivers, purging nvidia drivers and reloading, etc. By accident I have
discovered that opening the System Settings and going to the Display
settings (just going to them, not doing anything there) fixes it for as
long as the Display settings are open. As soon as I close Display
settings it comes right back.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 997370] Re: Totem does not use the va-api gstreamer backend

2017-01-21 Thread petit-prince
I can confirm Davide's comment. This is still not working with Nvidia binary
drivers using vaapi and vdpau, while mplayer works flawlessly using vdpau
hardware acceleration.
gst-launch-1.0 does work indeed.
How do we proceed? What further information is required to debug this issue?

furthermore acceleration does not work in totem - cpu usage is as high as
with software rendering.

mplayer-vaapi works perfectly on the same system.

  gst-launch-0.10 -v filesrc location=~/test.mkv ! matroskademux ! vaapidecode
! vaapisink
makes it possible to use vaapi via commandline

i did not find a way to use vaapi for mpeg4 part 2 video streams.

and i wasnt able to find proper values for gstreamer-properties that
fix thumbnails and acceleration in totem.

id like to share debug information. just tell me what you need.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 575159] Re: Rhythmbox eats a HUGE amount of memory on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (even if no music is running)

2017-01-21 Thread Starbeamrainbowlabs
I've just started to experience this issue. Tried uninstalling, purging,
reinstalling, no luck.

I didn't have it before, but then one day it started doing it and now I
can't use it anymore :-(

Starting the program, it opens up slowly and consumes a HUGE amount of RAM (

I think you can also set this property in the configuration file
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-libinput.conf:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2017-01-21 Thread zanonmark
Thanks Juan, your fix seems to work actually!

I confirm the pointer speed is very high, but a "xinput -set-prop 11 281
-0.5" command solved the issue (281 stands for "libinput Accel Speed"
and 11 is the proper device i.e. "DLLC6B2:00 06CB:75BF Touchpad").

Thanks,
MZ

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1656832] Re: orca key, e. g. insert + space, is not responding

2017-01-21 Thread leder
Hurray, I saw Orca Settings once! But insert+space does not react
anymore. Additionally keyboard shortcuts for switching orca on/off is
not responding immediately, when screen is read.

Where does orca log to? I did not see logs in var/log...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1643467] Re: Firefox 50 blocks Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 LTS's version of libavcodec

2017-01-21 Thread Norbert
Bug is not fixed in Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS Precise Pangolin.
Can't use twitter.com, facebook.com, vk.com and other sites.

Still need official fix from Canonical and/or Mozilla.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1448457] Re: zte-balde not in adb device list

2017-01-21 Thread Josua Dietze
As you noticed, there is already a usb_modeswitch configuration for the USB ID
19d2:0083.
However, the scope of its application is narrowed to devices which have the
string "WCDMA" in their product description. This applies to ZTE modem sticks.

Now, your phone's product description is "ZTE HSUSB Device". That's why
usb_modeswitch will not do anything - the ID does not fully match.

The principal issue here is that phones may have selected the storage
mode intentionally. It's not usb_modeswitch's business to interfere.
Actually, there was a bug report regarding this: see bug #894448.
